Hi folks, The Tomcat craze is going full swing and I think it’s wonderful to see this level of activity in the community. However, today I would like to talk about something that receives much less attention but is still (IMHO) important. Last January, Aviodev finally brought us the C-101CC and the EFM (external flight model) update for both versions of the plane. I have been an Aviodev critic since the initial release of the plane in January 2015. The SFM was just too limiting in so many ways; ground handling felt like flying a hovercraft, basic flight manoeuvers felt sort of scripted… I felt like I had been given a dull, uninteresting product and forgot about it for four years. Now that the aircraft has been given a proper EFM, I have gone through the process of rediscovering something I had written off as a failed module. To my surprise, the C-101 has evolved to the point where I can say that the Aviojet is what the Hawk should have been. It’s been known that trainers are the unloved step child of DCS, and now that I’ve completed a guide for it I can say that the C-101 is one of the few aircraft that actually accomplishes the real functions of a trainer. The rattle of the rudder shaker is a great way to learn how to train how to recognize a proper stall and avoid it, while the AoA indexer introduces you to the concept of « On Speed AoA » that is so crucial to carrier operations. Furthermore, the Aviojet is the perfect platform to learn the basics of IFR flying with navigation aids like VORs, TACAN and NDBs; the cockpit instruments are just so well laid out and visible that it makes the process of learning to fly with your instruments instinctive and straightforward. I have never performed so many successful ILS and VOR radial intercepts in any other DCS jet and much of what I learned I have put to good use in other more glamorous jets like the F-14 and the F-18. Believe it or not, it actually helped me for Case III recoveries in the Tomcat! The C-101’s flight director is a great teaching tool to help you understand the concept of maintaining altitude and airspeed during a flight, which are essential concepts to understand when doing IFR flights. That flight director is a powerful, powerful tool when you know how to use it. I know it’s a controversial view, but I believe trainers do have a place within DCS. The benefits of this trainer aren’t limited to navigation though; the Aviojet teaches you how to perform dive bombing that require a depression angle, a dive angle and an airspeed. If you respect the parameters in the depression tables, you should be bang on target. Modern jets with CCIP bombing don’t really punish you for being sloppy; old school trainers with old school bombing techniques drill into your head the importance of flying by the numbers, of being precise. Another thing I liked about the Aviojet is the fact that the systems logic didn’t seem dumbed down. As an example, pulling the engine anti-ice circuit breaker will not trigger a caution on the caution warning system panel. The caution will only appear once there is an anti-ice demand. It’s small details like that that make the aircraft that much more enjoyable to a guy like me. Now where, am I going with this? « Gee... Doesn’t this look like an infomercial, Chuck? » Yes and no. The whole point of this post is to raise awareness that Aviodev made a considerable effort to complete their C-101 and I appreciate their dedication to finish their product before starting to work on other (more profitable) projects. Many of you won’t care (and it’s totally fine), but I think it’s important to give credit where credit is due. The C-101 could have fallen into obscurity (cough, Hawk, cough) but I believe it has now reached a state where it belongs in the DCS World, securing Aviodev’s credibility as a serious third-party developer. Like I said, the C-101 is what the Hawk should have been; an accurate aircraft that has training value to flight simulator enthusiasts. Aviodev developers like Vibora spent hours of their time providing me support for my guide, so I think it's safe to say that these guys really care about their module and about their userbase. Initially, I wasn’t that thrilled when I learned that Aviodev was working on a Mirage F1, but their « show don’t tell » approach to development has restored my faith in their ability to bring us a great aircraft to life. Therefore, I just wanted to thank the Dev team for their perseverance in completing their project.

Holy sh... I knew I was forgetting something! I should've remembered the good old saying "When you read it it's "True", otherwise it's "Magnetic"". I'll try to have it fixed by today. Yes, page 10 is for the CC. I'll add a clarification. What's puzzling about it? The EB pages were added more as a "nice to have", but I didn't add everything for the EB as well... I used a similar format for the L-39ZA (some slides for the C) and nobody complained about it before...

Question - C-101CC NAV, APR and APR VOR FD Modes

At the moment replay tracks with every plane work... but only with the Tomcat does the loading bar get stuck at 80-85 % forever. I waited almost 30 minutes... nothing could load. I retried it with another F-14 track on another server, same deal. The problem with the Tomcat at the moment isn't that it doesn't record proper inputs... it's that you can't have any replay at all.

Question - C-101CC NAV, APR and APR VOR FD Modes

I'm asking what's the logic driving the FD bars for NAV, B/C, APR and APR VOR modes. My understanding is that the NAV mode FD bars show corrective commands to steer the aircraft to the selected VOR's radial (a bit like the LOC mode on the 737). There's an ARM light when course isn't captured and a CAP light when course is captured. However, the APR and APR VOR modes confuse me since the APR looks like it sets APR VOR and NAV ON. -
Hi everyone, I'm almost on the verge of completing the C-101CC guide but I'm still missing some information... mainly about the FD B/C (Back Course), APR, APR VOR and NAV modes. https://imgur.com/JrgILE3 What exactly are the NAV, VOR APR and APR flight director modes, what do they do? What's the difference between VOR APR and APR? My (very basic) understanding is that the NAV is associated with a navigation aid like a VOR (however I have no idea of the detection range), while the APR works a bit like a localizer/glide slope tracking for an ILS frequency. Pressing the VOR APR arms the NAV and APR modes. However, I'm not sure what the difference between NAV, APR and APR VOR is. Is APR VOR localizer only? If anyone had a very short tutorial or list of FD descriptions it would be very much appreciated. I have tested some of them, I know they work, but I want to make sure I know what I'm talking about before writing a guide on it. *** Also, another question: during an ILS approach, can we use the FD bars or should we only be using the localizer and glide slope deviation indicators on the sides of the ADI? New weathered cockpit liveries for MiG-19P

The screenies look awesome. I would LOVE if the weathered cockpit options were included in the basic version of the MiG-19 (meaning: I would have both the weathered and non-weathered cockpits available to choose in the DCS Options without having to download the Weathered package from the DCS Downloads website). The MiG-19 doesn't take that much place on my hard drive already... Does the Weathered Cockpit pass Multiplayer Integrity Checks? -

Because you don't find it interesting doesn't mean everyone thinks the same. Is the Super Sabre anything close to the Sabre? No sir. The MiG-15 and MiG-19 may look similar but they are nowhere near identical. You're comparing a sub-sonic aircraft with a supersonic one, which is a whole different ball game when it comes to aerodynamics. The cockpits may look similar, but once again they are much different under the hood. For me, the MiG-19 fills a gap in a period in aviation where designs were still experimental and aircraft were temperamental to the point where pilots died on a regular basis just flying them. Among the interceptor speed craze of the 60's, the Farmer in itself is an interesting concept: use the manoeuverability of a MiG-15 and add supersonic capabilities with afterburning engines. The Americans learned the hard way in Vietnam that the MiG-17 could still bite after all. So... for me, the MiG-19 is a completely unique product and I am eager to get some stick time in it.

The engine starter is pneumatic, which means it requires air pressure. Air pressure in the canister is expended by doing multiple engine starts and operating the flaps and landing gear. When you can't restart the aircraft, what's the air pressure indication you have?

I'm going nuts over here... I tried in the Caucasus map to set a VOR in the C-101CC and C-101EB. Is it normal that I'm not getting any distance information? With the TACAN-to-VOR chart I get a proper distance reading, but not with VORs at all. Is it a bug or a feature?
