  1. I`m looking at this, a Buttkicker, or a DIY with pucks as I have a home-built chair (car seat and wood on casters). I`m pretty concerned though with the comfort of this as every review I see mentions how uncomfortable it is. Is it just because you can feel the motors in your back, or is it just stiff overall
  2. Thanks. I don't know what any of that means, but I'll figure it out Do I maybe not need 4? I'm still trying to figure out what the benefit is of the 'Buttkicker' over something like this, which is 1/3 the price? Just because it's not DIY, or does it provide a 3 times better experience or something? I do get that it comes with it's own amp. I don't see any Dayton SA80 amp? Is this an old model or something? All I seem to have readily available here (Canada) is the FOSI amps.
  3. I'm actually looking at doing this as I have a DIY built rig made from wood with a car seat. I was thinking of this 4 pack and an amp, but I don't know what amp to use? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0073IXASQ/?coliid=I34IC4IV24SBQC&colid=1IOI7O3P1NZ4U&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
  4. I can't really understand some of what you're saying here because your english isn't great, but playing at 4K and VR is a TINY (read: extremely small) niche thing that only people who spend a LOT of time sitting in front of their PC would want to spend all that money on. I put in my original post that I was non-VR at 1440p, I never asked for VR 4K data. MY idea of spending thousands of dollars to play a single game is MY definition of a waste of money that could be much better spent on other things (i.e. outdoor activities and/or a video card upgrade when I NEED one). What I will do is post some actual in-game (DCS) performance gains at 1440p if and when I ever put a 'better' CPU in my system. 3D Mark scores and synthetic benchmark numbers aren't much use to me as they rarely represent in-game performance.
  5. Call me a noob, but by 'free module pack' does that mean it's an official release in the store, or in the files section?
  6. I just bought an 11.6" screen and mounted it on an adjustable arm so I can swing it out of the way when not in use, and to get it a lot closer when I am using them. It works good, I just velcroed then to the edges of the screen.
  7. Thanks, but there's no way I'll be spending an additional almost $500 CAD for new RAM to gain such a small amount of performance at 1440p. Yours and my idea of 'well worth the investment' must be very different . I'll put that towards a 4070 or 4070ti (or AMD-equivalent) instead.
  8. You have to install it separately if you don't have it installed already. The other option is just to wait until the stable version is updated to 2.8.1.
  9. When ED are selling the campaigns with the FULL PRICE module, of course they should be maintaining said campaigns. How is this hard to comprehend? Users should not have to 'fix' stock campaigns that are included with a module
  10. Thanks. It is handling it, but I was just thinking long-term, get the fastest CPU brand new now, and not have to upgrade anything but my GPU for 10 years or so. It's hard to tell from the overly-exuberant reviews on Newegg from many who probably think they're seeing a big improvement, but really aren't, unless they're upgrading from a 1600 or older 4690k. I don't care about the overall FPS, as it hits over 100 quite a bit, but more for the 1% lows, and if the 5800X3D would smooth out the experience down-low because I mostly fly helos.
  11. I have a new 5800X3D on hold at Memory Express here for $429 CAD ($320 USD). I do have to eventually upgrade or get a new system so I can hand mine down to my sons (older one would give the younger one his 3600/3060ti when he wants a PC). I will also get likely a 7900XT/4080/4070, or whatever AMD comes out with in a 4070-tier. I'm at 3070/5600X/1440p and wonder if I'd just be better off getting a higher refresh monitor (currently 75Hz, 1440p, IPS). My older son will have to get a CPU regardless, but he could spend 1/3 and just get another 5600X or even 5600 (he has a 165Hz, 1440p monitor). I mostly just play single player DCS, but may get into MP someday if I have time. I'm also assuming the dynamic campaign will tax the CPU more, but if and when ED introduces multi-threading, this might negate any benefits of a 5800X3D. Or will it be able to use the extra 2 cores? Thoughts?
  12. I just tried mission 2 and get the same issue as the OP. I know to go to the guy with the flag, but I did that, went all around in the box of tires, even ran the guy over, the mission never advances. I don't know about the 'game flight mode' as that never happened to me. Is this mission still bugged?
  13. Just stumbled on this thread when doing a search. My youngest son (16) is looking to get a PC, so I was going to upgrade my system a bit (5600X/3070) and hand mine down to my older son (3060ti/3600), then he hands his down to the youngest. The sensible option seems to be getting a 5800X3D and a 4070 or 3080 12GB (if the prices get realistic), but I don't think the CPU upgrade makes any sense as we all play at 1440p: It seems the same scaling rules apply with modern CPU's when you play above 1080p, unless you have a really old 1600 or quad core Intel or something. Not a 'lot' of benefit at 1440p/4K, although the RiftBreaker results are interesting. It looks to make sense just to let the older son buy a 5600 and stick with what I have does it not? I'm not into wasting money just to play games (yes, I can 'afford it', so spare me), and I play other games than just DCS. Thoughts? Does anyone have any real-world, actual data to support that DCS performs better with a 5800X3D vs a 5600X? I don't care about VR. The line that 'it's more expensive, and the theoretical specs prove it's better in DCS' is not 'data'.
  14. I just loaded up DCS after updating to 2.8 (non-steam version) because I still haven't tried the Apache that I pre-ordered. I was in-cockpit, on the tarmac hot-start training mission. I have Trackhat running and all my usual peripherals. It was all going fine until I started switching views with F9, F3 and then F2 when it froze hard and I had to shut it down. I have rarely ever had freezes like that. I will look into it more when I get a chance. 5600X/EVGA 3070
  15. I agree. Cold War aircraft are where they should focus their efforts as they generally take a lot less time to learn, and are more 'fun' to fly. But what exactly are we supposed to do with it right now if we (like most) have no time/interest in Multiplayer? Spend a bunch of time making my own missions and watch the inept AI screw it up? No thanks. I get that they make their money pumping out modules, but the core fixes are LONG overdue.
  16. You hit it right on the head. Drives me nuts when people throw out that arrogant 'if you can afford it' nonsense as though they are the only ones in the world with enough money to buy a DCS module/GPU/insert overpriced piece of sim hardware... I spent $42,000 on a pontoon boat which seems crazy to a lot of people, but when you use it all the time and live 30min from beautiful parks/lakes (and I can always sell it and get a lot of the cash back)...makes perfect sense to me. Single player (what the vast majority play) is severely lacking in DCS. Even with the paid campaigns, the AI is so bad (especially helo wingman) that it makes them pointless to buy. You hear the creators complaining about this all the time..."sorry, I can't fix it because DCS AI is so bad." I like DCS, but also just don't want to devote the time anymore to learning modules as I have other things to do (and other games I like playing too). I won't buy anything else now until some of the core improvements are finished (AI, multi-core, Vulkan, dynamic campaign). I see this same opinion more and more on forums. Even then I have so many modules I haven't even touched that it will take years just to play them enough within a dynamic campaign before I'll 'need' another one.
  17. This is very bold statement that I do not agree with. I have several games in my Steam library that I have over 700 hours in that I paid less than $20 CAD for ('Workers and Resources - Soviet republic' currently). DCS is a niche, and is VERY expensive compared to other games on the market. I have 10 modules and FC3, but I only buy them on sale (way back when I bought the Ka 50), which makes it a lot more palatable. There's no way you can get 1000's of hours out of DCS unless you either play nothing else for several years, or literally spend all your free time playing games.
  18. I'd steer clear of the new sensor for now, yes. But if you don't have one at all, the original Trackhat clip (with the PS3 camera) is excellent, and 1/5 the cost of the TrackIR 5. I'd also steer clear of the 'fanbois' of TrackIR...
  19. I guess if you wanted to order them from China. That's still over $185 CAD for me, which is more than double what the Trackhat cost me. I'm not sure what this means in the description either: For TrackIR5 TrackNP5 Natural Point TrackClip / Head Tracking Flight Simulator "For" TrackIR? Does that mean it's a knockoff?
  20. Sounds like they didn't do much testing before shipping it. That's always a joke when they make you pay to ship it back. Why would they make you send it back to give you a 50% discount? On a new one that they then send for free? Why not just give all pre-orders a 50% discount as a sign of good faith, especially when they're trying to promote a new product?! Some companies just don't get it. Hopefully it gets fixed and you aren't left with a broken product. As I said above, I've had TrackIR 5 before, but it's very flimsy (the Trackclip Pro) and it broke when I was swatting a mosquito. My Trackhat works fine, so I guess I'll just keep it for now and see if they fix the problems before I think about ordering another one. Thanks for the reply. EDIT: It seems there is no requirement to ship it back to get the 50% off, which makes sense, so if I were you or had received it and it doesn't work properly, I'd take the 50% discount and shelve it until they get the bugs out.
  21. The Trackhat works just as good for MUCH cheaper. Is that a used one you got off of Ebay? I don't see any new ones anywhere close to that cheap.
  22. Interesting, do you mean it doesn't work with your existing Trackhat hardware? How old is yours? Wired or wireless? Yes, this is the worst thing about them, the website is as$. I didn't pre-order as my current Trackhat (clip) works fine. I imagine it will take them a while to get the bugs out, as indicated on the last few posts on the FB page. It looks like they are offering a 50% discount if you're willing to wait (for the bugs to be fixed), or a full refund.
  23. You don't understand? Can't help you with that. And yah, it was working fine. Believe it.
  24. This actually looks like a better option, but even more crazy expensive (especially if you have to pay for the software too), and I don't even see a warranty? For something this 'flimsy' (compared to a joystick/throttle, or a racing wheel/pedals) they should at least stand behind the product (5 years at least) when they're charging this much. I could get a new Virpil T50CM3 throttle for the same price as this. That's fine, but it had better last the 20+ years that I expect the throttle to last. For example, my Saitek X45 joystick and throttle were still working fine after 22 years when I sold them for half what I paid new this past fall. It seems people are starting to accept 'a couple years' as good enough for something to last when you spend $600. That's not good enough for me.
