Is there a trick to rockets that I'm missing?
aleader replied to aleader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yes, that's the one. My issue isn't the rockets themselves, it's getting the helo stable enough to employ them. When I do get a few shots off I do lots of damage, but then get shot up almost instantly by ground fire. I will try it again with a low hover from a good distance to see if that works. Passing over top is just a way to get shot out of the sky in this one. -
I'm on mission 2 of the Deployment campaign (the fixed one by MadDog). I have failed it so many times now I've given up. I have tried to keep the helo stable when attacking with rockets, but cannot get it to work. I have no issue with Vikhrs, or the gun, and have no trouble with rockets in the target missions I've made to practice. I try to line the enemy up when they spawn in, but when I tip the helo down to aim (can't see the reticle otherwise) I either gain too much speed too fast and break up, or am bobbing up and down so wildly I can't control it and end up getting shot down by ground fire. I've tried from a hover and rolling in as slow as I can to no avail. So, what is the proper way to trim for a rocket attack, or is it simply hold the trim when you are rolling in? Or should I just hover and try to fire from there? Any help appreciated.

That's how I originally understood it, but that's actually quite a brilliant move by ED. I and many others would have gladly paid for it, but the knock-on effect of selling more modules specifically because of the inclusion of the DC will be huge. For me personally I've really stopped buying modules until this is released (and working to plan). Get it in and working and I'll go on a spending spree that the wife is not going to be happy about...

Are the maps when they are released only available in Open Beta or is it released to stable as well? I know the modules are open beta, but I've never purchased a map when it was first released.

Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable
aleader replied to aleader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Will do, thanks. MadDog, I just completed the first mission and can confirm that the issue with the AI wingman on top of me is fixed in mission 2. -
Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable

Ok, I see now, I have to create the folder first as OvGME won't do it for me. Thanks for the detailed post, I'll give it a try again. -
Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable
aleader replied to aleader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Yah, I wasn't copying the entire structure into the Saved Games folder, probably why it didn't work. When you say 'Newer' DCS do you just mean the latest stable patched version? I really wish they had a Steam Workshop or something like it. It took me a while to figure out a few other mods too as they didn't keep the directory structure (i.e. all the cockpit mods I've tried) and I have to manually build it each time in the Saved Games directory. Does that 'newer' way of putting mods into the saved games folder apply to all mods or just campaigns? Also, do I need to delete the original Deployment campaign from the main game directory if I put your modded one in the Saved Games directory so it doesn't show up twice again in the campaign list in-game? I suppose the Saved Games directory is looked at first and the main game directory is ignored? EDIT: I took all of the .miz files for Deployment and Georgian War and dropped them into the 'Saved Games\Missions\Campaigns\En' directory and I see both campaigns properly now in My Campaigns in-game. -
Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable
aleader replied to aleader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Always seems so easy when you put it like that ;) I d/l OvGME and installed it. Following your file structure above exactly, I set the 'Configuration root folder' to 'C:\Program Files\ED\DCS World'. I then am not sure if I just enter 'Mods_OvGME' in the 'Configuration mods folder' or the entire path again with 'Mods_OvGME' added as a subdirectory? In any event, I tried both and I get an error that the structure isn't valid. -
Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable

Thanks, but I don't know what you're talking about when you say 'package it for mod manager'. Which mod manager? Does the mod manager do this for you? -
Deployment Campaign Issue after Patch to Stable
aleader replied to aleader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Ok, thanks for the effort there. I will look into using a mod manager. So, is there any way that works to instead install it into my User\Saved Games\DCS folder, which doesn't get overwritten every time DCS updates correct? I recall that doing that with your fixed Georgia campaign didn't work...it just showed me all of the individual files in-game when I tried to start it from the User Campaign section. -
I loaded up mission 2 and got this (see thumbnail pic): I read in the patch notes that there was an 'AI parking bug' fixed or something. I had installed MadDog's patch for this campaign from the user files section and noticed that the latest DCS build overwrote those files. Is this a bug again or do I need to reinstall something?

I'll second this. Stay off the forums if you're just here to jump on people.

I just started really learning the Ka 50 in the last few weeks after having owned it since the sale before they raised the price on it (and the A10C) whenever that was. I also haven't had the wandering issue yet and I've played through all of the training missions and about 30 times now through my own pre-made target mission on Georgia, Nevada, and the PG. The sensor will 'drift' from side-to-side if you hold O as it begins to scan. Is that maybe the issue? I do use the HMD a lot, but not exclusively. I'll have to test this out a bit tonight. I only play on stable too.

Thanks for the reply. Why did you switch from the 11.6"? Just so all 3 matched? No plans to have the 3rd MFD unless I could somehow find a very cheap NEW single MFD (unlikely). I read in a thread that someone was using a 2nd vid card to run the MFD's, which I also thought was impossible.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07Q1FHT87/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2J9H5JP3ISEDW&psc=1 I'm thinking of getting the above screen for my MFD's for F18/A10C/Harrier. Hard to know if it's any good from the reviews, but I guess I can return it if it isn't. I already have them mounted on an old, heavy 22" 1680x1050 LCD monitor...too heavy and hard to manage on an arm though. I've read that the 11.6" screen fits well for 2 of them. Does anyone use one? Better still, has anyone tried this brand? I have a GTX 950 sitting around that I could throw in my PC along with my 1070. I will be getting a new vid card this fall however (RTX 3070 or whatever it's called or similar). I have a 32" 1440p/75Hz monitor. How would this work? Just plop the 950 in and hook it to the 11.6" and DCS will pick it up as though it's simply acting as a power supply for it? I assume you don't have to run these in SLI for it to work? Any help appreciated before I buy this thing.

The most fun I've ever had in a MP match EVER was in a Churchill tank in Post Scriptum recently, as the driver no less. We had 4 random people and coordinated teamwork (you have to have a headset to play that game) flawlessly. It has also been my WORST experience when you get some idiot that wants your position in the tank and will actually shoot you to get you out of it. I want to be one of these people that actually knows someone (personally) that owns a desktop PC and would ever even consider DCS as a game worth playing. I must be in that age group (47) where nobody would ever consider a PC. Not one person in my entire office of 65 people, nobody in either mine or my wife's family, and none of our friends. I don't work or know anybody that works in PC or tech though, so that may be part of it. And forget my teen kids...they just laugh when I suggest something as complex as DCS.

Pretty sure there's a thread already about the pathfinding being really bugged right now. I noticed it too when I was trying the free trial. EDIT: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=270046

There isn't, I have both installed but don't ever use Beta as it's virtually unplayable in it's current state. Other than the Museum Relic campaign (which I own along with the Sabre but haven't tried yet) there is no content for the Mig 15. An included campaign would push me to buy it instantly too as it's an excellent module.

I always chuckle on forums when someone doesn't understand something and a bunch of die-hard, 7,000 post guys (you are the MINORITY of players of most games) get on here and tell him that it's 'obvious' and people that ask questions are 'nitwits'...seriously, get a life (the guys calling people names on GAME forums). It's a minority of guys that are jerks, but it turns people away. I've been playing this game a while now and just recently realized that some modules are only available in open beta (when I first tried the JF 17 free trial...cue 'you're a moron then because you don't spend all day on forums and live and breath DCS'). I figured it out myself, but could have just as easily asked on the forums...as that's what forums are for are they not? Asking questions? The F16 is apparently early access (as are a lot of the modules), but is available on stable (where I play too as the beta is such a stuttering sh@tshow right now). The only modules I'm aware of that are on open beta only are the JF 17 and the WW2 assets pack (if you want the new stuff). That is not OBVIOUS to the average person that plays this casually, and ED should shoulder some of the blame. I've seen several erroneous sentences in the descriptions, especially on the Steam pages (i.e. open beta is required when it hasn't been for nearly 2 years). I could tell from the original post in this thread that the guy wasn't on open beta. Could have been a one-answer thread. It's unfortunate that it's in the state that it is as I won't/can't try out the additional assets and the JF 17 because of the FPS issues.
-
Good to know. I have failed this training mission a few times now and just gave up.
-
I'm still trying to understand what the module offers to people that mostly do single player? I know there is a DLC campaign (where you basically just play from the map view from the vids I've watched), but I don't see anything under the user files section for CA...where do you even look for it. Is it really just a sandbox-type module where you play around in the editor?
-
This is really bad timing to have a broken release though. CA was one of the modules I've been watching for years now waiting for it to get fixed. I'm going to try it now in the free trial. If it's broken though it will be a hard sell to anyone.

For those on the sideline about buying Normandy...
aleader replied to Mr_sukebe's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
Ok, thanks. I have both installed (stable and beta) and did try the Normandy map briefly in stable last night. It was very smooth, I just wanted to be sure I was seeing the best version of it. -
Thanks, didn't realize that. Maybe I'll post over there instead.
