Can't beat the TM Warthog HOTAS. I had to save and save but when I got it, I KNEW I'd never fly without it, ever again. Nothing compares.
-
The Warthog throttle and joystick should be set up (mostly) as the real A-10 is. I use the grey incr/decr paddle (on the right of the throttle) as a manual zoom because I don't like TrackIr's zoom. Everything else is just as the book calls for. If I'm not mistaken, DCS's A-10C has defaults to that effect. As for the sensitivity curves, you're just going to have to play with them until you are comfortable. I started out with no curves at all. Then I added little by little as I flew missions later. Not to get a war started, but I never touch anything from Steam. I buy straight from ED. Make sure you have a clean install of both your OS (Windows) and DCS World. Fly single player first to get your bearings. Then fly on some conservative online MP servers. Be prepared to die often at first. Watch your mp tracks afterwards. Keep in mind, at all times, that DCS aircraft are study simulations. Everything here is extremely relalistic. The A-10, especially. Welcome to the Sim world that certainly ain't the arcade flyin' you used to do!

I had a really great time. I can't thank you guys enough for letting me shoot something! :) My only issue was that I had no idea where, on the east side of the river, were the targets. So, I just bombed and shot up whatever looked like it needed bombing. Unfortunately, I lost SA and wandered across the river only to bomb a camp on our side. That was made up for, anyway, later when one of our fast movers shot ME down! (I deserved it, right?) LOL All in all, I had a great time.

Mac copies assignment in Red A-10C. Please notify what weapons will be or will not be permitted for the Hog. Looking forward to a great competition!

Mac would like to take A-10C Red or (if not available) a Huey either side.

Walking the throttles? I know what you mean, but they have a use in AAR??? In real life?

Just purchased it. Now, can anyone help me get September here more quickly? -
PRE-PURCHASE DCS: L-39 ALBATROS Discussion Thread

Oh, absolute crap! I have to go to work at the moment. Damn. I need to push my money in quickly. Maybe I should quit my job? Nah... I'll just have to wait until later tonight..... Oh, god, I can't wait for it for 8 hours!!! -
Vapor cone. Nice. How do I get one on my little Toyota?

I am imagining a well-involved firefight somewhere in downtown LV. Is it possible to see a hotel or some type of large building get hit? Do power lines do the same damage as collidable trees? Many power lines are almost impossible to see from a fast mover: will the visibility of these power lines be reduced to better reflect reality? (In 1961, a low-flying French military plane cut the cables of a cable car between the Helbronner peak and the Aiguille du Midi and in 1998, an EA-6B Prowler on a low altitude training mission cut the cables supporting the aerial tramway-style cable car from Cavalese in Italy. (The plane had wing and tail damage but was able to return to its base, Aviano Air Base.) ATC improvements were mentioned. Could we hear some examples? Will realistic marshalling be simulated? In 1988, in the SOH, an Iranian Airbus A300 wandered into a naval skirmish and was mistakenly shot down by the U.S.S. Vincennes becaise the U.S. Navy captain, Will Rogers III, mistook the Airbus for an F-14. So goes the Fog of War. With NTTR and SOH, how will the dangers of civilian traffic be simulated? Will the different modes of IFF be simulated?

Thanks. From the web, i7 4770K base clocks at 3.5 and can go up to 3.9. With my two 680's and my clock cruising at 4.6, I should be able to match Wags' FPS. What WAS his FPS in Las Vegas?
-
My primary concern is the FPS in Las Vegas. DCS World 1 would come to its knees around Novo or Sochi if there were many objects to "paint" and, as some have experienced, come to a complete stop with 1 frame per several seconds if someone caused some smoke or some such. In DCS World 2, in the streams, I noticed some stutter here and there. It was noticeable but acceptable for such a high degree of detail. What I would like to know is at that intense level of detailing (non-flat shadowing, etc.), what was/is Wags' FPS and what CPU core speed does he have? What GFX card(s) does he use for the demos?
-
In downtown LV, will there be a Wendy's, McDonalds, and Pizza Hut? I neeeeed my pizza after a grueling flight.
-
I would die (and re-spawn) for a chance to fly the Chinook. For a DCS level study sim of it like the Huey, I'd pay hundreds of dollars for it.

Mudspike Preview of DCSW2 and Baltic Dragon's Campaign

Everything about the graphics is astounding. Everything I've seen about EDGE is just killing me! But, patience is a virtue so I remain virtuous. There is one small exception: the tree shadows. They look a bit too hard. Maybe they can be softened a bit? Or lightened? I DO like the shadows. They add to the realism. But they look painted on. The haze is simply awesome. Photo-realistic! Oh, and the end shot: actually, you're like 99% of us because we get shot down a lot, too. :) Well, at least I do... -
It's not a real Vulcan: it's an alien spaceship shaped to look like Avro's Vulcan. The bird is in the Tractor Beam because the aliens are taking samples of earth life. You were next on their list...

Fore and firstmost: there's NOTHING that comes close to DCS. If all I had was the Huey or Hog, I'd die happy. But I have everything. This defines ecstasy for my pilot-self. ED, take as long as it takes to do it right. People who belly-ache and moan are just people who love you so much. Kids will be kids, you know. My (ex-programmer) question is, just what the heck is the difference between Pre-alpha, Alpha, Pre-beta, Beta, and Post-beta? I don't mind ripping through the air around McCarran without guns or ATC, but I sure don't want to see big blue holes in the runway or hovering firetrucks. Finally, since you're working on ATC, are you going to have an intelligent (FAA/AI) response to those Skuzz-bucket newbies who fire 30mm into McCarran's tower? Say... their tails and tips instantly become orange... or pink even! And finally-finally, is there a way we can get a hi-res of those two AWESOME thumb-nails. Hoover looks so... so.... yeah, just so...!

I've seen and practiced combat landings and, true to the bird, they are difficult to accomplish without making a mess at the LZ. Practice and then practice more. Eventually, it becomes second nature. However, I saw a video somewhere of a real Huey doing a quick stop. He came in low and fast, pulled a hard bank and "blew out" of his velocity, rolled quickly to straight and level and settled into a feathery motionless landing. I am trying to duplicate it, currently. I'll let you know next year or so if I ever get it as smooth as I saw.
-
I have never hurried ED or complained (much) about things. However, I do suggest that ED post an emergency number (at least here in Canada) for those family members who will discover their pilot-loved-one frozen in his (or her) seat while flying DCS 2.0. I, for one, plan to fly until I die of starvation when it does come to my computer. Please, ED; don't hurry. Do it right. Then bask in the glory that you all are the BEST in the world.

If I recall correctly (from the early 1970's!) The F-4J had what we called a command select valve which (normally?) was selected to "BOTH". If the RIO punched out, both would be ejected within fractions of a second from each other. If the command select valve was not set to "BOTH" and the RIO ejected, the pilot remained as in this photo. I do not recall what the normal position was. I do remember it was in the upper left side of the (front) of the RIO's instrument panel. Keep in mind that my naval aviation days were forty years ago!

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
=Mac= replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm still waiting for the Sopwith Camel. Oh, wait; that was a British fighter, eh? Well, bloody hell. -
King was an FAA certificated private pilot and learned to fly in 1963. In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit, a fairly common practice at the time. During a performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, and the building was evacuated. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside so he went back into the burning building to retrieve his beloved $30 Gibson guitar. Two men died in the fire, and King learned the next day that they had been fighting over a woman named Lucille. King subsequently named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every guitar he has owned since, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women. Now we can really sing the blues, eh? RIP, Riley.
