Non-flyable Bombers with Multicrew (Commander, Gunners)
iFoxRomeo replied to iFoxRomeo's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Guess who will be flying the Hind or Apache in SP when you are at the gunner's position? Why do you need a new FM? It has one already and a virtual pilot too. DM is also available, as it was part of the new DM. I think the external model of the available B-17, A-20, Ju88 is great already . Yes, the stations need to be modeled. But there's no need for modelling of switches or systems, as these stations don't need to control anything but their guns and their oxygen (check Huey doorgunner for comparison). Of course the stations themselves need modeling, but you don't need to walk around in the aircraft. If I remember correctly ED once said, that the 3D modeling was the quickest and "cheapest" part of a module. This feature could be included to combined arms, as ED wants to upgrade CA at some point. I suggested this for some reasons. 1. To know if there is enough interest for such a feature. ED made it possible to man AAA, and I think manned door/turret gunners are even more interesting than stationary AAA. 2. Make ED aware of this idea. ED knows far far better than me how to make it profitable if there is enough interest in this. A fully-fledged DCS: B-17 would probably be not profitable. I'd think it would be a niche in a niche.

Bsp: "+-+-" bedeutet-> 1. "+" bei Rural MR an , 2. "-" in der City MR aus, 3. "+" an der Festung MR an, 4. "-" an der Kathedrale MR aus Testmission Normandy A8 Motion Reprojection Auto Rural/Caen City high density/Caen Fortress/Caen Kathedral PD SteamVR-% Resolution Result 0.5 2200*2156-100 1100*1078 no flight, just for resolution comparison 1.0 2200*2156-100 2200*2156 ++++ 0.5 4404*4316-400 2202*2158 ++++ 1.1 2200*2156-100 2420*2371 ++++ 1.0 2412*2364-120 2412*2364 ++++ 0.5 4924*4828-500 2462*2414 +--+ only short dips below MR threshold 1.0 2472*2420-126 2472*2420 +-+- only short dips below MR threshold 1.2 2200*2156-100 2639*2586 +--- 1.4 2200*2156-100 3080*3018 ---- 1.0 3080*3020-196 3080*3020 ---- Fox p.s. 1920*1080 sind nur relevant, wenn man ohne VR startet

ähm... 1 mbar = 1 hPa I hope this will be adressed once the new ATC system is developed. Until then I'm afraid the WWII pilot needs his smartphone for conversion. Fox

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
iFoxRomeo replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
@NineLineIs that correct, that ED has separate Teams for (modern) jets, helicopters, (vintage) prop aircraft? If so, the Me262 could be developed by the jet team, and the prop Team could continue on the props... Should be easy peazy for the team that made the Hornet and Viper. They need only to program the Jumo engine and the Schwalbe airframe. No complicated avionics, no propeller interaction... Fox -
How do you all think the MIG-15 Performs?

Lol... What boots is he talking about? -

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
iFoxRomeo replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Why is it so hard for ED to position themselves? Why this eggdance for so many years already? Whenever I read "it is planned" I have to "insert vomiting smilie here" Eventually every aircraft that was ever built will be "planned" for DCS, given enough time. As there will be a Battlefield 10 some day. So please stop abusing the word "planned" and words of equivalent meaning. Why can't YOU(not you personally Norm, but ED as a company with Nick at the top) admit that the DCS Me262 is dead. Obviously noone is working on it. YOU promised it, otherwise we wouldn't talk about it for 6(7 if you take the Kickstarter into account) years already in the DCS:Me262 subforum. I have no objection regarding the Mossie. Can't wait to fly her in DCS. She brings to DCS something we didn't have before. Twin engine propeller, fast bomber, heavy weapons. Fantastic! That's why I think the 262 will be a great addition to DCS. Twin jet, significant speed, extreme armament(in a way that it only relies on slow firing Mk108s, unlike the K4), difficult engines. What will BOB bring to DCS? A Spitfire vs. Bf109 combat... but wait, that's what we already have. We have a Spitfire vs. Bf109. It's the same stuff, just a slightly different colour then. The speeds are lower, the weapons are weaker, but the tactics remain very similar. That's why I'm not a fan of a Aircraft Mk.I till -XX, it is still the same aircraft. There is no significant change. Spitfire Mk.I-XIV and Bf109E3-G10. Nice to have, but does it change the tactics? I think not significantly. Don't get me wrong. I would by Spitfire Mk.I-XIV the moment they are in the store. But that doesn't change the way the people play. You can't use the same tactic you use vs a Bf109 against a Me262. Before you bring more stuff of the same kind, bring new options, and then you can continue with the "same" stuff in different nuances. No aircraft we have now flys and fights like the others. Spitfire doesn't fight and fly like a Mustang, doesn't fight and fly like a Kurfürst, doesn't... Thunderbolt... Anton... Dora... you get the point I think. And Mossie will fight and fly differently to what we have now and a Me262 would again fight and fly differently... How would a G6-late in comparison to the K4 fight against a Mustang/Spitfire/Thunderbolt? Probably very similarly. Why not Me262 and then a Gloster Meteor? Imagine the tension you have in a Bf109 when you know there are possibly Meteors in your area. If YOU(ED) promise something, then do it, or admit that it is cancelled. Every other behaviour is not honest to your fans and paying customers. There will be an uproar but then everyone knows what is happening in the future and you could move this thread to the chit-chat or whish section. Everything that won't be released within 4 years is just simply a wish and nothing more. And with the Me262 we are in the year 7 already. I'm a big fan of DCS. It is a very unique piece of software. I really enjoy DCS so much, because it is a Sandbox full of possibilities, no competitor can offer. Fox -
Dude, seriously, no need to make such a drama ... Quote: "Cool! Lets throw out the guncam footage then,..." You should read what is written. First of all, Guncams show what CAN happen to an aircraft that is shot at. But these guncam footages don't tell anything about the amount of bullets, the attacked aircraft received in total, because this footage doesn't necessarily include what happened before the final hit. Best examples are the shared kills, which point to the fact that at least two aircraft attacked the shot down aircraft. And you don't know how many bullets the shared attackers shot and how many of these bullets did hit and where they hit the aircraft. So yes guncam footage is good, but keep it in the whole context. I totally agree that an aircraft that is burning for 5+ minutes seems very unlikely. ED is working on the DM. For DCS 2.7 bugfixes for the DM are announced. The questions I've got: Is this a graphics bug(shows a fire when it should be a fuel/oil leak only) or does DCS not consider a structural failure due to fire? I had a long DCS WWII break. Just yesterday I flew for the first time in months. A Mustang with its .50 cal set my 109 quickly on fire and my virtual pilot quickly blacked out from this fire. I'm not saying everything is fine with the DM. If you experience something that seems to be a bug, attach a track and a video. A track is important for ED to find the bug. If these things happen during MP, leave and rejoin the server whenever you take a new aircraft, or when you have to repair/rearm/refuel it. That way the tracks are short and more likely to be not corrupted. Fox

It doesnˋt make sense to take guncam footage to judge the amount of hits necessary to down an aircraft, unless you have all footage from all attackers of this particular aircraft. You don't know, how often this aircraft was hit before that guncam footage was recorded. It just shows the final attack. And then you don't even know how many bullets really hit and where they hit. Air Combat Sim with NineLine - post your questions here
iFoxRomeo replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Community News
Poor Nineline. I can imagine this is a tough job. Anything about the Me 262? After so many years it's really sad to not hear anything relevant about it. Would make an interesting SP aircraft. (And a Gloster Meteor F.3 would then be a good competitor for "what if they met" scenarios) Any plans to update old modules? UH-1H, Mi-8, F-86, MiG-15 Is the damage model for the Forgotten War-Birds...forgotten? The 8th January Newsletter that accompanied the DM release for the WW2 Warbirds mentioned that the modern aircraft are next, not the F-86 and MiG-15, which would really need it as they are guns only fighters. Fox -
Fox

Dogfight Red / Blue liveries - all warbirds

Thanks! These kind of paintschemes should be standard liveries for every flyable aircraft in DCS. Edit: You could add your P-47 red blue liveries to the Thunderbolt skin contest. -

reported Drop tanks not correctly jettisoned
iFoxRomeo replied to iFoxRomeo's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, bad release was one reason. Or unintended loss of one tank during flight. But there was also a shortage on fueltanks at some time, so that they indeed took off and flew with only one external fuel tank. edit: It depends on the fuel state, type of fuel tank and airspeed when you can release the fueltanks Fox -
