  1. Sorry I really have to stop myself from saying something mean here... :D Are we looking at the same patch notes? Release of Viggen? New campaign? I am sorry that the very specific thing you want above all (whatever that may be) is not in todays patch notes. But that are your own expectations and since we don't have any announced releases pending they seem pretty misplaced anyway. :) Updating right now, this is a good day! <3
  2. Download the installer from here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/ Default DCS path for Steam should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\DCSWorld" but could be different if they installed it somwhere else. They should also make a backup from the user folder to be safe (the config files are in there): "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS" The installer should then recognize the existing DCS (steam) install and use those files. If everything works correct you will have the DCS-Standalone shortcuts in the startmenu (repair, update) and also it should use your existing config files from the DCS-user folder. (Steam&Standalone use the same folders) Please note that this way you make your Steam installation to a Beta version and if you want to revert back again I recommend SkateZillas DCS-GUI tool. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053 If you have a Standalone version it is very easy to switch between Release & Beta branch. (It is just one line of code in a config file^^)
  3. Tell them to install beta intaller into their steam directory. Once the shortcuts are created the updater will recognize the files in the steam directory.
  4. This has been terribly derailed. The discussion is not if and how FC3 players are more or less immature than others. This is not a discussion about individual servers setting up their missions with FC3 and other modules and how this doesn't fit into the style some people enjoy to play. And this also shouldn't be about servers balancing their missions to integrate asset X better. Each and everyone of those topics could have a pages long thread on it's own and trying to discuss all this in one will just lead to the train wreck experienced above. :) As I understood the topic, the question was if the MP community in general has become more toxic / immature. This can probably even be measured by server admins via friendly fire statistics and chat incidents? Maybe even server admins of the bigger servers could come together and do some datamining? For example, what kind of offenders are these guys that ram into people randomly on the airfield. Is this somebody who logs in once, does this and never logs into DCS? Will he try to troll on every big server until he is banned? Will these users go on become normal players over time? Do we need different / better / other admin tools to deal with troublesome players? That's all stuff that I am way more interested in this context. :)
  5. Raise / Lower seat seems to have the same problem. (Keyboard works)
  6. I hope the powers that be had the present of mind to give you access to the beta build.^^
  7. I have mostly positive experiences, there is the occasional kiddy spamming the chat, true, but most server admins have a no nonsense attitude about that. You guys have to actually work with your server admins. Logging in only a few times and then only complaining about it and not informing the server admin will change nothing. If there are people causing trouble, screenshot& pm to server admin. No server comes to mind that wouldn't take action. There is also a difference in friendly fire offences. We have to occasional new guy not checking left and right before taxiing, while annoying, I think all can agree this is not a major issue. A guy does this once or twice and learned his lesson. Next we have IFF noobs, who either new to FC3 or unfamiliar with their chosen aircraft. ('wait wat, I need to manually IFF!?') While certainly not nice going into MP without knowing how to check between friend and foe, a few sentences in chat 90% of the time set them straight. Not to forget is the occasional fail in the heat of battle. A Aim120 going pitbull on friendly, messed up IFF in a flanker while merged and mistaking the wingman for the enemy etc. And last is the type of intentional disruptive kiddy, just trying to troll at all costs. I have seen this in multiple ways, normal blue on blue, cheating to get weapons on freeflight server, ramming if no weapons are to be found, be it in the air or ground etc. While each of those cases above might cause a very sour afternoon and ragequit, only the last example truly warrants admin action and the rest is a education process to other players, everyone has to take part in. Take the guy taxing into you without looking, I have seen more times than I can count, people exploding in rage (and foul language) and quitting instead of educating somebody new what and why he did something wrong. And is somebody here who doesn't come from a flightsim background that has NEVER done exactly this? :D
  8. This is probably not so easy from the technical side of things, but if at all possible I would love this feature. Generally mission editors slack on the liverys, and honestly, who can blame them? Via the mission editor for a lot of different units, it's not that simple, but having people on a freeflight server do this themselfs would be great. But this must be able to be enforced by ME!
  9. Hi there, interesting topic with a lot to think about, so far I feel both 'sides of the argument' have valid points. I understand people don't want the 'morality statement' and a extreme version of this, as described by Neil, and I agree. But on the other hand an easy way for the mission editor to not only enforce some certain rules of engagement but to have some visual feedback of the consequences would be valueable to the sim. To clarify, I am too not talking about torn limbs, death & carnage etc. This thread is a wishlist afterfall so let me try to formulate two feature requests here and I will try to orient them on current systems we already have: 1. Some kind of recognizeable non combatant units that are placeable in the mission editor and able to move etc. Civillian units/models already exist from civillian traffic cars, air show units etc. and I don't think it would be that big of a deal. This would help a lot with immersion for all kinds of missions/scenarios. 2. General definition of all civillian buildings/towns/structures etc. (via ME!) with the possibillity to change this for certain areas, simulating that the population has been evacuated/fled/area is held by combatants. For example if you drop a bomb on a city, damaging buildings will trigger some kind of penalty (defined by mission editor) not unlike the friendly fire system we already have in place. Maybe even civi units flee the damaged area, shake their fists, more civ traffic outbound of the area etc. This same system could be used for units from (1) and I think this system could also be slightly changed (for different mission sets). If some evil pilot attacks civillians on purpose, penaltys could be defined by ME/admin (or ignored entirely). I know a lot of people (plus myself^^) that like some kind of immersive flying, treating the sim world a little bit more like the real world. As in, don't crash into civi citys, don't fly super sonic over citys, take that traffic pattern over the empty field... And don't nuke/hit friedlys/civillians. This topic is just one of the things we should keep in mind as the ME evolves. With a big dynamic scenario and moving units this could add a huge aspect to the game. But I will agree with anyone right away that we have some bigger construction sites right now, hence why I tried to base my ideas a little on existing systems. Maybe that way one day it won't be such a big leap. One last thing: People that approve this feature also have to realize that probably a lot of simmers simply don't want to deal with that kind of scenario (and aspect of combat) and I certainly respect that and should maybe not be something that is default in DCS.
  10. Wenn du glück hast akzeptiert Steam den sogar noch.
  11. Very first sentence of this thread And yet this is such a small thing, I don't believe for a second this would really steal dev time from 'important things'. I bet some frustrated dev would love to take a break an hour from some issue he just can't fix to code this. :) Guys there are big unreasonable features requested here that in no way ever warrant the dev time one would have to use up for them. But that is no reason to jump into every small feature request and blow the 'not worth dev time horn' just because something doesn't rock your boat. Just looks silly for such small features that take up so little dev time and weaken this argument when it actually applies.
  12. Sadly most of my life. :(
  13. About the radar power selector, last two settings 'ON' & 'TX'. Shouldn't ON be TX and instead of ON something like silent? Still loving this mod, I don't want to nitpick here just a bit confused if this is an error or maybe I am missing something with my bad english.
  14. Generally: The change with the infraction system was very good, it is way more transparent now and I feel it works way better than before, or atleast I think people have more chances to 'moderate themselfs' now before ED-mods have to permanently do that. Not sure if that change was in 2016, but the effect was there. And a bit of person(al) change seemed to be good too... Also a torch has to be carried for steam-mod team! While here on ED forums are way more posts(=work), from a DCS-elitist-viewpoint the topics on steamcommunity are way more rage inducing.^^ <3
  15. Very low priority, fluff & UI wish. :) Since we have now a considerable amount of modules and most come with their own theme(sounds) I thought it might be a neat idea to add a option in the 'special/theme'-dropdown menu to select different themes on every start-up. I select a new one from time to time, no biggy. But I thought just having this randomly would be very neat and it has to be said, somebody worked a lot at somepoint for those soundthemes/backgrounds and would be nice to see them more.
  16. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=167780 How so? I have been using it in lates release update. On topic: Great work and I also would like to see PMTC added to this! :)
  17. OP didn't ask about simpleradio etc. but ingame ATC, or rather the radios. I think that is a reasonable request and goes hand in hand with longstanding wish to be able to select ingame which sound device('s) should be used. Right now DCS uses which ever sound device is set to default in the windows sound settings (atleast with my realtek audiochip). If you forgot before launching to set the sound right, you need to restart completely. The support ingame for multiple sound devices I guess would be great for pit builders of any kind.
  18. Will you get some auto message also that alerts a user that one of his posts was deleted? I think the feature might be annoying if really a lot of posts in a thread have been deleted but generally I think it's a nice feature.
  19. Maybe this is rather something for the community to mod, see several HD cockpit textures for a little bit older modules?
  20. With all the hardware crapping out on me, this would give me a break. Haha! :D
  21. Got one better for you, just install the Standalone version OVER your Steam version. Now when you start DCS (via Steam) you will launch the Standalone-version with Steam overlay&playtime tracking. :) The difference between Steam&Standalone DCS is only one .lua file. (It hides module manager for example) Just install your standalone config files over the steam version and you are good to go. Edit: I made this post explaining it a bit more detailed a while ago http://steamcommunity.com/app/223750/discussions/0/364039785161593378/#c364039785162351244 I really hoped I had written down which .lua it was that you had to delete... Sorry about that. If anybody uses that method please try it out and pn it to me if you find it. Thanks in advance! <3 If you are not up to hunting that file, you can just copy over your backed up config folders. (\user&\dcsworld) edit2: Since this keeps coming up I made it into a guide. I think I might have overcomplicated it, as I tend to do... http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=800015938
  22. What is this useless discussion? Who cares about bloody markers?! Sometimes I really dread to open this thread.
  23. He knows that. I saw this feature request a few times already and I am 100% in support. Afaik in all of aviation you get wind in 'bearing from' not in wind to, this is confusing as hell and an option/mod to set this would be great. Same for wind in the briefing I believe.
  24. Actually no, that folder (for 2.0) should like this: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha The DCS.openbeta folder should be for 1.5 OpenBeta branch. You do not need to redownload your installation (not even to be 'safe' I am not sure from what?) after you start the installation for 2.0 with this: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/alpha/ Simply abort when he starts downloading, copy your old 2.0 folder into the new one and start a DCS repair.
  25. Hi, first of all be aware that when you build in and boot with your new SSD (or make a new system on the SSD) your 'hardware profile' for Starforce will change. This will cause your current activations to be lost. To get around this you need to deactivate them on your current OS/Hardware profile. If this sounds like chinese to you, further reading: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/564/#1823177 Secondly it's best to make a backup of your DCS user folder where your config files are stored: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS Now on the new system or SSD you can simply download and install the DCS world setup to create the DCS-Startmenu folder and file structure where you want it. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/ With the startmenu shortcuts created you have access to the repair function and can simply copy your old files over into the new directory and start the repair. DCS should recognize the old files and maybe redownload a few. The user folder shouldn't be touched but if there are problems copy over your backup. edit: Art-J not sure if I misundertand you, to clarify: DCS updater/repair/installer will recognize old DCS installs if the directory is a known installation to the OS or the files are simply in the new install path.
