  1. The mig-21 has differential braking... as neil says... it's the same kind of braking as in most russian planes, even back to ww2... 1. hold rudder pedal down all the way to the right 2. hit the brake lever 3. right brake activates and you turn right same thing with left... the nose wheel just swivels, like on a shopping cart. I've yet to run out of compressed air either, but I'm sure if you just randomly pumped the brake lever a few minutes it'd run out lol one thing that is kinda messed up... the brakes only seem to have fully on, and fully off, even though i have the brake lever set up as my right toe axis on my pedals, and in game, when i only lightly press it, the lever barely moves (so i know the toe axis works properly), is it supposed to do that? if so... why did they make a mechanical linkage instead of a push button? more reliable?
  2. So there's an interesting story behind the 2nd kill in this vid... I forgot to record the previous kill, it goes something like this... I run head on into an F-15 at altitude, i launch an R3R at him and it misses, so I get in behind him and fire an R-55 at him, but he dives fast into a valley and it misses, so i wait till he's trapped in, and launch an R-13M1 directly into his canopy... so after all that I'm down to 2000L fuel, the 2nd one in this starts while I'm rtb from that, I fire two R-60Ms at him...
  3. Basically your plane just keeps going in the last direction you were moving until the client disconnects from the server... so you pretty much just vanish from the game when it crashes. you don't have to worry about getting banned for things like that, accidents happen, and everyone has issues with dcs from time to time... it's really easy to tell who's deliberately TKing, and who just doesn't know what their doing, or is having problems with their client... My game crashes basically every 2nd sortie on the VA server, it's got a lot of junk that conflicts with other junk on it... but on the 104th it rarely ever crashes...
  4. Don't turn on the JATO switches till you're fully armed, ready to go, sitting on the runway, that way you never need to worry about flipping them up too soon... they go off by themselves when you hit 130kph, and run out at 330-350kph , can jettison them over the runway, they don't have a collision model, so there's no risk of littering the runway.
  5. so i made this... it has a couple su-27 kills in it, but mostly all mig-21 vs modern fighters...
  6. I'd love to get good at RI but it's looking as if I'll mostly be the pilot, looking at this thread. I bet having someone in the back seat telling me how stupid blind I am will help a ton, like having AWACS built-in
  7. i think the su-27 can out-maneuver a f-15 in a stall fight, you have to get yourself slow enough, and keep yourself slow enough, with as much AOA as physically possible, so that engines have nothing to do with the fight other than keeping yourself from hitting the ground.
  8. yeah, every once in a while, head-on usually goes one of two ways... I get an R3R to the face, or they fly over my head and i turn in behind them and take them out... the fun part is when they try to turn in behind me too 8) I guess I launch r3rs too... if I get behind one... well... obvious... Just gotta keep in mind, if he's running full afterburner, and started with more energy than you, you can't catch him, but there's exeptions to every rule right? if he's got a heavier loadout, more fuel than you, if he's bad at energy management, etc...
  9. The most kills ive managed to get in one sortie is 4, its my goal to get 6 but I usually run outta fuel, or one of my missiles misses...
  10. may be kinda off topic, but does this mean you can cage the R-13M1 since you can slew the pipper?
  11. The radar shows both angles, and range, on both scales... when you don't have something locked, it's range on the vertical scale and angle on the horizontal scale. when you do have something locked, the horizontal scale is range and angle, and the vertical scale is angle. there are two vertical lines that move horizontally inwards towards the center when you have something locked. when your target is directly forwards of you, and those two vertical lines are on the 5, the target is 5km from you.... if the target is on the 5 on the horizontal scale, and the two vertical lines are at 0 and 10, the target is 5km from you, and 5 degrees to one side... as for the vertical scale... it's super simple... when something isn't locked, its range, e.g. if the target is half way between the 10 and the 0, it's 5km away. when something is locked, it's angle, e.g. if the target is above the + it's above you.
  12. They said they thought I was a friendly.

  14. if you want even more info about the RS-2 missile... it was developed for the RP-21 radar, and wasn't exactly sarh, it used a command based system, and was incompatible with the RP-22 radar our bis has, the same thing with the grom missile...
  15. guess it's another good reason to stay as close to the ground as you can... if you're 2 inches from the ground, nothing could possibly be underneath you lol... but that was quite the fight coldviper, you made him work for it.
  16. Well... there are only 2 reason I can think of why an R3R would not be able to track a locked target, while being well within max range, and nowhere near max g-load... lag, in which case, you'd probably lose your lock, or not within 20 degrees of the pipper when you launch... chaff does absolutly nothing to the R3R, though if you're within a few km, and buddy in the other plane dumps a crap ton of chaff you might lose your lock... honestly I've never had an R3R just fly dumb directly off the pylon while I have a lock on someone, hope I never do.
  17. still.... back on topic... R-27's and R-73s on the pylons, and an R-77 sitting infront... could you imagine?...
  18. http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=cs&u=http://ruslet.webnode.cz/technika/ruska-technika/letecka-vyzbroj/protiletadlove-rs/r-13m1-aa-2e-atoll-e-/&prev=search
  19. I've never had an R-3R stop tracking on me just suddenly while i still have a lock on something, but I've lost lock before, they might only have so long of a battery life, what range do they stop tracking at? remember... if at first you don't succeed, get closer and launch another.
  20. well with the R-3R(and rs2us) you don't even need to aim, don't need to be behind, just keep the radar lock, wait till you're close enough, and launch... all the others require actual maneuvering into position and getting your pipper on the enemy to fire
