  1. I think the AI damage model has changed especially for the FW which is insanely easy to shot down now. Wings seem to be coming off the FW190 pretty easy and I've even seen the AI FW lose pieces of its tail(doesn't mean it changes anything). AI Mustang wings seem to be coming off in one good burst in most cases but its flight pattern isn't as realistic as the AI Dora. You rarely will see anyone flying the Mustang the way the AI does on the single mission which doesn't give you a true version of what to expect or practice for online. I don't think they are telling us about changes to the DM even though some seem apparent.
  2. Well this keeps popping up every now and then in certain conditions. This time there was 3 of us experiencing the same problems on the same mission last night. 4GB of video ram on a single display running at 1080p so doubt that is the problem. I've seen this on two separate systems one using Win 7 with an ATI card and the other on Win8.1 with an Nvdia card so I doubt it is a driver issue(multiple drivers). It only occurs in certain lighting conditions usually with the sun in overcast/clouds or on early morning/late evening conditions. The bug can be worse depending on the light level and other conditions. Here is a video and at the end in the chat someone else is complaining about it. http://youtu.be/4vhISG9SdMo
  3. There are plenty of people flying the Dora especially since the sales and although some had a hard time at the beginning with takeoffs/landings they figured it out. I still lose a tailwheel in landings sometimes and don't forget the Dora will probably still get some more adjustments.
  4. If DCS is going to stick a rocket system on the Dora then lets put the right one on it. It should be getting the R4M which was in operational use with JG26 and I quote"The missile was intended to be used in conjunction with the EZ42 gyroscopic gunsight." The R4M came in both air or ground rockets although the Dora only saw the air version and the FW190-F8 or F9s got the ground attack version. Lucky enough it also saw action with the ME262 so it would be used there also. 13 rockets where placed on a rack under each wing (same rack as Me262) and was usually fired off in 4 salvo because the rockets would form a circular pattern after launch about the same size as a bomber. http://youtu.be/mpvmygc8f44 Pictures: I have some others ones but this should do. http://fw-190.forumgratuit.ch/t75-focke-wulf-fw-190-d-9-avec-r4m
  5. They said that the DM will be looked at but don't judge the 20's against the AI. It's much easier to bring down player mustangs with hits to the engine. They need to do some work on the control surfaces of the wings and tail but otherwise the P51 player model is ok. Here is one video with engagements with 4 different Mustangs in one mission. Two go down very quickly and 2 take some work because they weren't perfect engagements.
  6. Just decide wisely(Dora) now! If you don't have the Mustang/Dora you can probably pick them up pretty cheap at the next sale and select other (BF109 releases soon) titles.
  7. Loved to see a manual and takeoff/startup tutorial!
  8. I have yet to see any information/pictures that confirmed that the Dora ever was used with the 21cm Air Mortars. Very few FW190A versions ever used the thing and the ones that did were mid war A frames or a few A-8s. Just because it was an available addon doesn't mean it happened or should be included. These things slowed the plane down so much and were so inaccurate it made them impractical for combat use.
  9. Log in and look under backer history to see which projects you have backed and for how much.
  10. At $40 pledge you will get to choose 2 planes of your choice and you still get the Normandy map. The original group that did the kickstarter failed so ED stepped in to finish the project with a restructure of rewards.
  11. It can be used to buy you time but I only use it in emergency situations when I'm being closely followed at lower speeds. It's rarely effective against better pilots who maintain speed discipline in pursuit (alot of Mustangs pilots get greedy and don't) but sometimes its the last trick in the bag.
  12. http://youtu.be/YDIttyxMoIw I can't remember if I've had my radio shot out completely but I have had it start breaking up when I had damage to my plane. Pretty neat to see it chopping in and out with my failing plane. Some missions haven't been edited correctly like others have said but I can't remember my battery/generator failing unless I dropped my rmps very low for quite a while.
  13. We'll see what they address after Edge and hopefully they look into everything. I've rarely killed a P51 pilot either or taken off a wing at that. Almost all my kills end up being engine(my favorite target) or destruction of the body of the P51. The FW190 wings seem to be coming off pretty easy now and I've had several snap after being damaged in moderate G's. I'm sure they will address alot of this because it wasn't the biggest issue when it was just the A-10 or Blackshark.
  14. Yes, the Dora governor can be taken out and I've had it for taken out several times. Fuel tanks act similar to a sand bag in this situation by absorbing the velocity of the round. Being they were self sealing they didn't have the same problems of the Japanese with catching fire. This said the FW190 pilots reported the biggest and most dangerous problem was the fuel lines being hit as it could start cockpit fires. I seriously doubt the unprotected fuel lines are damaged modeled in either plane. I was a .50 gunner in the Army for 4 years so yes I know exactly what the rounds do and what the gun is capable of to being with. To expect a .50 cal round to have exact physics isn't going to happen. Just because a round can go through a piece of steel plate on a range has nothing to do with the changes it would have hitting multiple components in a plane. Watch WWII real life gun footage and the FW190's take quite a bit of damage. The damage model needs work but control surfaces seem to of the biggest concern now.
  15. I've lost an engine to the AI P51 with only four rounds in the initial pass so it can be done. The very front portion of the engine cowling does have 5.5 to 6.5 mm of armor to protect the radiator. The oil tanks of the Dora are located at the rear of the engine on the port side so they are well protected from attacks also. The German armored seat design and fuel tanks were designed to protect the pilot from attacks from the rear and underneath. They also used a 50mm windshield so the most vulnerable angles would be from the front left or right at 45 degrees. I'd loved to see the FW190 A-8 or F-8 in the game with a R8 conversion. It would be the German WWII version of the A10 with its upgraded armor kits. It would make ground attacks reasonable for once.
  16. I think the Dora engine damage is pretty well modeled. I don't have an instant engine death usually but depending on the damage a quick or slow death. I've lost coolant pressure, oil pressure, and engine governors which led to a dead engine. If you notice that the Dora pilot isn't climbing anymore or pulling sharp turns his engine is probably dying. They last longer in straight lines or in a dive. Player Mustang engines seem to be modeled pretty well also and its definitely my preferred way of bringing down a pony. Keep doing those head-ons Mustangs. Tip for Dora pilots-approach from slightly higher and at a offset angle to the right or left. Put your sight on the tip of the nose of the Mustang and let her rip all the way down the side of the aircraft. Usually you will kill the engine in less than a minute and sometimes get a pilot kill. The hardest way to currently kill a Mustang is to shoot at its wings or from behind. If your a good gunner on an unsuspecting Mustang you can finish them in one run but like someone else said it seems to have a hit point thing going on with the tail and body of the plane. I've never had gauges crack but I have had them stop working(Dora). For some reason you can sometimes see windscreen damage on the outside or bailing out but never during normal flight.
  17. I don't think it is way far off on the DM except in the case of control surfaces never seem to be affected much and there are way too many governor failures or gunsights lost instead of other visual clues to damage. It would great to see Mustangs lose tail function or ailerons instead of flying around like the 20s did nothing to them. I think the Dora's damage model seems to be alot more detailed than the Mustangs. I've lost gauges, generators, ailerons, and slowly had my engine die in the Dora. I don't expect much on any of this until after Edge but hopefully soon after. The WWII portion of DCS seems ready to explode with just a few improvements to DM, added Ai(ground/air) and maps.
  18. Well Kurfurst's document has the exit velocity at 500m/s, my book had it at 520m/s, and Wiki has it at 540m/s so there seems to be variations in data unless they improved the system some. What does Strich mean on the document?
  19. Not sure about this system but with thermal sights on the TOW missle systems it was much easier to pick out targets in cold conditions than in hot weather. Man made objects different quite alot in temperature from the natural ones. Trees and grass don't retain the heat like concrete or metals so the contrast was much higher in these type conditions.
  20. They fired at everything including friendly escorts if they thought they were attacking aircraft. Some German pilots reported that some bomber groups quit using tracer ammo but in this case the gunner was probably dead. Usually the first thing they shot at was the rear gunner and then the inboard engines. Experienced fight units attacked from the front but new, ground attack, or transferred units usually would dive down below and come up to attack from the bottom or rear.
  21. Just read one pilot account and hes said in the FW190A version they flew had 20 and 30s in the wing tips (13mm removed and armor plate inserted). When diving into the bomber formations they would fire the 20s at 400m and 30's at 200m.
  22. Don't use labels and once you play it a couple of times you should have a good idea where they are. Spotting is very hard in this game and use zoom to help you find your targets before you turn in to attack. Honestly most of the online missions the AAA doesn't use the ZSU.
  23. Steep angle or high dive speed help to avoid AAA and try to get the one in the convoy on the first pass. If I remember correctly the others will eventually run out of ammo but don't stay straight or level for long periods of time. In real life most pilots used the one strafing run rule because they would often catch them by surprise on the first run. Any runs after that and the AAA units would know exactly where you were and greatly increased the chances of getting shot down.
  24. These were the numbers from a prototype D-9. 3250 rpm=610 Liters/hour 3000 rpm=530 Liters/hour 2700 rpm=375 Liters/hour 2400 rpm=285 Liters/hour 2100 rpm=215 Liters/hour Production Dora has 520 Liters internal with a maximum range of 840km at 5650m.
  25. You can get them right now on sale on Steam for a great deal. Less than $25 for both the Mustang and Dora.
