Just train the normal visual landing and you will be fine. People tend to dislike crashed airplanes on the runway but if it just happens from "time to time" nobody will be angry. Iam flying since ~september and still haven't figured out the ILS stuff, since the missions where you actually need it are quite rare or not that often played public. I have to disagree on easy comms, most public servers have that turned off. (Labels too, external views& fog of war for the F10 map depends on the server) Comms are important when lots of aircraft use the same Airport - nobody likes a head on collision. But it's fairly simple, don't worry! You have 3 Radios below your throttle, from top to bottom: VHF AM Radio - higher frequency for ATC's&Co UHF - I am not even sure for what it is used ingame, maybe someone can clarify? VHF FM - Lower frequencys for JTAC's for example. For now the only thing important for you are the VHF radios: 1. Set the knob on the right to "TR" to turn it on 2. Set the frequency of the ATC you want to contact http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/86362/ Here is a nice .pdf pack - you are looking for the Airfield guide, neat list! 3. Use your Hotas(!) Mic switich for the AM radio to contact the ATC. To clarify, under options, A10 Sim - Hotas controls "Hotas Mic Switch" When you press the Mic switch above the radio menu at the top is written which radio you have selected for example: VHF AM. That's it! Of course don't turn it on when you play singleplayer - just get familiar with the theory so you can use it on public/mp servers. As a new player I strongly suggest that you find some community in your timezone and just get on their comms and fly with them. My expierence is that our community as a whole is VERY noob friendly and like to help out. After flying a bit online I was really angry at myself about all the "wasted" time I spent figuring small quirks and problems out (or reading it up) on my own when I just could have asked a simple question and my problem would have been solved in one sentence. When you get on public servers everyone loves the guy that actually joins their TS - flying with comms in a group is completely different experience and sadly a lot of pubber's don't do it. :( Sorry for my engrish, good luck, have fun and see you online! :thumbup:

I don't want to tell you how to play your games, but please for the love of flightsim's try a joystick! :) I am using this cheap thing http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/tflight-stick-x and have everything like TMS/China etc. with modifiers over the POV hat. TrackIR is wonderful and I can't imagine playing without it ever again. But if I had to decide between 'my precious' and the joystick... Looking around is good, but steering is better. :3 Really hope i am able to convert you here... =)

For me with german keyboard layout the default hotkey doesn't work and for the life of it I can't remember the default hotkeys. :) This comes up atleast once a week. If anyone is looking for this feature to remap it, its under A10C-Sim - General "Rearming and refueling window".

Hi there and welcome to DCS! Just to clarify this, you are flying without a Joystick at all only with Keyboard&Mouse? When I started before buying a TrackIR i just put the in cockpit view on my POV hat without modifiers.

I believe the F10 map is not always correct too, there are some .pdf's with airfield information floating around here that I use for myself that has yet to let me down.

Let's say we live in fantasy land where rainbows shine and everyone is rich and happy. Now EA, Activision/Blizzard or any other big publisher decides to get into flight sims. How long do you think they would need to get that list done on a DCS-like level? Back to reality: I think it is just unreasonable for a small company like ED to get this much work done and still be able to pay the employees. (I am not sure HOW small they are to be honest but that's what I hear often around here) Just how long would you want to wait for that product? And also would that mean that ED finishes products that they can't release till they have "the whole package" done? Not to say that I wouldn't buy one day a full package of everything that ED has released so far. Would be a good gift to get someone who is somehow interested but not dedicated into sims. :) But overall this doesn't look well thought out to me and I dont even have any knowledge about the enonomic side of things. I will leave that to others. :)

I use that Joystick myself and have to say it's fine for DCS. With the feature to set multiple modifiers you can use your POV-hat for nearly anything. http://imgur.com/He2Lq (Example: Button 10&9 + POV Hat = Fwd/AFT China Hat ; 7&9+POV Hat/Button3 = Boat Switch FWD/AFT/CTR etc.) This is an Old setup with a few things changed, but i hope you get the idea. Make a list like that yourself and in a few hours/a day/ a few days depending on how good you remember stuff you will fly like a champ. Before I had Track IR POV Hat without modifiers was just looking around in Cockpit while I had zoom In/Out on a modifier. My only real issue with the Joystick is the small throttle. I like to think with a X52, Hotas or any other joystick that has a "real throttle" stuff like refueling would be much easier. As it is now, my 50% setting is at ~85RPM and if you want to play in the 1mph range you will often find the throttle disagree's and wants go 3mph more. :) But maybe that's just me and my clumsy hands. ^^ Hopefully I could be of some help. Good luck with that solid joystick I have it for 1 or 2 years now and no issues beside the throttle and lacking software. All in all its solid hardware that doesn't seem to break. (I threw it once or twice on the ground too :D)

After you talk back and forth a few times with the JTAC he will send you coordinates on your TAD. They will be red and you just slew your TAD cursor over that and press TMS long or short (or both?) to make it SPI and set your TGP to it (SPI) with ChinaHat up long. No numbers or any other info are really important for you at this stage - only maybe what kind of target it is. I was really confused at the start of my DCS career with JTAC's too. :)

Just wanted to say before anyone wonders, if you get this: http://i.imgur.com/GeKdv.png (The german says plugin couldn't be loaded) You have to deinstall and reinstall TARS completly. Repair function doesn't work. Now plugin seems to be correctly installed. This happenend after I just installed the new version without deinstalling the old.

I heard in the STP TeamSpeak yesterday that it would conflict, but haven't tried it myself yet.

In my expierence: -For Rearm/Refuel engines can be turned on - just canopy has to be open. -For Repairs the Engines need to be turned off and canopy open. - Apu may be on (with APU Gen) in both procedures.

I read something like that about Shadows, that one should turn them on medium or high. Can someone confirm/deny this? Also I have everything on low and still my FPS suck. Is turning on Window mode also bad for FPS? I turned this on because of crashes in MP+Alt Tab. I don't have my specs in my head but it should be Phenom II 940 @3ghz,8GB Ram & ATI 4890 HD. Not sure right now. In the mission Trax Dogfight_V4.9b I went as low as 3fps.. Something is not right here. :) Sorry for engrish.

... even when not read. Hi guys, normally I am used to just click in forums on the "Go to first new post" button on the left side of the threads. But in this forum I have the problem that all post's are marked as read even when I have not read them. First I thought this would be an option that I can turn on/off but sadly I can't find it. Is there a way to set it up so that threads are only marked as read - when I really read them? Thanks for the help in advance, and sorry for possible engrish. Apo

Hab gerade Fullscreen ausgemacht, kein einziger Disconnect mehr und auch keinen crash. Ich hab leider erst hinterher Fraps installiert, weiss jemand ob das FPS einbrüche gibt? Muss gestehen meine FPS sind eigentlich eh so scheisse das ich zwischen leichtem geruckel und leichtem geruckel schwer unterscheiden kann... *hust* Muss dazu auch sagen das ich Zwei Monitore hab, und nur auf dem rechten rum gepfuscht habe und das game nicht komplett minimiert habe. Vielleicht macht das ja auch noch einen unterschied.

Lol no, most people were like "can't install this shit!" only one of them sounds like he didn't try to install from CD. (Maybe we should make a bit more effort to explain to people only to use the CD-key from box and use DCS:World) But this one guy... Well, see for yourself: "ok it supposedly loaded, but on trying to run it, it insisted "press pause/break to start". My keyboard (& likely yours) does not include those particular keys. The customer 'support' is from Rumania. The loading-interface is most impressive. But this is truly the most frustrating software i've ever dealt with in the last 40yrs." One guy sums it up "WOW! Wie schaut es denn aus, wenn ich auf den Desktop tabbe und zurück ins Spielkomme. Ich habe vor dem Patch und nach dem Patch ständig Disconnect's vom Server. Auch den ein oder anderen CTD, aber der Disconnect vom Server in's Multiplayer menü ist Programm. Habt ihr das auch, oder liegt es an mir?

I just deinstalled the game and reinstalled it, after that my old keybindings / joystick bindings were still working. Should I have deleted the old folder? Can I expect problems?

Those guy's with the FPS problems, did you try to lower the settings aswell? I play on pretty low settings and haven't really noticed the "big drop" that you guy's describe.
