  1. I spend a lot of time on the dogfight server on multiplayer. This wasnt an AI Su27, this was a real player, who proceeded to beat me in a couple of other engagements. The glory of that turn and burn still remains however. I would be the first to admit its not ideally situated, but both are big gauges you know. The G gauge in particular you dont even really need to read the number to see where the gauge is pointing. The speed gauge is even harder to miss.
  2. It made me thing of this, is there ANY F-14 in a museum today that isnt in this vandalized condition? And if there is not, how precisely did the Devs cope with this when mapping the cockpit? I would hope there is at least a few left in showroom condition.
  3. Im not sure what the problem is, im pulling AOA based on the gauge and the G meter. I can imagine this is a problem for those not using VR, but its certainly not if you have one on. The G gauge and the AOA gauge are 2 of the most easily readable even in VR. Its got easier to manoeuvre IMHO. Or maybe I just got better. last night I did a beauful loop, found a hapless Su27 stuggling with maintaining speed in a climb, and I sawed his wing off with the 20mm. Thats with the cues as they are. Im not mocking those who use the cues, other than to say, I cant see you really need them unless you are really are doing something the Tomcat doesnt like, and most times you really shouldnt be at that end of the envelope. Just my view FWIW. Though I agree, a feedback seat WOULD probably prove useful. has anyone got any examples you can recommend on Amazon?
  4. I wouldnt mind a Jester DLC with alternatives. Like Brian Blessed. 'Gordons alive! I mean, our wingmans alive!' :D
  5. 'Have you lost that loving feeling? I have, after that landing!' Bitch. :D
  6. We so need a Zero. :(
  7. Yeah that is a bit of an issue. I sometimes find myself in some very strange positions trying to select an option. :D
  8. I thought the F16 behaves reasonably realistically.
  9. To slaughter 10 years newer Hornets, and hear their pilots scream with indignation. Well, I enjoy it anyway. Serves them right for cheating with Aim9X. :)
  10. Check the controls and make sure your axis are not set up on multiple controls. Its common with a new aircraft to have your pitch axis, your roll axis and rudder axis setup on numerous different controls. Failure to ensure you are set to only one control may create conflicts. For example, I seem to recall on one aircraft that ever time I pitched, it also triggered the rudders, which may be your problem. Just a lucky guess, hope you can fix your problem.
  11. Ive not sat in a Lightning cockpit, but it must be really bad to better a Vulcan Cockpit. I could barely get in it, getting out was not much easier.
  12. Im not quite sure what the problem is. Ive been playing it for the past 2 weeks nonstop and im loving it. The only problems are the night lighting, and thats easily solved. Just fly by day. There isnt a DLC that doesnt have one issue or another. Its the nature of an evolving system like DCS.
  13. I really like it. There are clearly things broken, but not the point of it being unplayable.
  14. Oh yeah, quite right. I forgot Kuwait also used them. No, im sold, you dont need to convince me.:D
  15. Presumably these could carry R-13 also, which would be more useful? Presumably it was quite draggy though.
  16. Well that is never going to happen. We may as well hope for something that is achievable than something that isnt. ED isnt going to upset the Russian Government, and I respect that choice. The newest we are going to get is the Mig23. As I see it, the whole DCS concept is mean to fill out periods in aviation history. And the lightning certainly did fill out is lifetime, even if it was only with 2 different airforces. That didnt stop anyone building an F14 I guess.
  17. I think a lightning would be very popular. It would even fit on the Persian Gulf map considering Saudi use them, and RAF deployments to Oman in the 1970's were possible. I also think a Hawker Hunter would have a lot going for it. Recce, Fighter, maritime strike, ground attack..... Well, we can dream cant we?
  18. Well if you do a quick search on 'Fleetex 83' or 'Able Archer 83', you will probably find an article showing that in early 1983 (I think it was march) a USN Battlegroup was able to operate in the sea of Okhotsk for about 3 days before it was 'discovered'. Caused a bit of an international incident when a flight of F14's got lost and flew over a Soviet Island. One of the carriers involved was the USS Enterprise. It kind of illustrates, its not as easy to find aircraft carriers at sea as people claim, particularly nuclear powered ones. There is also an interesting interview on the 'aircrew interview' page, where an F14 crewman (It might have been Okie, I cant remember) describes intercepting a Soviet Mig23 off the coast of Vietnam that was getting too close to the battlegroup. There are plenty of circumstances an F14 and an Mig23 could have met. They did in real life as we can see.
  19. Yeah, I cant get the B side to work either. I can get the click of it changing the tape, but it will play nothing on that side. Not tried it since the latest update, so cant comment on the recent crashes.
  20. I usually end up with the Hydraulics bled out and a loss of control. Though I did manage one epic landing, never to be repeated, on the Admiral Kuznetsov with one engine out, the gear and hook emergency deployed and the radar and hud gone for a burton. Ironically I go through all that, and the ground crew wouldnt repair my aircraft, the swine. The original was a tough old bird, but I dont see anything get further refined until we get the DCS wide damage modelling introduced. Could we get combat damage on the walkman? :D
  21. PVO utilized Mig23. Its pretty clear there was some prospect of PVO Mig23's and F14's clashing in 1983 in the aftermath of KAL007. The European Battlefield also includes the North Cape, again, a likely flashpoint between the USN and the PVO or even Frontal Aviation. They are near contemporaries, and would have fought each other.
  22. My Pet peeve with the Aim54 is more a case of Jester losing lock, for no apparent reason at all. Yeah, im sure ive seen occasions when ive lost lock with a few seconds to go and it finds the target. Which is wrong. Although in compensation for when I lose lock with it halfway there, it seems like a fair compensation. :D Not reality though. But how good was the Phoenix in reality? The sole occasion when the USN used it, it failed. Even many of the vaunted kills by the Iranians seem to have been at close range, because they didnt have enough Sidewinders or Sparrows. What we see as failure might just be accurate modelling.
  23. I truly hope he hasnt be driven off by some of the harder edged posters. I valued his input.
  24. Thanks, I think ill bind that to my warthog. Its literally happening all the time. Of course there is the question how much of this damage model is representative with what we will ultimately get when the whole system is overhauled.
  25. Ive noticed a similar problem in multiplayer, that I take damage and the hydraulics bleed off and go mushy, before failing completely. Ive failed to discover whether there is a set proceedure that can help with this. I dont know about RIO in NATOPs, but i think TopGun covered it fairly well. :D
