I second this question, the harrier will be the first module I learn in VR.
-
C'mon you might get a dinner for two for the cost of a module.

Purchased, can't wait!

I was looking through the encyclopaedia of structures within the wonderful masterpiece of a sim and I have to say the vast majority of the structures look insanely low res, lack detail and in many cases completely unrealistic. I would like to ask if ED plan on updating all it's very old structures with new one's that look far more appealing and realistic so I can enjoy setting up missions and blowing them up with the new and I must say amazing looking destruction system that seems to be on its way?
-
I couldn't agree more, I think destruction levels need to be raised way up to really demonstrate the sheer devastation of these aircraft that we fly.
-
Sure is, I got 7 years from mine before she passed away. The one thing I noticed is how ultra quite my rig is now compared to the overclocked Sandy.

The cockpit is brilliant in VR, you can use TGP and what not no problem at all. Don't worry about it, jump in and set the PD to 2.0 and you will never fly 2d again.

After 4 days of gaming in VR I decided to load up the game on the flat screen, I couldn't bear it, looked so one dimensional, linear and flat, although we could do with higher resolution screens, once you get used to it and with labels there is simply no going back. I am using voice attack which is free for the first twenty commands, I bought it anyway at 10 euros on Steam but can be used separately. I would never game on a 2d screen again, its awful looking. If this is the start can't wait to see where this is going, man its going to be incredible.

VR absolutely transformational!

The higher the pixel density the easier it is to spot targets is it not? -
Thank you, I took the red pill yesterday in the Huey and my God, the choppers really are a total different beast altogether, a game changer. I got shot down and have crashed multiple times in the A10-C and the F5-E and it is crazy!!! The F5 cockpit is just awesome, feels so spacious, the huey feels huge, I leaned out the window and it's just awesome.

Thanks guys, I have been playing at pixel density 2.0 and its awesome, put in a 6 hour shift in VR land with DCS, couldn't be bothered with the other games lol

After a couple of days playing i can tell you the you will need pixel density set to 2.0, so you will be glad you picked up a 1080 TI, it's amazing. -
Looking back when Black Shark came out 'standalone' it is really incredible how far DCS has come, unbelievably so. Here are some points after experiencing DCS on the rift: I will never ever and I mean ever play on a 2d screen again, never. The graphics were way better than what I expected at a pixel rate of 1.6 and settings generally set to high it was a butter smooth experience in Nevada, Normandy had a few hitches. I have DCS & Windows on my SSD drive. I have most modules but only flew the A10-C & the F15 simply because I was too engrossed to visit the rest of the aircraft, holy shit I can’t wait to try out the Shark. The cockpit detail is phenomenal, there is no other word, every gauge, every switch literally pops out in all its 3d glory, you can’t ever and I mean ever imagine this until you experience it, there is nothing close. I can only describe it as if you were sitting in a cinema all to yourself, thats your monitor, and yet everything you see is fully rendered in 3d, the grass the pit, the dials just pop out in a 3d spectrum across your vision. The head tracking is so awesome that I will never use my TrackIR again, I don’t mean to offend anyone at all but when you go VR you will agree, just think no more re-centring your view after twisting your neck! Standing in the hanger makes you appreciate the enormous size of the planes in the sim, even rolling down the runway as you glance left and see your wing mans giant A-10C rolling for takeoff, damn. The lighting effects from the sun are way more impressive, the details that you just can’t see in 2d are god damn everywhere. A building goes from being a square box on a 2d screen to a 3 dimensional object.. While I am on the subject it would be great if ED added crowds of civilians for protests and medical facility's etc.. Missile launches look amazing by the way, the smoke streaming from the missile as it jets off in 3d glory on its forsaken path to obliterate the enemy. You can still use your mouse to click the instruments, its simple, even setting up controls is possible if you know the feel of your keyboard. I can’t believe the performance and smoothness in VR, sold. I thought I would be disappointed in some way and I am the exact opposite, I was expecting a downfall and didn’t get one, I was taken to the future of the video games industry but in my favourite sim, I felt lucky, I felt like money well spent. I was a 4k graphics snob at the best of times but if your a simmer and love your graphics don’t hesitate, you want be disappointed. Thank God for VR!!

what's the difference frames wise? I have a 1080 and I am curious! -
My rift is two foot away from me, my rig is arriving today and then I read this! Ahhhhh I am looking at my rift here setup on the table and I'm thinking 'no way that little thing can be this good'
-
My Rift & Touch bundle arrived today and is sitting on my desk as I have to wait until tomorrow evening for my new rig to arrive, by the time I install DCS again and get everything setup it will be Sunday before I take to the virtual skies, it's sitting on my table here teasing me!! Ahhhghh

How much better is Rift than Vive for DCS World?

Ryzen 5 1600X or i5 7600K for DCS
Dav IRL replied to maalikm911's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
i have always relied on intel, just feels like a safe choice, but each and to their own. -
Ive seen videos of people playing in the A10-C in VR and they seem to be able to cope, is it that bad?
-
Thanks for the feedback, I guess knowing the aircraft will make a big difference, I guess it will be 'labels on' but then again I find the targets hard to spot at 4k or 1080 anyway. I have a swivel chair so I may have to cheat lol to save my neck from breaking. I like the way the rift has a microphone which I presume can be used for voice attack and communication online, also the built in headphones make it a nice tidy setup for VR. I just hope the performance is okay, I am hearing allot of negative feedback regarding 2.1?
-
Thanks Pimp, I read that this morning, let me know how are you finding it since the initial wow factor?
-
Thanks everyone, my oculus is coming next week, probably the end of next week, I have most modules and and they are all setup control wise, I just need more immersion, more of a reason to lose myself for hours on end like I used to, hopefully this will be the ticket! I will post my thoughts as soon as I have flown in VR, can't wait from what you are all saying here.
-
Thanks, can anyone let me know what it is like to actually fly in VR for the first time? I hear the size of the planes and the cockpits is the most immersive factor, is this true?
-
Just upgraded my rig, sig below, I ordered the oculus and touch for 400, should I be excited as an avid DCS player?? Please let me know your thoughts?? Is it hard to setup for DCS? Never used VR before. Thanks pilots.

So you can't do what I suggested when you reinstall Windows??
