MiG-15/F86 PVP Mission OP PowderKeg
mjmorrow replied to dooom's topic in User Created Missions General
Shear awesomeness, Dooom! MJ -
@mkellytx- That would be super cool. I really think it will be a solid and fun match up. Without bombs and such, i think that Mig-17F sim pilots will have our work cut out for us. I am pretty sure that the Thud had a favorable kill to death ratio against the Fresco and there are some really talented DCS sim pilots out there. Outside of attacking the novice AI, I think I am going to be in my parachute a lot. @Frosty- I have heard of that sim. if I had the free time, I would add it in my rotation, but I have to keep what game time I do have for DCS and the DOW server crew. i like your taste in planes, too! Out of the three you mentioned, i think the A-4 Skyhawk would be a great one for a Vietnam map. @Buzzles- The F-104 is an interesting plane. I wonder how it would fare? Not necessarily in Vietnam, I think it had a tough time against the Mig-21, but had success against the Mig-19. On a Vietnam map, with the right tactics, it ought to be effective against the Mig-17F or the Shenyang J-6, I suppose. P.S. The Shenyang J-6 might be a good first PRC plane for DCS World, since we don't have a Chinese plane, yet.

That would be awesome, Dooom. I didn't see the DOW up, the other day, but I can't wait to get back into the missions with the team. It would be super cool if we also featured Mig vs Sabre. WW2 stuff is awesome, but the Mig15 and the F86 are amazing add-ons and it would be great to have those planes in the rotation. One neat thing is that we can still use the Mustang in such missions. Myself, I really want to learn the Mig-15 and it would be really fun to sim fly the Mig with players over TS. MJ

Yep! :megalol: DCS is my go to place for a Star Wars fix. I am convinced that the Sabre vs Fagot match up in DCS is the closest we have to a Twenty First Century X-Wing Vs TIE Fighter simulation for the pc, at least until we have a DCS Wildcat vs DCS Zero match up. When I look at this chase scene from Episode VII, involving the Falcon being pursued by First order TIE Fighters, I can totally imagine this chase happening on a DCS Vietnam multiplayer map, except with a DCS Thud as the Falcon and DCS Frescos as the TIE's. MJ https://youtu.be/EEG9rtTJV_c?t=7s

The most representative fighter for the North Vietnamese is most likely one or several Mig-17 variants. As far as fighter or bomber interceptor jets, they also had a really small number of Mig-21s (not bis) and a number of Mig-19's, too. The North Vietnamese also had Mig-15s, but I think they only used the Mig-15 as a trainer for future Mig-17 pilots. As someone pointed out on this forum, the surface to air defenses would present the biggest threat to US air assets. Also, we would really need excellent GCI simulation, to create historically representative scenarios, because North Vietnamese air operations were highly dependent upon GCI, just like RAF pilots in the Battle of Britain. MJ

Seriously, I don't think it would be that imbalanced, unless mission planners go out of their way to make the scenarios unbalanced. If you have subsonic bomb carrying Thuds, covered by missile only F4's, getting ambushed by Mig-17F's, I think you have a highly competitive and balanced mission. if the Thuds want to continue on target, they are gong to take loses, if they drop their bombs and jump to hyper space, they have a good chance of getting away. The Mig-17 pilots could easily get into a bad spot, if they start flying wings level behind a Thud, fixating on getting that kill, allowing F4 jocks to roll in behind and make good use of the AIM 9. Still, if the Mig-17 pilots keep their heads on the swivel and are ok with not getting a Thud kill, they should have a good chance of defeating a Aim 9 missile shot. I think that is really balanced. Now, if you have F-15s vs Mig-17's, then yeah, that would be a sad day for the Mig-17 fanbois, like me...  MJ

+1 Yep! I love the Mig-15bis. Do you have the DCS Mig-21bis, also? I would highly recommend the Mig-21bis. The only downside of the Mig-21bis is that it raises your expectations for what a DCS add-on ought to be to absurdly high high levels. The Mig-21bis is a real work of art and I am not really into Delta wing planes, being that I am really interested in the Transonic jets, such as the Mig-15bis, F-86F, Hunter Hawker, and Mig-17F, myself. Belsimtek and Leatherneck Studios really deliver fantastic DCS add-ons. I hope that one day Belsimtek or Leatherneck Studios make my dream DCS add-on ride, the Mig-17F. I just know that Belsimtek or Leatherneck Studios would absolutely deliver the super high quality Mig-17F Fresco DCS add-on of my dreams. MJ

This is so cool. I can't wait to get my hands on the new templates for the Mig-15bis and Mig-21bis. The Mig-15 and Mig-21 are my absolute favorite rides in DCS, without question. I highly recommend both of these rides and both teams. I am extremely pleased with Leatherneck Studios and Belsimtek. I think it is very fitting that the Mig-15 and Mig-21 are among the first rides to have 8k templates, since they are both great add-ons from exceptional teams. MJ

[MiG-15bis VIDEO] Five kills for the red devil
mjmorrow replied to Chimango's topic in DCS: MiG-15bis
Chimango, When I have free time, I have to look at your great videos, again. I want to learn the Mig-15 and you are a great person to try to emulate. I am very impressed with the results you get. It is no easy feat. To put it in Star Wars terms, the F86F is like the X-Wing and the Mig-15 is like a TIE. The F86F is better than the Mig-15bis in most ways, able to out roll, usually out turn, out dive, and, if moving fast, out zoom climb, the Mig-15. It really takes a skilled TIE pilot....I mean Mig pilot, to dominate the F86F, that is for sure. :smilewink:  MJ -
Yep! I am a big fan of the Mig-21. The F-14 should be utterly incredible. MJ

I think it would be nice if we could put bonus money toward gift certificates and if we could donate our bonus points to players looking to buy add-ons, but lacking the funds to do so. Some of us have ten or twenty dollars in bonus points. If a few of us could donate our points to players lacking funds for a full price add-on, these players could get up to 50% off the price of a ride. That may not allow all players lacking sufficient funds to buy a add-on, but some players may be able to do so. MJ

Cool video! You have a neat Mustang cockpit mod, I have never seen before. Is it your personal cockpit mod? That server is so much fun. DoW is just fantastic. I can't wait to sim fly with the DoW crew, this weekend. Thanks again for the video! MJ

Russian Air Force Photos and Video (NO DISCUSSION)

A DCS SU-34 would be fantastic... ...or a DCS SU-24m2... ...or a DCS SU-25sm... ....as would a DCS SU-30sm. MJ -
I think that highly detailed carrier add-ons and a map add-on with some detailed Pacific islands would probably better represent the Pacific theater of operations than a highly detailed map of Pearl Harbor. Creating a map to reinact December 7th, as a means of representing the Pacific War would be like making a highly detailed map of downtown NY to represent the Afghanistan theater of war. Just as it is possible that Japan, in a what if scenario, could have fought to seize Pearl harbor, the Taliban, in a what if scenario, could get on planes, get off at JKF International and try to seize downtown NY, in an urban war. It is possible, but not representative of the Afghanistan War. MJ

"You thought the waiting was just about to end..." Giveaway
mjmorrow replied to xaoslaad's topic in Community News
I am already getting a copy of NTTR, because I purchased the A10 beta before the cut off date. If I win the prize, please forward the prize to someone unable to afford to buy a module, at this time. Thank you. MJ
