  1. MiG-29 ? SU-27 ? :)
  2. OK, it seems that is obvious what community want (it's not in my personal top two priorities but it's definitely one of the essentials). Dynamic Campaign System. If you decide to go that route, please consider developing Dynamic Campaign system as a totally independent server application which could run on network (LAN or internet) 24/7. It should be developed with multi-threading in mind from start. Basically we need dynamic combat simulating supercomputer, running somewhere on network in background, injecting real time data into DCS clients connected to it. That would relieve DCS from horrendously demanding task of computing dynamic battle outcomes. I'm talking about computer system which is already in place in all top militaries around the World for aiding decision making of General Staff! :) Go for it!
  3. I voted other, because I think that these two are ESSENTIAL for the future of the DCS: - 4th generation fighters (DCS F16 AND DCS MIG 29, released simultaneously) - New and improved air traffic control system (which sucks big time at the moment killing immersion totally) Dynamic campaign would be nice too, but these two are at the top of my priorities.
  4. This. You cannot directly compare machines designed for hugely different military doctrine. Sort of comparing apples to oranges. Every aircraft has to fit its designed role which in turn has to fit current military doctrine. That is how it's done in first class air forces. Both A-10 and SU-25 fit their respective air force doctrines PERFECTLY!
  5. Start with official version - 1.2 NOT beta. You will need 1.2 installation anyway (you can't update beta to final, only to new beta) when 1.5 beta hit release version. Beta is meant for, well, beta testing! :) It's optional, and not recommended for someone just starting out on any platform / software. Yes, most of us are willing to beta test, but then we have been around DCS for a long time. And you really need proper training offline to enjoy DCS online so the fact that most of us are now on 1.5 online, is irrelevant in your case. If you are on decent PC, you will not see much difference as a beginner, except some eye candy in 1.5. So, download 1.2 (remember - you'll need it later) and start with SU 25T. It's free, comes with really good tutorial and has simplified cockpit - just what you need in first couple of weeks or months in DCS. Search for DCS content on youtube. Then, if you decide to dig in deeply, you will know what module you need. Some hardware necessities, beside PC are: -Proper joystick - I would say Saitek X52 is the bare minimum for experiencing DCS fully. -Head tracking of some sort - most of us are owners of TrackIR And most important - have fun! :pilotfly: Don't take it too seriously, which most of us do :D:D
  6. Either that or MiG-29M (9.15) would be ideal. However, I doubt that anything properly simulated above 4th generation (read glass cockpit in Russian jets) would be easy to get FSB clearance for. And then they would have to deal with Sukhoi and MiG design bureaus and every single company under contract which makes airplane's internal systems. The problem is primarily bureaucratic, not technical.
  7. I've tried to reproduce this, but couldn't. Tested with A10C maverick training mission. - solid 60FPS throughout, no matter 65D or 65H. i5-4670K@4.4, GTX770 2GB VRAM @1920x1200, 8GB RAM, Win 7 DCS settings: everything on HIGH, except Civ Traffic and Depth of Field OFF. 512 display resolution, 8x MSAA and 16X AF. Running no tree shadows mod, full screen (alt+enter), capped to 60fps in autoexec.cfg. and adaptive vsync in nVidia inspector.
  8. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2487387&postcount=2 From the change log: Engine model is changed and should be more realistic. ... There you go.
  9. Well, they've put NATO insignia all over the place in DCS, and that is offending for at least 3/4 of the planet - certainly country I am from. :D Reality and history should not be censored.
  10. I'm capped to 60 FPS, both in autoexec.cfg and adaptive sync in NVidia CP, and have solid 60 FPS (couple of dips in to 55-57 range when GPU is switching textures as my beta installation is not on SSD) throughout the track you've posted, with max GPU utilization of 52% running Mustang no tree shadows mod, depth of field and civ traffic off, everything else on HIGH with MSAA at 8x, and Anisotropic Filtering at 16x. Smooth! And my system is far, far away from high end - it is even under recommended spec level for DCS 1.5 (GTX780 or better, 16GB RAM): I5-4670K @ 4.4, GTX 770 2GB @ 1920x1200 and 8GB RAM I know that you don't want to hear this, but your GPU is a little bit on the weak side. 660M chipset is not going to cut it in DCS 1.5(2.0), if smooth game play at decent eye candy level is desired.
  11. We don't have any other choice at the moment and probably will never have. Basically, if ED goes out of business, combat flight simmers are screwed for good. It's that serious. So, show some faith people ... I have a lot to complain about, but this is not Microsoft, Sony and EA and I try to keep my rants in private circles! :D
  12. In the end, it all boils down to money. It doesn't have anything to do with reality. Fact 1: The biggest market for ED is English speaking market, by far. Fact 2: English speaking countries don't like their movies and other entertainment with subtitles. So, you have funny situation - for example - Russian cockpits in English, which is now taken for granted in flight sim community! :D Ah well ... I support whatever keeps ED afloat!
  13. True. But ... you have to learn the language, or you don't participate at all (or work, live ... etc). Or fly with army where you do understand officer in charge. That's realistic. Simple as that :D
  14. I was obviously referring to simple installation without Command Prompt ("after you download 1.5 and install it"). I doubt that someone who is comfortable using console for upgrading install, would have problems of such kind! ;)
  15. You cannot update 1.2 to 1.5. Second, after you download 1.5 and install it, you should have TWO completely independent installations - 1.2.xx in "DCS World" folder and the 1.5 beta in "DCS World OpenBeta" folder. All your shortcuts for 1.2 should point to "DCS folder" and work independently of Beta (1.5 shortcut should point to "DCS World OpenBeta" folder). It seems that somehow you've managed to corrupt your 1.2 installation, probably by trying to install 1.5 Beta over 1.2 in the same folder. I would try to uninstall everything and start from scratch.
  16. It's not. It just takes time to fix it properly. Memory leak usually means rewriting sizable chunk of code which in turn can generate further bugs, and so on. They'll sort it out eventually.
  17. This means couple of decades of classified status on complete aircraft and guarantee that FSB would not be too happy to see someone releasing sensitive hi-tech information to general public ... ;) So, SU-33 is the only realistic proposal for Russian DCS naval multirole fighter, especially now as it is being replaced by MiG-29K.
  18. So far, universal FPS killers (except on high end GPUs - 980 class and above) are 1) Tree shadows 2) Civ traffic 3) Depth of Field (only relevant in external view) And 2GB VRAM is REQUIRED ... I would say GTX 770 2GB class and similar is realistic minimum power required for decent experience in 1080p or 1200p (everything on HIGH except civ traffic, running no tree shadows mod - until we get back option to switch them off :D ), especially if using track IR where panning smoothness begins at 60 FPS+. And with Nevada map, that 2GB VRAM would probably be a serious bottleneck. This is my personal experience with 1.5 (I5 @ 4.4, GTX770 2GB) and experience of lot of the other people with similarly powered systems ...
  19. Not enough declassified info on that one to make it in to full DCS module for many years to come. Too new. On the other hand there is plethora of little older excellent Russian jets which could make in to great DCS module - SU-24, SU-27, Mig-29 ... It is really sad situation that Russian company doesn't have full DCS module of Russian made multi role fighter ... :( However, given current World affairs, global interest in Russian jets is going to soar - so, the financial feasibility is definitely solid.
  20. Yep, confirmed here as well. Severe drop - 15 FPS (from rock solid 60 FPS elsewhere) near ground troops. I5 4670K @ 4.4, 8GB RAM, GTX 770 2GB VRAM. EDIT: Civilian Traffic is the reason - switching it to off or low and it's smooth again ...
  21. DCS is limited to 120 FPS out of the box (maxfps = 120; in graphics.lua - do not edit it here, create autoexec.cfg instead). For you out there with monster GPU setups, this is easily achievable at maxed out settings and in turn result in GPU being under 100% load most of the time. Go to your C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config folder, create plain text file named autoexec.cfg in notepad or something, containing following line: options.graphics.maxfps = 500; Try it now and enjoy 80-100% GPU load! Free heating included! :D When you are finished enjoying 100% load, and done with wasting power heating up the room (every FPS above monitor refresh rate is wasted energy), bring back maxfps to something sensible - refreshing rate of your monitor, for example.
  22. Disable Tree Shadows option is all that's needed for majority of users with previous gen GPUs. Either that, or No Tree Shadows mod. Yeah, I know it's beta and that we shouldn't mod it, but it's obvious that medium spec systems are going to struggle with shadows.
  23. I've tried all other suggestions and tweaks, including capping, but no joy - capping indeed helps somewhat, but it was not "1.2" smooth without further tweaks. Only thing that helped in my case is No Tree Shadows Mod and Vsync ON in game which keeps FPS fixed at 60FPS constantly @ High settings. Tree shadows are performance hog and getting rid of them is small price to pay in eye candy department. We need option to switch them off in settings menu. It's again smooth as it was in 1.2! Rig: I5 4670K @ 4.4, 8GB RAM and GTX 770 2GB @ 1920x1200, 60Hz
  24. To cut the long story short - stutter free and smooth performance in 1.5 is unfortunately only possible running elevated frame rates. If your system can constantly keep the FPS well above your monitor refresh rate, you are happy camper. Most systems don't. For the majority of users that means one of the three things: crippled graphics settings, annoying tearing or much less smoothness in comparison with 1.2 at the same frame rate. There is no free lunch, after all ...
