  1. I can remember servers doing this when the only aircraft in the game were the Blackshark and A-10. It seems too complicated now with so many aircraft and targets, airbases etc. The better servers have apps and guides and such so you can create this for yourself.
  2. That wouldn’t be workable. There aren’t nearly enough players or servers for such options. I thought that’s what the improved option was supposed to do, eliminate the exploit of simply lowering your resolution to create bigger dots. I don’t think this has been achieved though.
  3. Some more info, not sure whether it affects all the 13 and 14 series or not. It looks like it’s just the desktop ones though. https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/June-2024-Guidance-regarding-Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-K-KF/m-p/1607807#M73544
  4. @scommander2 I see you’re using a 13th Gen CPU. Are you aware of this issue here?
  5. No that doesn’t look really dramatic to me. The max chart shows some bigger surges, like the pandemic from 2020-22. That was huge for gaming in general. Where did you get the idea I like the dots?! Read my posts
  6. Ok so here’s the time period of the new spotting dots and the year prior. I don’t see a crash
  7. The improved spotting dots were introduced a year ago. The graph just shows six months. Perhaps take a longer time scale and see what that shows. The spike in May was the release of the F-4
  8. It’s not the only factor but it’s likely a contributing one. I gotta be sure a good portion of DCS players are in this age group. If you haven’t experienced this for yourself… yet, you will.
  9. FYI my electricity costs the equivalent of .014 Euros KWh (15.5c) so that and my usage of maybe 10 hrs per week make that payback period like 8 years.
  10. And that’s a lot of use… the equivalent of a part time job. The difference in cost is $59. So even at that rate it would take about six years to pay back. By which point you’d probably buy a new one.
  11. But then it doesn’t matter. If you spent more on the components than you saved on your electric bill it’s not a savings. It’s like when I ask my wife how much she spent shopping and she replied “I saved $100” See that’s just a pittance. Such costs would be irrelevant to me building a PC
  12. It would have to be a simple On or Off. Accommodating so many settings like Low Med and High isn’t practical. I don’t know if you recall the Model Enlargement feature but part of the problem with that was trying to have those three settings. Honestly even just the On or Off setting is too much to add in addition to dot labels which are essentially the same thing. There aren’t enough servers or players online in this game to allow people so many choices.
  13. If it’s a mission setting then a server or player could decide to enable it as well. Same as is done with labels.
  14. No you don’t have to. I think even ED recommends not messing with this. I don’t mess with it either and get great performance out of the 13 and 14 series CPUs I have used. If people simply like to play around with their machines that’s their choice but it’s not necessary. If you don’t earn back the difference then there’s no benefit. Pretty simple math (actually not simple, I’d like to see someone try the calculations ). And I can’t imagine any PC components truly constitute that great a portion of your electric bill. Not really a factor IMO
  15. Right. A player controlled setting like that would just end up being an exploit.
  16. The problem is to many people the dots are just ugly. And you’d be forced to have them on or be at a disadvantage. I’m sure many people would not be happy with that dilemma. That also assumes the 100% size is reasonable but I think the majority observation is that they’re too big. Plus I doubt they can ever be made to appear at consistent sizes across all resolutions. The better thing to do would be to just combine the features of spotting dots and dot labels into the label option which is already a mission setting. Or Off. For the same reason dot labels are a mission setting.
  17. We are far from the point where games are indistinguishable from reality. Unless that’s happened already and we’re in one now
  18. VR is like not wearing your glasses it’s so blurry But that would mean a bigger screen which some people can’t or won’t use. Personally that’s my solution. IMO eyeglasses are a poor solution compared to contact lenses.
  19. Plenty apparently Or their correction isn’t very good or out of date etc.
  20. Oh yeah there are game graphics approaching that now. But then throw in making everything destructible and make that a world the size of DCS with AI you can talk to and that all have advanced flight models and so on Not quite there yet…
  21. Sure, in the fantastical long term no more improvement will be possible since graphics will be indistinguishable from reality. That’s very far away and not in the foreseeable future.
  22. I’m curious how many actual women are on this thread
  23. Yeah but with a strong enough system there’s no need to fiddle with settings. Just max everything and game on. And since games like this one are designed primarily around 2D it’s just not as much of a stretch. The thing is it’s a moving target, games only ever evolve to demand more and more. So there will never be a time when VR “catches up”. Simple math says it’s always going to be more demanding to run VR vs 2D.
  24. I honestly think this is a big part of the problem. Yeah this will creep up on you as you get older one day you’ll wonder why you can’t read your phone.
