NakedSquirrel replied to Zappovitz's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
I'm in a similar boat here with the latest firmware update I lost all the keybinds for my Virpil stick. How can I copy the "old" joystick column if it is not showing in game? Or do I have to be proactive save it now for later hiccups? DCS keybinds have been hell for me, just because there are so many aircraft to bind and re-bind over and over :joystick: -
Red Flag Rumble March - Mig-15 vs F-86

Yea IFF is difficult. Be careful with terms because "Bogie" means unknown enemy. "Bandit" is an enemy aircraft. Also, IFF interrogation has a max range ( I can't remember what the max range for IFF interrogate off the top of my head. ) RIO can only IFF a target in TWS or STT modes. He wouldn't be able to IFF interrogate the target if he was still in RWS. It also takes him time to interrogate each target, he has to soft lock and tag each target friend or foe in TWS mode. You can use AWACS callouts and the IFF info you get on data link, but I personally wouldn't rely on data link alone because you sometimes get false markers. It's good practice to have your RIO check your target with a quick STT lock, Jester will usually ID as friendly or bandit. Then you can tell him to break lock and go back to one of the scan modes (TWS/RWS) When I fly CAP in the F14 I spend most of my time telling Jester to STT lock distant radar contacts so I can get a friend or foe readbacks from him.

In short the new Ryzen are on par if not better in ways than their Intel equivalents. You can look at Linus Tech videos for more detailed analysis and benchmarks, but I found it to be a good processor. With that, DCS is pretty GPU intensive, so there probably isn’t much to be gained on splitting hairs over performance if you can save $€£¥’s instead.

UPDATE The most recent patch fixed this issue. AIRIO is now working in Multiplayer.
-
I and the pilots I fly with that use Vaicom have the same issue. I do not know the cause.
-
What is it server side that causes AIRIO to stop working? ( I feel it's the same thing that disables tacview, but I do not run a dedicated server and know the setting )

3rd party modules update with game updates. Beta version will update more often but is not always as stable as the main branch. If the main game didn’t update to the current branch, search in windows task bar for repair/update DCS world

Ah got ya. Thought he said his hub was not externally powered. I use an external hub for good measure but I expected a motherboard 3.0 USB would cut it (especially after removing all USB devices.). Maybe it depends on the motherboard. But yea the Reverb demands a lot of jiggawats

What resolved the issue?

Try setting a joystick curve in the options. Practice hovering first And when you are on a landing approach, be methodical about slowing down and lowering nozzles. If you force it you’ll just drop. Also... in flight don’t over speed/stress the engine and make sure to conserve some H2O for extra landing power.

That isn't the behavior I notice. For me, Jester will try to lock the target and lose lock immediately if he cannot find/keep an STT lock and say "Lost lock" or something along those lines. There are some limitations to the radar, but I find it fairly easy to grab a lock as long as they aren't beaming you or flying the same speed away from you. If you are trying "Lock Enemy Ahead" and he hasn't verified the aircraft as enemy he might say "no can do", or if the target is a DL target he might not be able to STT lock it because it isn't on is radar scope.

Yeah by “the middle connection” I mean mini DP connection to the headset. That and restarting fixed the one or two times this happened to me. I think I had this error initially but I am fairly sure I resolved it by swapping DP ports or swapping my monitor to HDMI. I know the headset can have issues if the USB does not have enough power, which is why I suggested unplugging other devices. If you can’t get it fixed with simple reinstalling, trying different ports, and plugging/unplugging, try giving HP a call as Harli says. It seems doubtful if it is the headset as your friends didn’t work either, but they might be able to walk you through the setup.

If you still have a VIVE or Occulus, disconnect it. Make sure you are using USB 3.0 or switch USB 3.0 ports to another. (Maybe remove other usb devices temporarily till you first get it running. Try a different DP port and maybe a different port for your monitor? I think I had issues when my monitor and HMD both used DP ports so I swapped to HDMI. Also try plugging in and unplugging the middle connection. I get this error on occasion and this last step tends to fix it. Good luck.

Depends on why you like to fly aircraft and what you want to do with them, or how complicated you want your aircraft to be. If you want something that is fairly easy to learn/fly with cold war weapons systems this is a great aircraft, and a decent dogfighter. It's also fun as an "Aggressor" aircraft for training missions, since it filled that role IRL. It's pretty simple, however, so you're limited to IR missiles, guns, dumb bombs and rockets. Overall I enjoy the plane. It doesn't take a whole lot of poking around the cockpit before I remember how to make her fully operational. The only big issue I have with it is in the modern setting (besides weapons selection) is its lack of IFF for the radar. You have to VID everything, you only have 2 missiles, and you're slightly underpowered in the thrust department (giggity). If you want something a little more complicated from the same era, the MiG-21 is a good one, or if you really want to sit down and study, I'd go with the Viggen, or any of the more modern aircraft.

World Scale is off (Everything is tiny!)
NakedSquirrel replied to NakedSquirrel's topic in Virtual Reality
I forgot to come back to this thread since I posted. DCS now has the option to "Force IPD" in the VR settings (It got the option a long time ago). You can use this to effectively adjust the game scale. I was originally using the Vive, which uses both hardware and software IPD, but once you load into the game, the IPD doesn't update, so I would adjust the lenses to get good focus on the screen, but the software IPD might be vastly off. The "Force IPD" setting fixed this. I found somewhere between 57-62 works well for me. I used "Show pilot body" and "enable motion controllers" to find a decent scale. Enabling motion controllers gives you virtual hands in game, so I could guess from pictures, videos, or what I remember from museums or air shows to tweak the scale. The WW2 aircraft seem to have pretty decent proportions, as well as the F-14, F18, and F16. The only aircraft I've been able to actually sit in is the F5E, and that one seems to have fairly good scale as well, at least as far as I can remember. With that, some cockpits have scale issues. The MiG-21 is the most obvious if you look at the side switches. It would be difficult to fit a finger between the metal guards to get at any of the switches. The MiG-19 has similar guards but they are spaced far enough apart to give reasonable access to the switches, and the switches appear sturdy/large enough not to easily break, whereas the 21's are smaller than a toothpick (at least the side panel switches are). So if you are going to use Force IPD to tweak the scale, I would suggest using one of the WW2 aircraft or P51 trainer and "Show pilot body." -----Note----- M3LLC is working on the MiG-21 Cockpit, specifically the VR issues. Hopefully that includes scale: -
There are a few RIO keybinds that are convenient to use in the pilot. Currently we can edit the key files to use them from the cockpit, but it looks like this is going to change with the LANTIRN update, and the binds aren't in the Jester Menu as of yet. Here are some of the common ones that would be nice to have in the Jester Menu, if possible: -TCS FOV Wide/Narrow -DDD Ground Stabilize view mode -Radar 1, 2, 4, 8 Bar search modes It's just a hope before we're unable to bind RIO commands from the Pilot and vise versa.

Is jester getting an ACM call out fix?
NakedSquirrel replied to Capn kamikaze's topic in Bugs and Problems
I did notice he calls out missile launches that are either non-existent or perhaps extremely distant missile launches. I've noticed it on servers where I am just wheels up and still over 200 miles away from the combat area, but he will still yell at me to break away from an incoming missile. -
I don't seem to have too much trouble system wise. I'm able to get 45+ FPS on average (mainly due to going overboard on my latest PC build) GTX 2080Ti, AMD Ryzen 3900x, 32GB RAM. I need to spend more time testing. This might have something to do with Voice Attack (VaicomPro), but I am not sure, because Jester does respond, so the Voice Attack commands are going through and being acknowledged, but they are not being executed. I will have to spend some time using the default radial menu to see if there is any difference. I also need to create some longer single player missions so I can swap back and forth between pilot and rio to see which switches Jester actually has enabled. (And to prove it is exclusively a multiplayer issue.) I'm hoping if other players are having similar issues they will hopefully post in this thread or make one of their own.

I wonder if the AI is hung up because the AN/AWG-9 only scans out to 200, but the TID can go to 400?
-
Is RIO controlled server or client side? The AI RIO seems to stop working in busy multiplayer servers, or at least stops taking commands. I've had sorties where he will not drop tanks or ordinance, and ones where he will not move the radar where I ask him to. He just confirms with "Copy," but is either very delayed completing the task or does not do it at all. (Didn’t mean to add a tag to the post. Could not change it.)

When playing the F14 as RedFor in MP servers, I notice Jester labels Russian aircraft as bandits regardless if they are friendly. Sometimes he will say "you've locked a friendly" but distant contacts he will ID as enemy, and keep the enemy hat label on them /\, even with an STT lock. Is it possible to make the AI SPAM IFF interrogation just a little bit more? ... Sorry. I will try to re-post when I am able to save a track reproducing the bug. I had two sorties with bad IFF in the Growling Sidewinder server. I was going to upload one of the tracks to this message, but my plane doesn't move from the taxiway in the track. Oddly, it just goes through the pitch/bank motions on the ground (and even the final ejection!), but it doesn't show the flight.

@Hollywood For AIRIO. Is it possible to add a command that has Jester verbally call out a contact's bearing range and altitude (BRA), or even just distance? Currently, if you ask Jester to lock up someone STT, it will usually trigger him to give a BRA (well... usually just range and sometimes bearing and range). I find myself asking him to go STT and break lock to get a verbal update on the target's distance. That way I can keep my head out of the cockpit. It would be neat if you could just... ask him for an update. This isn't a command available in the radial menu, so it isn't a 'standard' trigger other than after he STT locks a target or when he sees a target worth calling out, but it would be a neat voice command if it is possible to trigger that AI behavior.

Long story short. The thrust master warthog setup is great. Especially it’s sensors. I hated my X52 because the sensors degraded pretty significantly after a year. My warthog is butter smooth. For the “plastic part of the warthog... the plastic gimbal doesn’t cause any problems with smoothness or sensitivity, it is just a weak point where the stick can break. After 5 or so years of heavy use, mine finally broke. You can easily print a 3D part replacement. I did just that, and the replacement gimbal worked just fine. I bought a Virpil base anyway (At the time, I didn’t think the replacement would work, and Virpil was having a sale.). I use the Virpil base with the thrust master grip mounted on it. Use the TM throttle and still love it. For my throttle, I have had to replace the circuit board twice. Once because it shorted out and again because my puppy got ahold of The USB cable. I also bought a replacement slew from https://deltasimelectronics.com/products/thumbstick-slew-sensor-adapter for a better analog input (love it) Virpil and VKB weren’t really options when I was upgrading. They are more pricey but they are all metal construction and it looks like they sell replacement parts. I’m the end it’s dow to how much you fly and want to spend. But be wary that anything is prone to break. Screws can get stripped. Cables get pulled. Electrical parts can fail. Virpil (and I think VKB will sell most easily fixed components. TM allows you to buy some, but it takes some back and forth with customer support. (Like the circuit board.) The only other product worth plugging is CH. Plastic components but very, very sturdy plastic with good sensors, and far cheaper than the afore mentioned products.

Very much worth the money and time to set up. Vaicom allows you to simply speak commands to ground crew, ATC, wingmen, etc. AIRIO lets you give commands to Jester without using the radial menu at all. I’m able to boss Jester around with ease. “Scan angels 10 for 100 miles, drop tanks, switch to TWS mode, STT bandit ahead...”. Makes flying the F14 a lot of fun. In theory you could edit the numpad commands and make your own, but Hollywood has all the commands inputted for you and it is an all around slick plugin. I can’t give it enough props
