  1. To be honest the best learning experience I had was getting the crap kicked out of me by DavidRed and him telling me what I was doing wrong. A couple of other DoW guys helped me out in the beginning in a similar fashion with feedback. I have no problem getting my ass smoked as long as I'm learning so it doesn't happen later on. Your best learning experiences probably won't happen on packed servers with a thousand things going on but facing one better player with feedback. Spotting is only part of the problem for new players ... proper tactics, gunnery, SA, etc all have to be improved.
  2. Or fly in the 3000m to 4000m range and dive down on unsuspecting planes.
  3. First one is probably my favorite Dora kill so far.
  4. If you can take off and land in the Dora you should be ok in the 109. Torque effects are similar just make sure to lift off with stick slightly forward and the K-4 doesn't bounce anywhere close to what the Dora did on landings.
  5. I started losing fuel pressure today while running the engine at max for short periods of time. If I reduced speed down to 2500 Rpm the fuel pressure would gradually come back to normal. I just leave the fuel pump on because turning it off seems bugged or doesn't work as the manual states. This happened with MW50 on or off but it didn't begin until a refuel/rearm stop.
  6. I haven't tried the mod yet either but the main problem with using something like the German WW2 mod is that everyone would have to download the mod to see the units in the mission. That would be a big concern especially in a mission with so many ground units and their importance.
  7. The first round of online testing went well ... except for the God like flying of the Ai Mustangs. Thanks Mad Max and ratninko(sp?) for helping with the testing. Hopefully I'll get it setup for bigger servers soon.
  8. I'd say use no flaps at all ... this bird needs no help lifting off the ground. It sounds like you're letting it leave the ground too rapidly and its stalling. Apply forward pressure on the stick after you let the tail up and slowly let up but allow the plane to force itself off the ground. It will be more of a straight line with slow ascent takeoff but you should have control. Just remember to have the rpm set to 1230 position and put back into auto. I'm no DCS expert but I've only crashed this plane once on takeoffs and it was in the same way your describing.
  9. I know that the FW190 units that did ground attack missions didn't have alot of success with the 30mm against armor but this was almost always on the eastern front. How 30mm cannons would fare against Shermans in DCS ... who knows.
  10. I'm not 100% sure how much if any ground attack combat the BF109 saw but the FW190 F versions were replacing Stuka units and were becoming the main ground attack aircraft for the Germans. BF109's were used mostly for fighter vs fighter combat which is why German pilots hated or didn't want the gun pods.
  11. Alot of weapon systems were failures ... 21cm air mortars that were used by just a few units on FW190 A-4 through A-8s were another. Most FW190 units that used 30mms had them built into the wings.
  12. I'm sure it will all get tuned out ... the slowest I could get the 109 is around 150kph area which is pretty close to where it lifts itself off the ground. The Dora would hit stall speed much sooner trying these types of maneuvers but it doesn't quite have the same lift as the K-4. I'm sure Germans pilots really never tried anything like this so who knows really how close to perfect they can get it.
  13. Page 106 has the version I've seen on most of the mid war FW190s except they are twin cannons or single Mk103 cannons. It appears there was 2 barrel lengths for the MK108 cannon but I don't know how or if that changes other things like accuracy or range.
  14. Did they have the same gondola's on the FW A or F versions? I may have drawings and other details in one of my books if they did.
  15. No mods other than Diveplanes sound mods. Anyone should be able to do these moves that knows how to use the rudder as a brake. You can kind of do some of this move with any plane but not at these speeds before stalling and I'd imagine the engine would overheat on most. These were also done with no flaps and horizontal trim set to 2. Some amazing stuff can be preformed by going into a slight turn say to the right, hit FULL right rudder, and then move the stick to the left at neutral or aft position. Adjust depending on how the plane is acting from there. I use it mostly to slow down on landing approaches because typically it will drop 100-200kph off a planes speed or if I can shake someone off my ass but other than a one time thing its not very good tactically ... unless I'm strafing an airfield now lol.
  16. Having fun with the 109 Beta.
  17. Sure they have ... they fall off. :music_whistling:
  18. Just leave it on ... haven't seen the fuel pump die yet.
  19. I had a great time in the Mustang yesterday probably for the first time in awhile ... higher alts (16k) shot down 2 Dora's and a 109 in my first sortie. 109 couldn't escape no matter what he tried probably because I started the engagement with a slight altitude advantage. It very much appears that the 109 will not be outdiving the Mustang or beating it in straight line speeds. The BF109 also has a very limited ammo supply which can go very quickly especially since the 30s have no tracers.
  20. Stick with it and more people had problems with both the takeoff and landings in the Dora. Germans did end up having trainer versions of both aircraft but still had high loss rates for both aircraft due to accidents/malfunctions.
  21. Hop onto the DoW server sometime and I'll try to help you with the Dora. To be honest if you get good with the Dora the others released so far will be pretty easy to employ in combat.
  22. Wings are going to be addressed. The BF109 was known for its notorious takeoff/landings and hopefully they had someone that flew a BF109 test it. I doubt the Germans made alot of propaganda videos of BF109's crashing on takeoff or landing. So far I'm landing a K-4 more successful than I ever landed the Dora. That doesn't mean its not a struggle to slow down and land but I've had no snapped tailwheels or snapped tails in the K4. I've lost control twice slowing it down but it was landed when I screwed up.
  23. Did they change the default trim for the Dora because when I looked at for the first time today it was changed to what your recommending here. I don't think the trim in the 109 is bad at all ... nothing like what the Dora had. If anything the lift of the wings is the biggest problem because this bird really wants to climb and you have to push the stick down to keep here level.
  24. Dora should reach about 615 kph at ground level which is indeed much faster than the Mustang and 109 at this alt. I don't think I've ever hit 700 kph at 2000ft in level flight before in it but its only advantages over the other 2 are speed at some of the lower alts and its dive speed (acceleration). I think I had the 109 above 550kph at the altitudes your describing and make sure you have MW50 on when attempting this.
