Mmmmmm... Huey 2.0!

Good training exercise for hovering. Las Vegas will never be the same.

I was a Squid from 71 to 74 and a proud Airdale. I watched the Tomcats get their start at NAS Oceana. Keep in mind that I'll buy and fly anything in DCS. But, as for the A-6, I thought they were ugly as a mud fence and way too noisy on the flightdeck or in a pattern on shore. Their sharp screech was deafening compared to the Phantoms' thundering roar. On the other hand, watching that funny thing scorch the air as it zipped down the cat with a gazillion pounds of ordnance just had to be considered miraculous. MERs and TERs everywhere!

Unfortunately, I have yet to acquire that skill in the Huey or the Gazelle. If I have been flying the Huey for a while and then get in my car to drive somewhere, I find myself nodding yes alot. Or nodding a bank angle back and forth somewhat. Wifey has yet to complain about it. Probably confirms to her that I'm crazy.

I just saw this:

If I wanted something easy to fly, I'd fold myself another paper airplane. I've seen the "Jump Jets" as we called them, fly years ago and KNEW they'd be difficult to control. What I still can't understand (from what little I've read) is how they can turn in a hover. But having this in my hangar is going to be great. Edit: even paper airplanes have some control issues.

Thanks. Are we there yet?:)

Just bought the Harrier. I don't have time to read all the forum notes and Google has nothing on it: when is it scheduled to be released? I heard somewhere, end of November.

Can I bring along some popcorn or potato chips? I hereby warn all fast movers with weapons: I will be in my trusty Cessna 150 and will clear the skies with my BB gun! It locks on to pilot grins so SMILE! Seriously, I'll do my best to be there. That's just after lunch, Monday, in Toronto.

I created and flew a single player mission where I knew exactly where 3 or 4 targets were because I placed them. Yet, when flying an approach with a Rifle intent, I could hardly see them on the TGP. True, I could eventually lock on and launch, but if I had NOT known they were there, the IR screen would have been useless, WHOT or BHOT. I had just figured it was me and my myopia. :/ http://media.defenceindustrydaily.com/images/ELEC_ATFLIR_Imagery_lg.jpg from 12 years ago and 38 miles away (70 km!)

I have not been flying the 51 lately so I cannot comment on the meat and potatoes of this thread. That said, I had a great belly laugh when I read Zimmerdylan's comment. :megalol:

In-Ground Blue Solar Blanket 18 x 36 ft. Rect. - NS430 http://www.inyopools.com/Products/01300008001033.htm But the GPS sounds like a better deal for DCS.

I think it can go without saying: AI in DCS isn't all that Intelligent. As a consequence, the developers have taken short cuts to get some semblance of useful AI (such as bandits seeing through trees and mountains.) Years ago, I was an AI researcher and was often surprised at how a beautifully functioning AI system can suddenly, and strangely, do some of the silliest things for no apparent reason yet still follow coded logic either given or acquired on its own. Human beings have had 200,000 years to develop biological intelligence enough to allow high quality email texting. Yet, even after all these years, traffic at most metropolitan centers are hilarious studies in Gordian Knots. The news for AI isn't all that bad, though. From Boston Dynamics, we have learned how to get physical machines to walk and run. We have also discovered what is now called Deep Learning and with this concept in mind, researchers have managed to explore several different artificial worlds such as Chess and the Chinese game of Go. DCS has a long way to go before an artificial ATC can suffice in place of a human one. But it still is the absolute top in the field of flight simulators. Nevertheless, I urge all developers to "keep on keeping on!" And I thank you all for doing what you have thus far and what you plan to do in the future.

Feature Request: Realistic Mustang Start-up Dynamics
=Mac= replied to Magic Zach's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I am CERTAINLY not criticising your engine sounds via keyboard! To be sure, this is why I post this. Your description is exactly what I have seen the Merlins do. Jay Leno has a trailer mounted Merlin with a beautiful shiny prop. I watched him on YT struggle with a start. Awesome video, too. For the sake of reality in a study sim, the startups as you described would be one helluva finishing touch to the DCS Pony. -
G Composition First flyby. I don't think there is anything in the air, not F-15, not Su-33, nor even any ordinance, that can express the strain of power that the P-51 in that flyby expressed to my ears. As much as I love all western aircraft in DCS, the Pony is my favorite. Thanks Jafa.

It's still a mistake. It shouldn't be dependent upon your computer's draw distance setting at all. A real TGP would not do this. It should be a simple math fix for the TGP.

Iran Air Flight 655 was a scheduled Iran Air passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai. On 3 July 1988, the aircraft operating on this route was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes under the command of William C. Rogers III. The incident took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, and on the flight's usual flight path. The aircraft, an Airbus A300 B2-203, was destroyed by SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles fired from Vincennes. All 290 people on board died. Real life military involvement in civilian aviation. Can DCS simulate THIS type of Fog Of War? The Yakovlev Yak-40 (Russian: Яковлев Як-40; NATO reporting name: Codling) is a small, three-engined airliner. It is the world's first commuter trijet. The maiden flight was made in 1966, and it was in production from 1967 to 1981. Introduced in September 1968, the Yak-40 has been exported since 1970. But in DCS, the Yak 40 is AI only. Sometimes, civilian aircraft intrude into the military conflict environment. A military mission is occasionally necessary which can be quite tricky. (9/11 being case in point. What do you do? What are the ROE in such cases? With DCS Straits of Hormuz coming up, civilian operations including the human element are mandatory, I would think.)

Oh, eh, guys.... It's going to be released in Beta this weekend. I spoke to Wags on the phone this morning. Uh... Wade-a-minute.... That was only a dream. But.... Helluva good one, eh? :D Anyway, it's on the way to my hangar!

I just don't understand. People are using words like "good" and "nice" when the words I would use are "Absotively Awesome!" and "Oh my god!" With those Ponies roaring and those Horsemen flying in formation... we need better words than what I could come up with. Yeah, I loved your video! :D

I put an M1A2 vs a Tiger II. The Tiger II obliterated the M1. Range on the Tiger was almost double of the M1. So.... In comes the A-10C with the TGP (didn't work) and Mavs... Never got to try them. Okay.... GUNS!!!! Two seconds of direct hits by the Hog's 30mm. Nothing. The Tiger II just sat there idling. I laughed: Yup, this is still in Alpha release. I'll give the ED boys a couple more months to play with the damage stuff. But.... the graphics are beyond awesome! The Huey went house hopping for almost an hour until wifey complained of the rotor noise! (It was well into the night.) I really don't care about the fighting. The Normandy graphics are worth twice what I paid! Thanks Eagle Dynamics and everyone else who is making this all up!

Thanks. Just downloaded the zip file onto my house server. Will transfer the zip to the gaming machine and run it when I get time. (I'll be soooo glad when I retire at the end of the year....)

I haven't had the chance to do anything to the Mig so I still get the invalidation key even though I've had the module since it's release. I just uninstalled the module so I don't get the flash-window. Why can't an update just fix the problem. I don't have time to do it at the moment.
-
I noticed last week that the Mig couldn't run. I was going to send in a gripe but real life activities distracted me. Today, I read this thread. For me, as long as they are trying to put this back together again, as long as they KNOW about this problem, I'm happy to just wait until the dust settles and we are all happy cutting contrails in the virtual air again. Keep on keeping on, guys.
