  2. It doesn’t appear that this works with the HogII since the radio is a “Call Menu” command and not PTT or is there some workaround?

  6. Yeah if they “went pro” they’d have to turn a profit. But such things are off topic and sorta irrelevant. Noted but the game in question is essentially free, at little cost compared to a “for profit” game. Not very relevant for comparison and against the rules to keep mentioning.
  7. I see black squares covering the aircraft too but in my case, on a monitor, I have the option to turn them off. That’s not possible in VR. I’m sure this isn’t the final goal for these things but it sure looks awful right now.

  10. Modders don’t have budgets, that’s why comparing games isn’t relevant. Especially free games.
  11. Oh sure SRS is realistic it’s just funny that nobody seems to have anything to say. And yeah Discord is what it is but people actually communicate on it. Plus for training and such you can share screens and so on. The bottom line is Discord is the only times I’ve ever experienced actually using comms.

  13. I get that people have difficulty with this but that's what labels are for (I’m old enough to wear bifocals too) How are spotting dots any different? Simply turning this off in multiplayer puts you at a disadvantage and VR players cannot turn them off. Again it's two identical features, one that's a game aid mission setting and another that's not. This doesn't make sense. And an accessibility feature for those who need visual help quickly becomes an exploit for those that don’t.
  14. I can’t understand a reason for the spotting dot debacle. Why does the game need two dot systems which to me appear identical in the game? Dot Labels are widely understood to be a Game Aid (an unrealistic but helpful graphic), but Spotting Dots are purported to be some sort of realistic visibility system. Yet they’re exactly the same thing. So which is it? Why are Dot Labels controlled as a mission/server option but Spotting Dots are not? And why are Spotting Dots forced on for VR players but not for monitors? It’s not great playing online knowing you appear to some other players like a giant brick. The whole situation doesn’t make sense. I get it that ED needs to sell the game to players who may not have good eyesight but that’s what labels are for. And many players just have unrealistic expectations from other games about how easy distant aircraft would be to see, particularly it seems from one that scales up the targets by 2-3x. That problem will never end in these CFS games.

  17. No it only works for MP. But still very neat. I would settle for DCS working at all in MP. Why does this not work so many instances? It’s either a combo of map and or aircraft but it’s hit and miss. The only real purpose is to keep the players from running into each other but they aren’t paying attention anyways.
  18. It’s for the other WWII sim but yeah it’s just done via SRS, no other mods or plug-ins needed. Not sure what else it uses on the server side but all I have installed is SRS. It does all the basic ATC stuff plus uses your call sign, does GCI and assigns missions, etc. even has “authentic” accents for Axis or Allies. It’s quite remarkable.
  19. Yes I play it online quite a lot. I think it’s odd so many people are “on” SRS but basically have nothing to say. They seem to treat it like a real radio with brevity and so on. Discord is more encouraging of chit chat. I’ve seen servers in these games change from one to the other and the comms just dry up. It’s odd. None of the more populated server I see use the DCS VOIP. SRS can do some really cool stuff though, I’ve seen it used for voice recognition driven ATC and command menus and the like. So back to the topic here it looks like it’s totally possible to make SRS do ATC even have it respond to voice commands.
  20. Does the game AI actually follow this? Bravo if it does. Yes, but I’ve never seen this used nor honestly is SRS. Yes people are on it but they’re basically silent. SRS is useful for automated GCI but I hardly see people ever using it for voice comms. The only times I end up actually chit chatting online it’s when using Discord. Well yeah, the current ATC always says ‘runway occupied” regardless of any traffic. At least it does online.
  21. It’s odd to realize, DCS simulates radios. What do you actually do with these in the sim? Not much really. The chief gameplay modes as I see it are DLC campaigns and multiplayer, neither of these use the radios or menu fully. DLC campaigns usually replace the comms tree with F10 options although usually require you to at least tune the frequency. MP afaik doesn’t really use radios at all. SRS uses these but the players don’t, they’re mostly silent. As far as I can tell the airbase ATC doesn’t even appear to function online. And operating at an airfield the carrier while ignoring the ATC carries no risk, contacting the boat makes the lights come on but that’s all. Like in Case III if you just ignored the approach time slot I don’t think that increases your risk of a collision etc. And the A-10 I think is the only module that gives you the ability to give detailed instructions to your flight and wingmen, I don’t think the Apache flight pays any attention to this at all. Huh? “Not Planned”
  22. I’m not against the idea, they already said this is planned. But I wouldn’t expect something like Beyond ATC. And constantly bringing up other games gets tiresome and frankly precludes the possibility of better solutions.
  23. I would be happy if ATC just did the following: - Encourage aircraft not to crash into one another. - Give you something fun to do with your radio. - Sounds reasonably authentic.
  24. I know this has been asked for or assumed before but the track feature is much more complicated than Tacview. Although having all that functionality like being able to scroll back and forwards and such would be great. A better replay feature would be an awesome add for the game. I can’t fathom how content creators do what they do with the current system
  25. Although this seems like a great idea and I know they’re working on it I can’t see the genuine need for this in DCS. Other than just added ambiance. Even the Supercarrier ATC I don’t believe actually separates and de-conflicts the aircraft, it’s just radio messages. The most you could ask for in DCS I think would be something akin to this which actually controls the aircraft and that the AI actually pay attention to and that has reasonably suitable languages or voiceovers. But a full on simulation of real world ATC just seems impossible and unnecessary. If you ask me such things are the realm of civy sims not make stuff go boom games. The DLC campaigns already seem to have nice authentic ATC and voiceovers which is where this likely belongs. The majority of DCS players can’t or don’t even cold start up their aircraft and if MP is any indication, pay any attention to ATC as it is.
