I don't think the auto radiators have every worked. You should be able to run at max continuous settings for as long as you're up in the air without over heating but that isn't the case. We always have to manual open the radiators and leave them there to keep the engine from over heating when staying within the proper limitations. So, in the end after you start up, make sure both levers are forward and hold ALT + A and ALT + S for 20 seconds or until you hear the motor stop.

Wow, that's really off. lol Other than neither one of those being European cars...lol More like the A10 is a Full size truck and the Mig is a 60's model muscle car.

Survival in the F-15 - new to electronic warfare
BSS_Sniper replied to Reflected's topic in F-15C for DCS World
So, do you have to say sir to guys in your group with higher rank and salute? lol Seriously. Who are these computer pilot hero instructors of yours? Other than some game techniques, unless someone is currently an active duty mil pilot or retired, I'd take what they say with a grain of salt. Having said that, our group has several of each. :) -
It would be nice if you provided a link so we could see who wrote this. Until then, I'd take it with a grain of salt. The Iraqi air force wasn't really known for being good, even against the Iranians.

Why? The corsair did a lot more than the crusader ever did. The F8 is just another single seat fighter that wasn't around that long.

Some bad news, depending on which side you´re on..
BSS_Sniper replied to Prowler111's topic in RAZBAM
Well no, night is not considered a weather condition but it does require the aircraft to have specific equipment to fly at night, that is not related to weather. -
All you had to do was check chat to see if there was a kill msg.

That is pure speculation and your opinion. I know for a fact there are 30 in my squadron alone that would rather have a naval variant for naval operations. I know that there are other in the works so I am not sure why one module couldn't have two variants. I'd rather have the naval version so that those that wanted to do carrier ops could do so and those that did could just chance the insignia.

That's the problem with multiplayer, not many people fly at realistic altitudes. Everyone wants to fly on the deck in their "easy" mode FC aircraft and the Mig 21 doesn't stand a chance because of the radar. It would be nice if some real life counterparts to the Mig 21 were developed so that we could have some real fun in this aircraft.

I'm just now seeing this thread after this reactivations happening many times to me, even last night. I'm trying the registry fix and I hope it works. It happens a lot.

Relative performance of the Mustang, the 109 and the 190
BSS_Sniper replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I'm not sure where someone got that the 51 in here is faster than either German plane, but that surely isn't true. You're lucky if you can outdive either. You really shouldn't turn against the Dora if you can avoid it. Maybe you can if it's AI, not MP though. Just keep it fast and b & z unless you're flying with cover. -
Holy crap, no more than every 5 min? That's not really correct. As a rule of thumb, when you're flying aircraft in which you have to manually switch fuel tanks, you'll switch them every 30 min. Each aircraft will tell you when to switch in its own POH and it will be dictated on what constitutes the max fuel difference between the wings.
-
The ground handling here seems closer to real than other sims IMO. If you're going straight down a taxiway, there's no reason to unlock the tailwheel. Only unlock it to make sharp turns. Also, what are you calling 3-4%? Give us a MP setting that gets the plane rolling. I see that I have to give myself 20-25" to get rolling, not 3-4%.
-
The proper engine settings are not only in the manual, there are on a placard in the aircraft. 61" and 3000 rpm to take off. Always open the radiators for takeoffs. If you follow the placard for different phases of flight, you should be fine. It doesn't get any easier than that. One thing that isn't in there is a combat setting that you can used over a sustained period of time. I've found that if you use 2800 rpms and limit your MP to 50" or so, you can fight for a very long time without overheating, provided you manual open the radiators and leave them open. The auto function doesn't seem to really work IMO. I've rarely had to go over 55" in a fight and if I do, it's not for a long time. Also, if you find in a fight that your engine is starting to warm up, bump the mixture up to rich and it will help to cool it down and keep it cool.

People who have flown the 1O9 and the P51
BSS_Sniper replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Just because a German pilot out turned a spitfire doesn't mean it has a better turn radius. It could have been inexperienced pilots or those that didn't want to take it to the limit. IIRC the elliptical wing on the spit gave that plane a better turn radius than the 109. What the pilots do with that is a different story. -
Does a FFB controller make a HUGE difference ?...
BSS_Sniper replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
The only stick I used was a MS FFB 2, since 2001, in combination with a throttle. I got my Warthog in 2012 and now that's all I use. I never thought I'd be able to use any other stick, but my mind has changed since I got the Thrustmaster. I wish MS still made the FFB's but it hasn't been supported in a long time so because of that and the fact that I wanted the TM Warthog for the A10, I moved on. In the end, the FFB is nice, but not the end all, be all in sticks. At best it's a mediocre stick. There just aren't enough buttons. -

BSS_Sniper replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
It really shouldn't be hard to be good in the 109 since it climbs faster than it should and never runs out of coolant. lol It's only going to get more difficult if they ever get around to correcting it and get it out of beta. -
There's really no reason to use the auto start on any of the WWII aircraft. Take five min to learn how to start it and lose the auto start crutch.
-
There's no reason to take your hand off the controls to click things in the cockpit when you're engaged. If you did need to do something like adjust the trim or flaps, you use your left hand. There's a reason most of that stuff is on the same side as the throttle.
-
How are you good at flying formation if you've never flown online? There's a huge difference when flying formation with live pilots vs AI. It's much harder. I'm not sure what you mean when you say your system needs to be set up to fly online. I mean, you're online now, there's nothing to set up.
-
Why don't you join a squad that's already together? I've been flying with the same guys for about 15 years now. It's nice not having to go out looking for others to fly with. We have about 30 guys and 7-12 of us will be flying at any given time.
-
What's with some of the smart a** replies? He made an observation and that's all you have? I agree with what he said and it's even worse if it's AI. Not just the flying, the DM. How long can a 109 spray coolant before it runs out? In game, it never stops. I won't go into it's climb rate. And yes, he's a pilot, flies for a living, flew in the navy before that. So he's basing this off actual experience compared to most people in here, there computer experience.

Understanding the Maple Flag Altitude Blocks

I know this is an older, answered post, but just throwing this out there...You don't use FL (flight levels) until 18,000. -
Two CH Pro Throttles Setup for twin engines aircraft
BSS_Sniper replied to Lion13's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The really crappy part about NOT using a warthog is that you will have a hard time learning the aircraft if you don't match up the controls as close as possible to the real thing. I'd rather have a TM warthog and use that for other stuff, like I do, than have a generic stick. Just my .02...
