The areas that are superimposed look closer to the FW190 original documents in FW190 Volume 3 by J Richard Smith and Eddie Creek. Are those the images of the 3D model in DCS? Its hard to tell from real pictures of the Dora because they usually show the Dora in a 3 wheel stance and not level like the drawing.

Hopefully you guys give it another shot and with the mod you guys run spotting is much easier than on other servers. TBH I wish other servers would all use your mod and add in the Mig/F86 to use on the Korean War Server. I wouldn't have to remove it everytime I want to jump on another server and the mod truly makes it a better experience. I agree with others that the AAA is very ineffective in detering vulching but there is little you can do about that. Like you said ... adding more AAA units reduces everything to a slide show. DOW tried the auto destruct mode if they flew over the enemy airfield but they ran into problems with that also. Sadly we'll always have morons that get an enjoyable experience from shooting planes on takeoff but then complain about there being no one on the servers or they can't find anyone in the air to fight.

Wish we got these types of updates from everyone. Keep up the good work Leatherneck!

Maybe its just a placeholder gauge but it does look strange. Guess we'll have to wait till we get closer to release to hear more or see if it gets replaced.

Implementing Virtual Stick Forces in the K4...
fastfreddie replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in Bugs and Problems
Very interesting read on all the aircraft. From this article it seemed the P-51 would be a very hard aircraft to pull into hard G manuevers but DCS does seem to have the stall modeled pretty close. P-47 sounds like it will be a joy to fly (since we don't have to sit in it) but will have a limited FOV. Hellcat sounded like well ... it would be challenging to keep in a straight line at certain speeds and with all the complaining about the Dora's trim. I don't know how well it would be received among some of the sim pilots here lol. -
Starts at 26:30 showing the loaded up and continues throughout the launching procedure (catapults) to landing on the island. Great video overall.

Only a few major fighters planes left in the US tree after we get the Wildcat, P-40, and P-47. Corsair, Hellcat, and P-38 would be at the top of the list for me with maybe the P-39.

FW 190 lower joystick-hand workload than the other two?
fastfreddie replied to Echo38's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Never tried it but what about the Saitek X65? I don't believe it had a spring at all but sensed pressure applied to determine how far to move the virtual stick. -

Definetly give the Dora a try. Great roll rate, light flight controls, and is quite easy to control throughout most manuevers without all the attention that the 109 requires. You may have to use half of the range of the flight stick and usually anymore will send you into a stall but shes pretty forgiving. Dora became my favorite plane the first time I flew it simply because of the way it handles itself and the cockpit layout was wonderful. You may have to apply some rudder to keep it trimmed but that doesn't sound like a issue. Its just one of the great planes to fly but requires the pilot to learn deflection shooting to be really good. If you have trouble with precise manuevers the Spitfire may be the worst "module" for you. Everything we've heard so far indicates that it takes quite a bit of precision and I wonder if it got pushed back because of flight model programming. -
Watched a video a few weeks back with P-47s taking off from carriers in the Pacific. The marines/army would capture an airfield on an island and the P-47 would take off and land on the captured fields. They would then be able to provide air support to the immediate region but couldn't return to the carrier. Can't wait to fly this plane in DCS. Any word on progress?

Catch the Euro server in the mornings if you can and use their mod which greatly improves spotting, gun smoke bug, and other problems. I wish all the dogfighting servers would allow it and add other airframes (with permission) so it could be run on the Mig/F86 servers as well.

DCS WWII: Europe 1944 Server Question
fastfreddie replied to DieHard's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Yeah complaining about the price of ED modules should of died along time ago with the amount of sales around here. You can buy a DCS module for cheaper than any of the crap WT packages at that time. The only holdup to get into the WWII/Korea era planes is perhaps equipment (hotas/rudder pedals) or operator effort. -
Same here and pretty much the FW190 was the same thing. Never got the fascination with the Spitfires that others have but to each their own. Hopefully we get some news on the big girl pretty some and the ground units.
-
Start with the F-86, P-51, or Mig 15 which are really easy to get in the air, fly, and land. If you like WWII birds then go for the Dora or K-4. I guess Huey is the least complex helicopter to fly out of the 3 available. Just make sure you have a decent computer with a joystick and rudder ... I cringe every time I see someone trying to takeoff in German planes without a rudder. If you totally unsure just wait till there is another sale and pick up a couple of them for under $30.

I flew the Mustang tonight and didn't see alot of overheating problems unless my speed dropped below 250 mph. Ran full WEP for over 10 mins in a straight line with no problems but in steady climbs or more than a few turns/climbing turns it would overheat. I agree that with all props engine management in crucial but in the times I flew it before this patch it rarely was an issue in the Mustang or 109.
-
It was part of the DCS WWII kickstarter that ED had to takeover. We will be getting the P-47, Spit IX, and Me 262 plus the Normandy map/WWII units eventually.
-
Glad to see that the Mustangs now have similar problems to the Dora now with overheating. First thing I would do when entering any engagement was to open the radiators more than the initial setting and always wondered how Mustangs going full blast didn't have to cut engine power to avoid overheating like I did. I'll have to give the Mustang another shot before the P-47D gets here. I noticed that K-4 people were having problems with overheating as well but I also would open the radiator full in it also in prolonged turning/climbing engagements. The automatic cooling systems in all these planes suffer with constant changes.

I've haven't had alot of dogfights in the Mig but it doesn't respond well in higher machs and I've learned to just avoid dives with the F-86 or reduce throttle when entering a dive. I'm still learning to fly the Mig but its dive brakes seem to be quite lacking in performance compared with the Sabre.

Restored close to flying condition but never flown because of how rare it is. A-5 in the original video not a Dora but maybe one day we will see one in the air ... replica or not. I'd love to see one of the 3rd parties make an A-3 or A-4 for some mid war engagements as more planes come online.
-
Same with the Dora ... damage takes a big toll on what the wings will handle whether its hard turns as slow speeds or simple pullouts at higher speeds.
-
Seen this so many times with strikes on human flown Mustangs using both the 30s and Dora's 20 that I've given up hope on a fix until EDGE. Usually I get pilot kills or totally unload to quickly finish off the damage count for that area of the Mustang to bring them down from the rear. I've never expected them to just fall apart from one hit but like your video shows ... no rudder or elevator damage at all. The Mustangs damage model seems to be by far the one that needs the most work from damage to control surfaces to the governor bug.

Don't forget to check your six ... oh wait don't do that because you will most definitely loose your target unless he's flying a totally predicable flight pattern with the sky as background. :music_whistling:

Are you running their mod on that server because I believe they adjusted so of the LOD settings for better visibility. Another problem with zooming is sometimes if you zoom out just alittle bit the object disappears. I'm sure most of us have done the chasing shadows thing before but the sad thing was that one I was searching for another guy in a planned location to dogfight. Could not find each other anywhere but I saw his shadow on the ground ... we were both 2km up in the air.

Go check it out on Steam between now and March 30th. You can use the key from Steam in DCS World but you can't use keys bought from DCS in Steam.

F-86 for $15.00 on sale! What are you waiting for. TBH the F-86 isn't a very complicated jet and you can learn pretty much all you will ever need from a few youtube vids. You need a manual out the door for the A-10 and BS but its not a game breaking feature on a F-86 or WWII plane. Like others have said ... alot seems to be waiting on EDGE but you can still enjoy yourself in the Korean Era Jets.
