Check out the DoW server in the daytime (usually around lunch for you). I've noticed much more action at those times (I'm guessing the European community) than in the evenings. Also the weekends seem to pick up quite a bit sometimes hitting full servers. If your just wanting constant action you may want to check out something free and simple like War Thunder to keep you busy.

I can handle just a moderate improvement in graphics as long as they fix the spotting problems and update the damage models to vehicles/planes/etc.

I doubt that anyones looking forward to the Bf109 as much as Davidred and I'd imagine that all Mustang pilots would like it kept in limbo for as long as possible.

Yeah the animation or whatever for when your engine is dead or dying appears to be a work in progress. It used to be that it just plain stopped but now it flutters before coming to its final end.

I don't think the HE111 was ever planned or discussed and by this time in the war it was not seeing alot of action. Germany was fighting a defensive battle by this time and had lost air supremacy on most fronts as early as late 1943. Even the Stuka was being replaced by FW190 F and G variants but hopefully someone will make Ai versions since other earlier aircraft are being made by third parties. Definitely need to get the B17 ai in here soon. High altitude combat is calling.:joystick:

You can keep practicing against the Ai but don't put to much into it. The AI usual does the same moves and once you get behind it ... it pulls straight up. Once you get better at gunnery it will take you less than 60 rounds. I've taken an AI mustangs wings off with as few as 17 and I've been shot down by the AI with as few as 4 (engine kill in headon). EVERYTHING will change once you start facing human pilots online. Getting hits and staying alive is harder but player airplanes are fully modeled so they take less damage.

I've currently got Saitek PRO Flight Combat Rudder Pedals which allow you to set your feet on the floor and operate the rudders instead of setting your feet on top of them. I've had them for a few years but they haven't seen real use until this year. I don't think they will hold up for the long run and I plan on getting a set of these next year. http://www.simhq.com/air-combat/mfg-crosswind-pedals.html You could check the ebay route but I would be very wary of buying used rudders pedals. Like Pikey said don't forget about wheel brakes also which will make life easier in all sims.

Never really had a problem with snapping wings in the Dora ... she can take ALOT of pain unless the wings are damaged. Actually had my first blackout in it today and was quite surprised because I didn't fell like I was doing anything that crazy. Its a different design from the Mustang so don't expect the same results.

You may want to hold out till you can get some rudder pedals because without the trim settings on the Dora you will be twisting our stick alot. It's a great plane and I love it but one thing that it is not is close to be trimmed unless your throttle is set at economy cruise speeds. Even then you will need to use rudder if you want to keep it flying perfectly straight and obtain top speeds. Some things are easier such as engine management but every plane usually has its downsides. Not sure what the trim settings are like for the 109.

P38L would be first day buy for me. Late war P38s would be just fine in DCS no matter what theater. I'd love to have the 410 also in DCS but I don't see that ever happening.

Good times tonight with Hellhound and Rico! Had planes warping around at the beginning of the mission but that went away after a few minutes.

Doing alittle testing and was amazed at the huge amount of white smoke coming out of the left side engine exhaust but nothing out of the right. The effects were also quite choppy when looking outside the left window and made a huge plume of smoke behind the aircraft for a short distance. Didn't know how to take a screen shot of it or I would. Altitude was over 8km and wonder if anyone else has seen it.

What did you change? I get this also and I'm not using headphones.

Guess I'll hold out for a clickable cockpit version ... was really excited for a moment and then I saw the price. Knew it wasn't the full version like the A10c or Blackshark priced like that.

Just finished my built and I really wanted to go with the 970 but couldn't find any in stock. Went with the 980 which I figure will hold me over until some 4k card solutions are reasonable. I'd definitely would skip on the 780ti series now with the price and power consumption difference in the 970 series.

Just built a new rig so I can pretty much max out everything but can these settings be realized on the server side online? What difference does MSAA make as far as viewing planes? Having a chance to spot the planes even if its different (sounds at least realistic) is much better than none at all. Different skins might actually have a real role other than aesthetic reasons depending on the maps weather conditions and terrain. Having a whitewashed FW190 against a summer forest background would make it easy pickings instead of the green box. Hope they check into this but maybe this all changes anyway with EDGE. Just hope they add more reflective surfaces in the next engine. On my last flight I was amazed at the mirror effects of small ponds/lakes in clear skies at 11km and it was even possible to pick up semi trucks on the highway with the windshield glare.

I think Davidred is saying that Lod5 is easier to spot than the green box especially at certain angles (above and below). The green box blends in quite well with terrain from above and the green box disappears from below. P-51 Lod5 is visible from 500m-4000m then it goes to green box. FW190 Lod5 is visible form 500m-6000m then it goes green box. So the FW190 should be easier to spot from further away depending on the angle and skin colors. Just pointing out that there shouldn't be any difference in the Lod5 between the two given their shape and size.

So am I reading this correctly that the P51 doesn't show up until 4000m while the FW190 shows up at 6000m? Doesn't seem correct either considering they are about the same size and shape. Sounds like using maybe others with different systems should try using the P-51D_lod5.edm version instead of the green box just to see how bad they suffer in performance and what differences they notice in being able to observe planes from distance.

BF109 and the Spitfire are the ugliest planes in my opinion. Love the look of the Dora, Mustang, and P47 but we all have our favorites.

Yeah modeled for the exterior but not internally so far. Is this modeled for the P51 also because I can't remember it happening in it either?

Nothing that I know of in DCS is altered to determine gameplay aspects. They try to make as real of a simulator as possible. Mustang carries around 240 gallons of fuel and burn rate varies depending on weight/performance. Average burn is probably in the 60 gph rate and close to twice that in combat conditions. Others here could give you closer to the numbers answer but you could burn all your fuel in about one hour if you tried. Some online mission may also reduce the amount of fuel that was loaded to make it combat effective. Mustang is not a plane meant to be flown on a full tank of gas.

Did you switch over to the other fuel tank? There are alot of other factors in fuel consumption like speed, altitude, etc. Never really had a problem with fuel in the P51 online because by the time it was up so the ammo. FW190 on the other hand ....

Target is quite easy to use once you figure out just a few things. Some functions aren't recognized but can be assigned using the directx functions in TARGET and simply chosing the joystick/directx button on the DCS side. Alot of people don't like setting up everything on the DCS side because sometimes in updates it gets all messed up.
