  1. That's essentially what we already had before shifting to a 6-week patch cycle, which was only practiced for two or three patch cycles before this planned one which was at a 4-week interval. I seem to remember we used to have a bimonthly patch cycle, which then changed to monthly, which then changed to 6-weeks, but my memory on that is fuzzy.
  2. Except for the latter half of the PTO the Japanese didn't have any good pilots. Instead of rotating the good ones out to train new ones, the Japanese military kept throwing them into the fray until they were all dead. This combined with Japan's traditional education style of "don't think for yourself, do exactly as you're taught," the majority of Japanese pilots had no knowledge or experience in tactical employment.
  3. If there isn't already, it would be nice to control Jester's helmet config in terms of visor down or sunglasses. In most cases I want both pilots to have visor down, but Jester stubbornly refuses to lower his visor. Perhaps have him copy the pilot's choice, or default to visor down during daylight/visor up during night.
  4. Testing out a JASDF weapons mod to put the AAM-3 on the F-4E and everything works, except when firing the missile the rail and missile go flying off. Anyone know the potential cause and/or fix to this?
  5. "Swear" words aren't even categorized as "taking the Lord's name in vain" if you actually read the Bible. Using God's name to preach incorrect gospel, however, is. Which doesn't even matter, because we live in a real world where real people use such language all the time. Anyone who thinks kids/teens shouldn't be exposed to this is abusive and lazy, as kids/teens will eventually encounter it anyway and need to be taught early on that perhaps they shouldn't use such language in specific contexts for specific, non-religious reasons (like professionalism, etc.), but other people do use such language as a personal choice.
  6. I did read it. Either you did not, or you failed to understand my question. Nowhere can I find an explanation of which of the two rearm menu settings--loft or direct--to use with the LABS/WRCS knob set to AGM-45.
  7. WCRS Setting Rearm Menu Setting DIRECT DIRECT LOFT LOFT AGM-45 ?????????????????? Not enough explanation of how this interacts with the rearm menu setting. Primarily: 1. What rearm menu setting do we use for the "AGM-45" delivery? 2. Does Direct/Loft in the rearm menu have to match the selected delivery on the WCRS, or can you still do a loft with the rearm menu set to direct?
  8. This is why slinging a Fox 3 into a furball with friendlies is advised against as standard SOP. Once the AMRAAM's seeker goes active, it locks onto the first thing it sees within the area your FCR datalink told it to go to.
  9. AIM-7F works just fine for me. Jester picks up the contacts, context button long-press to lock, shoot cue when within parameters.
  10. What kind of crosswinds are you guys flying with? With real weather (typically 7~9kts, sometimes slight crosswind) I have no need for either NWS or differential breaking on the TO roll. She's very stable on centerline. Probably the most stable of any of my modules on the takeoff roll.
  11. Adding useful information others may not have found. I was experiencing some large "errors" running at realistic weather settings for NTTR and did some investigating, and learned a bit about altimeters in the process. Temperature effect on altimeter settings is roughly thus: 4ft x (difference in temp from ISA) x (indicated altitude notated as 1.xx for 1,xxx ft) For example, on a 43C day my altimeter reads 1,690ft. So: 4ft x (43 - 15) x 1.69 = 189ft Add 189ft to my indicated altitude of 1,690ft and I get 1,879ft, which is within FAA +/-75ft tolerance. Now on a 0C day, my altimeter reads 1,950ft. So: 4ft (0 - 15) x 1.95 = -117ft Subtract 117ft from my indicated altitude of 1,950ft and I get 1,833ft, which again is within FAA tolerance. Note that if you set mission temp to 15C, the altimeters are accurate to within +/-10ft, so the QFF issue may have been resolved.
  12. IIRC from military pilot accounts the US military does not use transition layer procedures in combat. However the true altitude AI is still an issue anyway. I've had tankers 1,500ft off their assigned altitude when injecting real weather into missions because local QNH is 29.72 or some such.
  13. I haven't had the auto-pre-contact function at all. I always have to use the keyboard hotkey myself. I also noticed the tanker doesn't have an "abort refuel" command in the comms tree anymore either, so once a client is off the boom--either self disconnect or transfer complete--the tanker gets stuck and won't let anyone else on unless the last client to use it calls "intent to refuel" again, then cancels. Could be a global DCS issue.
  14. I have the following configs depicted in a book about the EJ/Kai (published 2005). A2A configs from left to right: QRA, CAP, Full load, Aerial gunnery (towed target), ACM training (though typically they only loaded one captive missile). A2G configs from left to right: ASM, rockets, bombs (note MERs on inboard pylons), bombs/self-escort. Not depicted is the standard RF-4EJ load, which is two wing tanks, ALQ-131 on left inboard pylon, sidewinder rails removed from both pylons, LOROP pod centerline.
  15. I'm trying to dig further into the EJ's usage but most Japanese sources I find are quite shallow, not going into the details of missile/bomb variants that would have or could have been used. So far all I've found out are: -Neither EJ or EJ Kai had AAR capability -EJ did not have A2G capability, as it was part of the Kai upgrade -EJ did not have a gun -AIM-9L and AIM-7F were primary EJ Kai A2A weaponry (ignoring AAM-x as we don't have those in DCS) -Mk82 LDGP, CBU-87, and FFAR were available for EJ Kai A2G weaponry (ignoring ASM-x and GCS-x as we don't have those in DCS) -Centerline "High-G" tank most commonly used What I would like to know: -Did EJ use AIM-9B (or earlier variants) and AIM-7E or E-2? Or did it use the later -9L and -7F? -Does Japan use variants of the Mk82, like Snakeye or AIR? -Does Japan use other Mk80 series bombs, like the -81, -83, and -84? -What is the "High-G" tank, and how is it different than the "Sargent Fletcher" tank we have in DCS?
  16. I've been using DT without touching the Jester bombing notes at all. CBU-52 tend to hit slightly short for me. I correct by putting the bottom outer ring of the pipper on the target with about a 30-degree dive.
  17. Dark gray version of the RF-4EJ scheme would be nice to have as well. Essentially the same colors, just replace the tan with what appears to be sort of dark ghost gray.
  18. It's not drama, it's hardware. We don't have Phantom sticks at home.
  19. TO -1 charts, but you'll be flying off the AoA indexer anyways.
  20. Tracks were fixed nearly a year ago. However if AI are involved things won't go as planned.
  21. On my system Kola is more demanding than Marianas. I get 10-15fps less in VR n the ramp at Bodo—looking towards ocean and distant mountains—in the F-4 vs. on the ramp at Andersen—looking towards thick forest.
  22. A toggle option like what the A-4 mod has in Special Options would be nice. Press and hold is starting to cause carpal-tunnel-like pain in my stick hand.
  23. Requiring more money invested in hardware that some people may not even be able to use (buttkicker is out for me because floor vibrations will disturb apartment neighbors downstairs) isn't a reasonable solution to something that could be coded in the software.
  24. Axes are calibrated. It's a hardware issue.
