  1. Anything up to 300 is fine, this ain't an fpshooter.
  2. I'm sure you know this isn't a bug but how Jammers have always worked in DCS. ECM has always been an after thought, hopefully one day they'll look into a new model but for now lets get some decent missiles onboard first.
  3. Could it have something to do with not registering landings.

    F5 or mig 21 ?

Probably more to do with how easy it is to fly the F-5. Literally pick up and play like a pro immediately. Same with all aircraft here, F-86, MiG-15, they're all really easy to jump in and fly circles care free. I don't really want to get into the soup as to why that is but it's very apparent. Compared to the 21 which requires you to be on top of your game to avoid the pitfalls.
  5. The dash is the bar beneath the number, it means that is the length of 5km or whatever number is showing on the current setting for the HDD.
  6. Yes, +/-1000m your altitude at the expected target range. eg. Your altitude = 4000m, expected target range =10km, elevation = +1 Radar centre line angles to a point in the sky, from your nose to 5000m @ 10km from you.
  7. If you ever see a high bandit then that is the biggest threat but also the most juiciest because it is tougher for them to defend. So if you're high in a Flanker with no ECM you might as well ask for some AMRAAM attention. The difference between hiding up high and hiding down low is you can escape from high where as an F-15 will chase you down with ease when you're trying to hide down low. Most of the best Eagle pilots tend to use altitude, this is to benefit their aircraft performance and missiles as well as utilise their SA tools, Radar and TEWS. You won't find these guys while you sneak in the valleys but you can guarantee they'll find you. You can BVR against Eagles and make 30km kill shots, it requires knowing how to defeat low energy AMRAAMS and keeping energy high. But in 1v1 it is more of a fight to the death for the Flanker while the Eagle has a reset option. I've flown plenty of 2v2s and the Eagles do dominate but it's possible to make it work when all the stars align, no mistakes. Unfortunately BVR in the F-15 is a lot more forgiving.
  8. I've sneaked upon and killed plenty of F-15 foes thanks to ECM, here you won't need extra archers. But extra archers are great also, there is no defintive way to fight Eagles, just be thankful for options.
  9. AIM-120 has a low smoke motor and propellant, it stands to reason that it should be harder to spot. I don't know if you're talking about the latest patch being different but I know previously there was a very faint line which is probably being lost with resolution/range etc. Videos point to some 120's having very visible smoke, but is this there for live fire practice purposes? If not, having a dynamic contrail like aircraft would be great. I don't know exactly but aluminium is used in propellants for ISP this isn't used in a low smoke propellant, how this affects the 120 i'm not sure and whether it is an alternative propellant.
  10. Lot of missiles smoking here, AIM-7 and AIM-120 but then again some AIM-120 with very little smoke. One thing is sure, R-27 smokes a lot.
  11. Simpler physics yes, but not zero physics like you said, SFM stands for standard, there are still realistic parameters being met. The physics (rule set) don't allow them to do things outside of limits while flying, so not an advantage more of a hindrance.
  12. I think air starts promote airquake and lone flying. To get away from airquake, flights need to be grouped and more organised, this is only really going to happen from a ground start. Creating a bonus or reward for flying as a flight (eg.making so many kills within 5nm of the same pilot) would be great, incorporating that into your server/mission is the head scratcher.

    530D's range

They're both wrong if they bring different ideas on missile behaviour into the same simulator. One dev err on the side of caution with its parameters while the other goes all out, this just creates a lost muddled simulator.

    530D's range

Seems everyone can question EDs missiles even though they've been doing this for 20 years but to question a 3rd party developers missiles when something doesn't add up is blasphemy. In what world would it make sense to have your missile travelling at 2.5 mach run out of battery life.

    530D's range

I don't see any facts about battery life, I have already stated the range is irrelevant but the fact the missile still has plenty of energy at 60km seems wrong.

    530D's range

That is not a source, i'm just quoting others words from the internet too. General belief was 60 seconds for AIM-7 etc. it just doesn'take sense to me for a missile to be performing so well at 60km why cut it short over the matter of not enough battery life, surely if the missile did perform this well they'd increase battery performance to gain the extra range.

    530D's range

That is fair enough the range according to different sources can be anywhere up to 60km but for the 530D to reach 60km in DCS it still has 2.5 mach of speed, the figure pulled out of the air for self destruct is 45 seconds about the same as a manpad rather than a MRM, this stops it being an +80km missile in game. What i'm saying is that the missile is carrying too much energy in flight, the drag is not effective enough, if it was the missile with a more believable 60 second timer would travel to 40-60km just fine albeit not so fast.

    530D's range

Missile achieves a kill from almost 60km only supposed battery life stops it exceeding this range as it still has plenty more energy travelling at 2.5 mach. Maybe if you stopped playing airquake in the valleys you might learn something. Tacview-20161227-010700-DCS.txt.rar

    530D's range

Zeus states here that the real 530D has a range of 40km at and above 40,000ft. He also stated that EDs version performed well but it seems due to complaints RB made their own which now strangely has a 60km range. Not to mention a 45 sec battery time to negate the lack of drag this new missile has which should possibly be more like 60sec akin to older generation missile batteries. Seems to me RB wanted to make this missile the fastest and most chaff resistant SARH missile in DCS regardless of figures to make it more competitive with FC3 aircraft. This is not a bug but a feature.

    530D's range

This 530D hits targets at 30nm, it's only that RB have put a self destruct timer after 45sec that this missile doesn't push past +35nm such is its energy.
  21. This isn't correct there is a standard flight model NOT simple fight model. This does take physics into account as well as aircraft parameters albeit at a limited level. Professional flight model PFM is EDs cutting edge advanced flight model meaning as detailed a flight model that has been attempted within DCS by ED. That is not to say that a 3rd party dev couldn't create a superior FM one day. System modelling is a separate part of DCS, this includes Standard system SSM (FC3), and Advanced system ASM (DCS). Note the exclusion of simple.
  22. It's not a trick specific against Mirages, many players spend most of their time in the weeds hence they scan low and so does everybody else looking for them. Scanning high is quite alien to a lot online so a lot goes missing. The trouble you're probably having is elevating too high, just a slight degree change is needed, use your TDC altitude at the expected range for maximum effect.
  23. What is so confusing in the fact that third parties make their own FM which is expected to meet a certain high standard. How can you define a third parties FM otherwise, all you really need to know as a customer is that this is not an ED product but it is ED approved The fact ED name their FM PFM while every other flight sim uses the definition AFM. Third parties make AFM, ED make AFM yet ED call there own FM PFM. That is all. If still confused then just accept that it is all AFM. Whether one dev makes a better one than another is really irrelevant to any of this naming business. PFM= EDs AFM EFM= 3P AFM What is so confusing?
  24. EDs products carry their own PFM brand. If you buy a third party product it has the label EFM which is the 3rd parties version of AFM, they will outline how good this is in their pitch and ED have stated the expectancy to achieve this label, it is then up to you whether you purchase it or not. There should be no expectation that this is going to be as advanced modeling as EDs PFM and why should it, they're not the same devs. No confusion.
  25. Stealth is a concept put into the design of an aircraft through reduction of radar reflection, IR, emissions etc. it is not just about radar alone. Stealth aircraft use this concept, if they don't then they are non stealth.
