  1. Wow ! Great documentary. Very impressive aircraft for sure if you weren't already convinced. Edit: Just finished watching the second part which focused primarily on the Mi-8 in combat. Amazing machine. I want the rear ramp, wide side cargo door, "door" gunners, anti tank missiles.......... And would also be great to see both the Mi-8 and Huey capable of offloading troops from a hover without landing in rough terrain.... well we can wish can't we ?
  2. Yes and look at the poor sob in the KA-50. I know that there is a lot of computer assistance available but still you have one person dealing with flying, navigation, engine management, weapons system and targeting, threat assessment and response...... Stress level has to be high at best
  3. Because it's not as twitchy as an attack helicopter on the move I think the sensation is of being in a slower bird then it actually is. And this is a big heavy beast compared to the Huey. Pretty peppy for it's size I think.

  5. Makes me wonder if we will have a "slick" variation in our MI-8
  6. Apparently there's no uniform reg on skirt length....... "woof" (3rd from left). Actually not a bad one in the bunch. I should be severely punished for such sexist thoughts.
  7. I think the biggest help is to avoid thinking of the system as an AP and more as a flight stabilization assistant. More a part of the trimming function then auto-pilot. I've also found that at times it really helps to "clear" the accumulated corrections that have built up. There are some good docs out there on how to best use the system too.
  8. Yeah, definitely wasn't intended to be a precision, hang in the air, weapons delivery platform like the KA-50. Very different mission capabilities. More like a bulked up Huey
  9. Great Mod ! Thanks Some people were having trouble copying the mod files into the Zip in the ......Textures directory. Sorry if I'm repeating info others may have already posted My usual routine is to Move the folder I want to work with to the Desktop. Then it's easy to copy and modify files etc without interference from the security around Program Folders. When done I just move the folder back to it's home in the original Programs Folder And on a related note, the text on my panels is a bit fuzzy compared to the screen shots at the front of this thread. My Russian text was too for that matter. Screen res is set to my max of 1920 x 1080 on a 24" LCD. Is there something else I should be setting or should I expect fuzzy cockpit text on this screen
  10. Thought I wanted to stick with the Russian cockpit for atmosphere but your translated version looks GREAT ! Thanks
  11. Personally I felt that the weight difference was noticeable and pretty well modeled considering it's still a first release beta. Just look at the difference so far in the Huey from first release and also still beta.
  12. Also the Quickstart manual in your docs takes you through all the various weapon setups...... Easy step by step directions And like Suchacz says....... do the weapon tutorial mission a few times if you have to. Really worthwhile.
  13. I usually find that my tail boom has been shot off by the AAA and I'm making a fast uncontrolled descent
  14. Shouldn't an auto-shutdown followed by an auto-startup automatically set the correct switches. I can't restart after a shutdown either and get no error message as you get in the Huey if something is set incorrectly
  15. No the radios are not functioning correctly yet in the MI-8 anyway. And in different situations you can re-arm when you are shut completely down (normal) and others you have to be running. Anytime you can call for rearm or troop load or whatever using the "/" plus "f" keys you have to assume the "radio" is functioning properly I think.
  16. If you can't see how people could possibly feel ill used in this situation then there is no argument that will convince you otherwise. And the timing does make a strong argument for an initial unreasonably inflated value followed by a substantial depreciation or "reduction in value".
  17. The grumbling isn't about a great sale price.... It's not about "jealousy".... It is about the 2 week timeframe before a 60% drop ...... That's just a slap and an insult to early purchasers..... no other way to really look at it
  18. I'll have to try the "door open" in other missions just to see. I was surprised to find I could rearm after engine start but not before in this mission. So far, that's only worked for me in Helicopter Wars though. Edit: Gave it a try in a couple other missions that have armed MI-8's and no go, door open, engine on / off, doesn't matter. Both "tricks" work in the Helicopter Wars for some reason. Wolle had to have done something different when placing / selecting the MI-8's in this mission ? Whatever it is, don't change it. Re-arming is a good thing to have. Edit 2: I did re-try another mission and if I moved from the Farp beside the airport to a ramp at the airport I could rearm using either "trick" listed previously - engine on, or side door open
  19. Mostly people have been saying that they would not have been upset after a bit more time had passed....... but paying full ticket to support an early release beta and seeing it drop a full 60% barely two weeks later does make some feel just a tad misused......
  20. Thought it was just me seeing this ! Actually I have landed smoothly on grass / uneven terrain numerous times. But it does seem that if you have any sideways motion when you land you cause some damage or something that leads to the nasty bunny hop motion that follows. At that point I usually find that I can no longer take off but can drive around like a ground vehicle if I want. Try landing with even a small bit of forward motion at the moment you touch down should help
  21. I've tried the same thing in a couple other missions so far without success so I'm guessing it has something to do with how you placed the MI-8's in the Helicopter Wars. Keep doing it for now whatever it is. Then again, the whole re-arm issue will probably be altered as they continue work on the Beta
  22. Re Re-Arming: Discovered accidently that you can re-arm AFTER you start the engines but not before. This works, at least in the Helicopter Wars. Go figure ?
  23. With a steady influx of new people (which should be a good thing) there will always be repetitive questions. And with a forum as large and active as this, searching previous threads can be discouraging at times especially those threads that get really large. I don't mind seeing repeat questions except when the next thread on the page obviously addresses the same question. I have limited financial resources at present so it was significant for me to spend the 50.00 for the beta but I thought to help the progress of these helicopters. A 60% off sale 2 weeks later just seems thoughtless. If anything, a deal should have been offered up front to the people willing to support an early beta release
  24. I also found that for me the control and responsiveness seemed noticeably improved with the latest update
