  1. Run at a lower rpm (2300) when cruising and I'm not sure if they mess with the fuel percentage in offline missions.
  2. I don't think anyone should blame VEAO if they don't want to or can't make certain planes that they don't think is possible for them to complete. I just think that all the developers should look closely at what they plan to make and what purpose will the aircraft have in a combat simulator. If someone makes a early model Zero or whatever to pair with the P40 or Wildcat or something I'd buy both of them.
  3. I agree ... at least until someone tackles early to mid war fighters to fill the void. Late war Japanese fighters would be required to compete against Mustangs/Spits/Bearcats. I think the smartest thing that DCS or its third party developers did was release the F-86 and in relatively quick time frame(for DCS) announce the Mig-15 with its release in a good order. Yes some of these planes are great to fly but I think the majority of customers in the future or close to it will only look at the modules when it has something (human) to fly against. The A10 and Blackshark were easy to put out there by themselves because of the ground attack focus. The Mustang sat alone time by itself on my shelf with little attention until the Dora release. I haven't bought the Mig-21 for the that reason alone and hope developers put that into perspective. There are plenty of titles rolling out so just buying everything because its new won't work forever ... only so much time to fly anyway. I will get the P40 at some point but what am I going to do with it after the first couple of days when I've figured out how to land/takeoff/all the controls. Get slaughtered by Dora's or K-4?
  4. I like that map and the Solomon Islands look ripe with airfields and would make it easier to generate missions. A larger overall map would give more areas to launch missions from but that does not mean any reasonable mission planner is going to make 4 hour flight times. You can probably throw out almost everything historical in any argument because to be honest ... until we see alot of different WWII aircraft models from this theater it would be Dora/K4 vs Mustang/Spits. Most everyone is asking for a Pacific map because it would be completely different from the dull Georgia map and most everything planned. Maybe it would lead to some of Japan's historic fighters/bombers and other allied pacific oriented birds but all we can really do is ask for them and hope that one day it happens.
  5. I don't know ... been playing on servers with alot of ai fighters lately and its gets pretty boring quick. I'd love to have massive furballs with players but having 7 to 8 ai mixed with a few humans on each side isn't cutting it. With that said I haven't seen alot of great furballs(6 or more) with human players on maxed servers. It seems that half are usually lost, a few are crashing their planes, mustangs are either hugging the deck so they can't be spotted, or people avoid flak zones because they offer a huge disadvantage.
  6. Good job but I wouldn't use a plane piloted by a vulcher as an example ever. They are usually new pilots or worse ... ones that can't compete in the air so they attack you on the airfield. The guy you were flying against didn't appear to have a clue even on how to enter a turn fight. No high yo-yo's or even straight runs to achieve a successful attack and I was quite surprised you didn't get his cooling system on your first set of strikes.
  7. Great map. To be honest the pacific maps could be broken down to areas that most shouldn't be overwhelming to create. Carolina Islands, Mariana Islands, etc would be pretty simple it seems to create and would be great for carrier ops. Even a larger island group like New Guinea/New Britain map is going to be mostly jungle with few cities/towns much different to create than our current Georgia Map.
  8. Well I guess its good we have the 262 coming so something can shoot it down.
  9. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=101143&highlight=small+dot&page=3 Check this thread out about modifying the icons. I don't know how it works on the server level but I'm sure someone can help you out.
  10. To bad the flyable B-17 wasn't part of the DCS WWII debacle but I'm not sure if that wouldn't of sunk the whole project lol. Maybe we'll see a twin engine bomber soon enough ...2020?
  11. Love to see the Ju88, Me410, and Stuka in DCS. Hopefully they address the Eastern Front at some point and we get to see Russian planes and bombers.
  12. Good setup especially for the new guys. Hopefully the better players help them out so they don't give up. I'm sure Davidred will hand out tips between blowing off people's wings if they ask for help. Wasn't there a mod to make the icons just a small dot and erase all the other information? It's pretty difficult to see what the target is doing from further than a few hundred yards with all that info in the way.
  13. Look for missions that focus all the planes to one area and read the briefings if your looking for action. Spotting is very hard especially when you first start flying and sometimes even having meet up areas with other opponents it can be difficult to spot them without flak. Other pilots most of them new seem wary of meeting up points for dogfight action but keep asking if nothing is really going on. Nobody likes to fly around doing nothing forever.
  14. 670 isn't the correct number. That is only the number of Dora's made in Sep, Oct, Nov, and January. These does not include the month of December or February in which some information is missing and it is assumed that over 1200 Doras were completed before the end of the war. This comes straight out of Focke Wulf Volume 3 1944-1945 by Richard Smith and Eddie Creek who had several thousand pages of research on the FW190. There were plenty of Doras in operational units percentage wise but I've probably got more flight time in this sim than any German combat pilot at the time. Most of them spent there time waiting for fuel or transferring airfield to airfield ahead of advancing allied armies.
  15. Roll rate of the Dora is better than both the Mustang and 109 ... the earlier versions of the 190 may of had a higher roll rate but I'd have to look that up in my books. Different engines, armor, armament, airframe etc changed the 190 over time. Turn rate on the deck for the Mustang and Dora is very similar (flaps etc) with pilot ability like some of the others said being a deciding factor. Once you start get off the deck it starts to lean the Mustangs direction vs the Dora. I haven't done any real testing on the 109 but it also changed alot from the early E models to the K4 so you'd have to look at that also when determining turn radius while comparing it to other planes.
  16. I wouldn't put alot of weight into training lessons/campaign of any of the WWII planes so far. It is more difficult for most players to learn to takeoff and land but those are things that have to be learned with experience. It is more difficult to employ in combat than the Mustang due to its visibility(long nose) and it doesn't turn as great as the Mustang/109. It requires more discipline to be successful when playing good Mustang pilots online for sure but it carries a large amount of ammo with a good punch. You are able to do bombing with the Dora and there are several missions on the DoW server with ground targets. It is a very easy aircraft to manage once you get it in the air with its advanced engine management system and she is very quick. My favorite aircraft at this point to say the least.
  17. Various types of aa(light/heavy), anti-tank guns, artillery, and hopefully a few different models of tanks, support vehicles tracked or otherwise for all sides.
  18. Dropped all curves a while ago but you may want to put a slight rudder curve setting so it's easier to keep on the ball.
  19. You'd probably need to have some kind of visual cue and be pretty damn quick on closing off the damaged portion. The K-4 goes from normal temps to dead in almost no time at all.
  20. I don't think I've ever pulled the level on the left side but if you close the radiator on the right its pretty much going to kill your engine within a minute. I have however been using the right hand side radiator by setting it to open to slow the plane down and keep it cool in tight dogfights. Just remember to put it back in auto when your not using it.
  21. Like the skin.
  22. Is the G series different from the K because he talks about pushing the stick forward to unload the tailwheel? Don't we have to use the locking mechanism on the left to unlock and lock the tailwheel in place?
  23. I don't know how much louder a prop engine is than a commercial jet but you can definitely hear the wheels rolling as your taking off and as they are being retracted into the plane. Are they going to address the ability to hear outside noises while in flight in the future?
  24. I still think the Mustang is the best overall plane in the WWII lineup even though I really don't love flying it. That said I think the Dora is the best all around fighter in the German lineup. Better at ground attacks, assuming bomber attacks (historical), and can take more punishment than the 109. The gun load out is better for combat against fighters (and you have much more ammo) but the 109 is a better dogfight if you find yourself in 1vs1 combat at a similar attitude and speed. They are both good planes and if used correctly should be able to contend in most situations. If I could throw out the armor protection in the BF109 over the pilots head I'd could deal with the visibility problems much better. I thought the bar above my head in the Dora was going to drive me crazy .... if I had only known. Mustang pilots don't know how great a view advantage they have till they hop into the 109 or Dora.
  25. I don't have a problem with most of those things (actually appreciate the wheel sounds and hearing the Dora turning over for startup) but the gun sounds need alot of work with particular attention to the Mustang gun modded sounds I've heard. The volume of the mustangs firing sounds while I'm inside the Dora/109 is pretty absurd and to be honest we shouldn't be able to hear passing planes or their guns firing to begin with. Only if you sitting on the runway and have your plane's engine turned off should we hear anything. Hearing a bang or thud as something hits your plane is one thing but between the ability to know someone is in your area because you hear their plane is bs (along with the glitching when a enemy plane comes in your area).
