Two weeks ago on Berlin Backers event Pimax confirm how they are working on software support to make available 4K native resolution per eye but the limit will be 60 and 72 Hz. A major goal is to be able watching movies but in my opinion should be good even for game playing too. Previous experience with DCS on Pimax4K was more or less positive. the 4K model problem was ghosting and not that much fact they were working on 60Hz. Ghosting comes from bad input lag and general picture refresh in Pimax4K display who work on HMDI 1.4. This hardware in Pimax8K is now much better and capable to work in 4K native resolution on 60Hz without ghosting. So we could expect in near future this 4K native resolution will be unlocked but as it is working on only one DP they can't run higher than 60 and 72Hz. Pimax8KX will be a future model who coming later with native 4K per eye on 90Hz but will using different electronics and will have dual DP connection to achieve that performance. So we have a potentially same level of clarity as a 5K model but in 4K native resolution. That is why I will wait a little bit more with that decision 5K or 8K model. In the worst case will be great to watch porn in 4K.

This video proving point and possibility. Come on DEVS and any other capable to help within this project. Join in here on this thread and participate at least by showing interest and support. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=218484&page=2 Thanks.

Nice work Berserk. Will be good if some more people join and help with this. It is obvious that this is possible to be done. We just need more support from the community. I come from the ArmA community where modding is a way of using the game. People doing miracles but here on DCS comunity... I didn't see more inert community than here. Come one people move your self and join in the effort. This could be something beautiful.

Vulcan as a miracle solution? I don't know. In essence, not much increase but the question here is SLI/CF. Vulcan announced better SLI/CF performance and utilization especially for VR where will be possible usage GPU per eye. Question is is this done by Vulcan automatically or should be implemented in any game separately by game developers. Anyway DCS and its hardware hunger needs proper SLI/CF support no matter on VR. This will open proper VR and 4K performances bust. But this is another theme to discuss.

There is one more thing to take in consideration. Real 4K resolution per eye as native res on 60Hz. This will increase clarity on 8K as native resolution works best for displays and need less SS. So 8K could reach even better clarity and 60Hz will not be a problem in DCS. Pimax4K shows that. He didn't have the problem with 60Hz, the problem was input lag which creates ghosting and that was a major problem on Pimax4K model. With Brain warp, even 30FPS will be playable in that case.

... also, just to add, this is without ASW. Similar was with Samsung Odyssey before ASW start working. Pimax ASW equivalent called Brainwarp is still not in function so have that in mind. This could be fixed soon, even before the official release market in Q1 2019. There is one more thing if we compare performance Vive PRO/Odyssey and Pimax5K/8K there is not much of the difference in hardware consumption. One other other important aspects that, with all my respect to Swevivers work, he is not dedicated DCS player and start to play it on community request more than on his personal preferences. Simply he just didn't have experience and time to go diapering exploring and find a best possible set up wherein DCS every frame is important because it is on edge. More details about Pimax8K I'm expecting from real dedicated DCS players and we have here on forums few backers who just wait to receive their HMD. The only question is which to chose 5K who offer more clarity with more for better instruments and HUD reading but with higher SDE or 8K for better target spotting in distance and lower SDE. We will see soon.

It is. I didn't watch it yet as well but just because it is 2 and a half hour long review.

You are right they are not only one. But should we wait passively or actively? I'm trying to be constructive here, even with all my critics always made some point and even, in this case, show that this goal is achievable with little effort. So I'm expecting from you to join me and support not oppose here. We are customers here so we are that one who should have a request, not an opposite.

? I don't know did you properly follow what I'm talking about? Did you check the link on other thread with an example it is posible. I'm talking in general not just CG. Yes, you are right I'm expecting from such device for 500$ to have haptic feedback in fingers. But for functionalities is not necessary. If you read that other thread and watch videos you got a visual highlight on switches so you will know when you can interact with it and how. Get more familiar with this and than try to join in the further discussion. That what I'm suggesting is not 100% real but is the best as possible get and for the lowest cost possible. So will be for everyone's budget. And if you can afford 500$ for physical sense in fingers let it be. But then this 500$ has its purpose and sense even if the price is that high. But those who can't afford it will have less priced but less realistic alternative. Right now we don't have anything and CG is a just expensive dust collector.

Here is the playlist with peoples impressions from Berlin Backer event.
-
This is just usual Ngreedia staff. You have to pay 50% more for 30% better performance no matter which card you buying. Here with RTX 20xx series they just demand even more and all this for technology built in DX. This is similar like it was with Phisyx in the past.
-
With WMR who is on sale for 200$ just one huge and simple, NO.
-
Impressions from Berlin says from all backers who try it for the first time that both VR's have higher clarity even compared to Odyssey and Vive PRO. This difference is not big but noticeable and goes in favor of Pimax. When we add fact that sweet spot is larger than complete Vive, Rift and WMR Field of view and that that is huge diference. Ad to this better specially made lenses for Pimax8K with significantly less Good rays we already have the winner in the aspects which we can compare. And now major difference and something that Vive, Rift, and WMR can't compare at all. That is 170 FOV. It is clear this is next gen VR which will raise the bar for other competitors. Good times coming for VR users definitely.
-
You should go for RTX 2080ti. To see a reflection of HUD in the eyes of the Pilot you are trying to shot down with AMRAM, priceless.
-
No, I don't get you wrong but 2D option is functional, generally speaking. So put our focus out of it now. And don't expect CG implementation will do some miraculous. Simply CG needs some improvements and I called them to join here in this our efforts. I'm highly critical but my critics are a constructive one, in the way to make things better in the way CG and ED could benefit as well but anybody else too. Only if that is the problem for them. I made the point here, post some solutions and direction how this could and should work so I'm appealing on ED, CG and any other interested sides to join and help us end users of their software or hardware. The solution is actually simple and durable so please respect those who buy your products and do something for your customer's pleas.

Referring to my previous post want to mention something else what is related to it. In Berlin, I noticed some details and of course SweViver didn't and couldn't comment because NDA which will be lifted after 15th September. There were some assumptions which were not based on common sense so it is questionable. A major question is 5K vs 8K. A major wrong assumption what could be affecting DCS is hardware demand for running 5K and 8K. There was some claim that 5K will be less demanding with Hardware. That is simply not true because native resolution for 5K and 8K is the same so hardware demand is the same because your rig will put out an exactly same resolution. So the difference is in displays and some details but not in Hardware demand. So 5K have better and more vivid colors with confirmed full RGB subpixels 4:4:4 chroma support but lower PPI what increasing SDE impression. On the other hand, 8K have 4Kpanels but 1440p per eye, same as 5K display native. So 8K native input will be the same as 5K, 1440p per eye, but similar as4K TV will upscaling picture to 4K and that is not affecting on your computer hardware resources. As with better panel and higher PPI 8K definitely have some advantages especially less noticeable SDE definitely. I could not confirm that so don't take this my personal assumption and if someone could confirm that or correct please do that. I'm not sure did 8K have full RGB 4:4:4 chroma support. Some logic says that that could be the reason for some speculation why 5K has a better impression for some people. But could be just something else as well. So to chose 5K+ or 8K is a more personal subjective decision and depend more on personal preferences. So that why we need more and detailed public testing and results same as confirmed final specs to make such a decision.
-
Not exactly. It is true that Sweviveris only one with YT channel who playing DCS but he is not a real genuine DCS player. He starts to play it because of Pimax8K and people request for it so maybe his level of details will not be good for us dedicated DCS players. I will take his DCS review with the grain of salt. Not necessary will be bad, it could be perfect in the end but I don't want to depend on just one person no matter how good he is. For now, personally, I'm collecting whole information and impressions from all these persons published on Swevivers videos from Berlin. Of course, we need real detailed reviews and comparison, not just first impressions. And for that general comparison could be good to get a proper picture and from our experience with previous VR devices, we could get a decision for our self is it good for me or not because VR in general highly depends on personal subjective impression more than anything else.
-
I'm not sure about that what people saying about 5K+ and 8K difference. Maybe little better colors but definitely it is not effecting on hardware demand for running because native resolution is the same. That simply could not be true. An only real difference could be in more colorful with 5K+ but less SDE with 8K. This issue needs more detailed test and comparison and for that, we should wait till September 16th when on MRTV will be published this detailed comparison and review.

Is this thread about using hands inside a cockpit with Captoglove? I think buying Captoglove for 500$ to use it just as a mouse is a nonsense. So if we are talking about full immersion here one of the first thing and easiest one almost free is to aligning your hotas with the stick inside your virtual cockpit in game. If you using it on the table it is nothing wrong with it but it is breaking immersion and you are aware of it. For finding something else to use it instead of the mouse just simple EDtracker will be good for it. Map EDtracker as a virtual joystick and add on your hotas two buttons for left and right mouse button and that's it. you have this for just a few $. You don't need 500$ Captoglove for VR 2D mouse. Your demand for immersion are minimal and easy solved, just use some imagination and combine already existing and proven workable methods. And that's it. No hard feelings, but here most of us want some more immersive solutions.
-
We don't want to simulate the mouse, the point is to use your hands inside the cockpit as you are in one. Yes, it is virtual but for the user who is immersed, it is real. So you want to use your hands as much as really possible. Otherwise, we don't need anything than the mouse itself. Or head tracking pointer as mouse reference but this is breaking immersion and put you back in reality. What is the point to have VRgloves to use it as the mouse? We don't talk about mouse here. FO with a mouse.

Yes. That is the problem. That is why I'm expecting some standardization with this VR controllers. Right now only Touch working but not Vive or any other SteamVR standard controller. The steamVr controller standard will make all these gloves or hand tracking devices work as simple VR controllers as default. That way ED will minimize work on hands usage in the cockpit. I don't know why ED is complicating this issue when should be simple. For decent and intuitive natural hands interaction we just need two things. 6DoF hands tracking and just one interaction button which will allow interacting with buttons or switches in cockpit. Just simple hold/push release function. Is it that complicated? Prove of a concept is in a third party mod called Virtual Button Box. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=218484 Check this thread and join to discussing. My intention is not forceLeapmotion, just an opposite. This mode should be usable with any other controller even Captoglove or any other glove hand tracking in combination with this mode. This should help VRgloves and ED developers to see what DCS users need. So this is an invitation to all interested sides to reach a mutual goal, natural intuitive hands usage.
-
Exactly. There is no doubt great potential but right now Noone knows how this is a function in real gaming environment compared to Pimax8K. StarVR One have lower specs in PPD than Pimax8K but Optics is much better who compensate for it. But we don't know anything before real user testing. I'm expecting StarVR One will reach consumer version but not before 2020.
