  1. Yes, as Tietze said, if you can play BS2 instead (wich is essentially BS1 made almost perfect and DCS world compatible), just leave BS1 out of the picture.
  2. Dear Razbam people, Do you have an agreement with Dassault for your Mirage? I realize this question could very well be asked to you a dozen times per day, and worse, holds answers too sensitive for low level sim grunts like me, but so far my researches has returned nothing clear on that matter. I'm asking this because like many others, I really, really, really want to get your Mirage module, and I heard that Dassault was not too cooperative with the public sim market. Anyway, thanks a lot for your efforts and cool work. So far, this looks amazing.
  3. Oh I have no doubt about that. But some people (granted, not a lot) *cannot* use Teamspeak, for various reasons. That said, your server, your rules. I wish you more fun with your new settings, and hope to see some of you eguys on another servers, from time to time.
  4. Too bad. I used to play on your server on regular basis (callsign "Gédéon"). I can't use TS, so I guess that's an adios. Congrats on the popularity, and good luck maintaining it.
  5. AI wingmen during the campaigns ranks from braindeads to Einsteins. Depending on the mission you should either let them do all the work like it's nothing for them, or do everything you can to prevent them from taking off in the first place. One thing they are useful for in any case, including the braindeads, is scanning for and spotting enemies. It's like a button you press to ask the game "show enemies".
  6. The engine exhaust trail is a really good way to spot planes from a distance. You're sure you want to lose that feature?
  7. So obviously, if your laser is burned out, you would not know that you are at 5-6 km from your target by reading the Schkval only, and you would not get the "C" clearance. Hence your laser is not burned out. I'll make another wild guess. Is, by any chance, the auto/manual switch for weapon release on "manual"? If it is on "manual", you'll always get "C" displayed and will be able to fire your missile, even if your firing angle and/or range is completely incorrect.
  8. Bushmanni and Fishbreath described two tactics you should use to come to a stop fast. Here's another one you probably should not use (note the emphasis on "probably"): slam your collective to nul, and go for a cobra (that's 90°, nose to the sky) as fast as you can. Maintain the angle for 2 seconds or less. Brutal stop garanteed. Also, good luck with the aftermath :p You'll gain altitude, albeit not much if you're fast enough. The success of the maneuver essentially rely on your ability to release the barbarian inside you. Think "Conan in a chopper".
  9. I think you're not lazy enough for your own good. Here's how I use the trim: with at least three AP channels on, I hold the trimmer, point my machine in the good direction, at a convenient speed, release the trimmer and yell "to infinity, and beyond" (not mandatory). And the nice AP takes me there, smooth as silk. That's how lazy I am. You can be even lazier, thanks to the AP. If your PVI800 has a WP route programmed, just check that at three (mandatory) AP channels are on, engage en-route mode, and go to sleep. No trim involved.
  10. I'd be surprised if those 3° roll and less than good heading are not what will make you love your trim button and get used to trimming in the KA, after a while :D Have you tried the flight director? It seems to me that it would fit your flying style nicely. But maybe I'm wrong.
  11. And in that department, I'm such a bad ass compared to those sissy real life pilots :D
  12. Exactly. Studying and learning the various systems of the KA or the A10 or other study sim is indeed time consuming, but still less tedious than learning by heart a bazillion of keyboard shortcuts consisting of ctrl+alt+shift+cold water button+spacebar epicness. And more fun, too, but I digress. Anyway, while I'm definitely more interested in the study sim level of DCS, I'm glad that more accessible, casual sims are available for DCS. That means more people playing DCS.
  13. I hereby declare this statement absolutely rational. For the same reason, as a KA pilot I also like the fact that most helos take off from Batsumi (or "Bullymi", for most planes who had the pleasure of being greeted by the local bunch of tourist-friendly helos :D ). Great server, btw. Thanks for it guys!
  14. I schooled myself as well :D Aaaah, good ol' manual.
  15. You may be right, I might confuse stuff myself. I'll double check that. (edit:) from the manual: "To use the Vikhr‟s proximity fuze that will detonate the warhead with a near miss, turn on the “ВЦ”(Airborne target) button from the Targeting Mode Control Panel. Depending on the target‟s aspect (attack hemisphere), it may be necessary to adjust the missile‟sproximity fuze delay. If performing a pursuit or side attack, fuze adjustment is not required. If attacking at high aspect (in the Head-onhemisphere) it is necessary to decrease the fuze delay in order to increase hit probability. From the Targeting Mode Control Panel, press the “ППС” (Head-on hemisphere) button to do so."
  16. First thing first, know that helos are not really supposed to engage each others. That said, if you have a chance to waste one, enjoy. In that case, here are some tips: -the A/A mode will detonate the missile before it actually hit the target. The blast and sharpnels have better luck to do damages than counting on an actual hit. As you noticed already, it can be pretty difficult. -Wait for a good angle from your target. Typically, anything else than profile. -KAs have laser detection capabilities. If I get a laser warning, be sure I'll make you work for that kill. And if you're also in a helo, I'll be successful 90% of the time. So If you can, avoid using your laser. -Hueys are nasty little bastards. If you spot one from far enough, vickhr it to death, it's a breeze. BUT if you are at its guns reach, you'd better brace yourself. Its angle of fire is larger and the AI gunner is, well, AI. Avoid engaging it at close range. -regarding fast aquisition, you can see why A/A engagement is not a KA speciality. Once you managed to put your shvkhal screen on target using your HMS (unzoomed), follow it and try to lock it whenever you can.
  17. No, you don't have to lock anything. It's the schkval sight that actually gives the right input to the auto-turn to target function. As Nickexists said, make sure your AP channels are on (mainly the heading channel). Engage the auto-turn function and uncage the schkval. Your helo will point towards the desired direction. If it's not clear enough, I can make a track for you, showing the whole process.
  18. Well I gave it a *shot* (most horrible pun intended). I'm now single again. Thank you, good sir, I can now come back to what matters most in the world: optimizing my startup sequence so the DNS does not take ages to come online.
  19. Like many others, I'd say that language barrier is one reason. But not the only one. -I prefer text chat because you are not disturbed half as much as with vocal chat. It can get very noisy, very fast. -As some other people said, in this kind of game I would rather have a realistic radio com and speak only to people I'd be supposed to speak with in such situations. -I look stupid enough with my TrackIR set on the head, so I'm reluctant to add disgrace to annoyance by bothering my girlfriend with geeky chat from outter space (because, let's face it, we hardcore sim fans all speak like geeks from outter space). My sexual life is still slightly more important than my virtual pilot skills.
  20. Yes please!:D
  21. Everytime you buy a module, ED sends you various rather interesting emails. One of them even includes the key for your product. And this is pretty much unlosable. Joy :D
  22. -that's probably because it was a very long hold, as in, very long. -The sequence in wich you prepare your fire is not that important, as long as all systems required are online. For example, you could switch master arm on after laser standby, it has no impact on the process. -Yes, it's exactly what it does. -Yes, but his ramp start checklist is true to the original training. I think his goal was actually to redo the original training missions as they existed in BS1, or the training vids available, or close enough. I may be wrong, though. Anyway he did a really fine job and they are quite a boost in the learning process.
  23. -I thought the same at first. But in fact, you'll still have to make a very minor adjustment. Not at every shot. I'll try and explain why with my less than stellar competences: the missile pylons axis are not aligned with the helo heading axis. Since the "auto-turn" feature uses the helo heading for reference, depending on the situation you will have a slight gap between both axis. You will then have to manually remove that gap. See how the large missile reticle change position between two missile shot? That's because it switches from one axis to the other. The helo heading, on the other hand, remains the same. It will realign between shots at its original heading. It is still much easier than having to maneuver your helo yourself, though. -Your laser was engaged at first, but at some point (when you are engaging the targets for instance) it's not anymore. Could it be that you hit the switch unwillingly? -Yes, you need to hold the "uncage shkval" command ("o", by default). Aim with the HMS, hold "o", and the shval will slew all the way to your designated target area. -Depends. I do both. On that track I clicked the cockpit buttons to specifically show you some stuff, but most of those commands are mapped on my stick. -I assume you're talking about the take off sequence? If you hear again, you should notice that i press (and hold) trim right at the beginning, when the wheels are not on the ground anymore. I tend to fly with a lot of trim hold. Some will prefer constant and regular adjustments. Your choice, here. Whatever suits you is good. But DO trim :) BTW, have you tried Bigfoot training missions for the KA50? http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/173790/index.php They are excellently done and fully integrated in the training menu. If you did not already, I strongly suggest you give them a try.
  24. I took the liberty of redoing a portion of your track and tried to point out some remarks. Feel free to have a look at it. -Prior to take off, your AP heading, pitch and bank channels should be ON, your alt channel should be OFF. You won't believe how easier it will be ;) -Trimming, man. Trimming! We all do that differently, many schools out there, but we all do that. Trim+AP=this chopper is quite a breeze to fly. In this track, I hold the trim button from the moment the wheels leave the ground to when I'm satisfied with my helo attitude and heading. -My flying style is somewhat rough, but note that I try to watch my speed and altitude so they are consistant and constant. -For the sake of it, I used en-route mode. If you need more info about that, just ask. -(do not forget your gears) -once on spot, you can reduce speed and go into a hover. Note that I do that like a barbarian, so I may not be the best example out there, but I have one remark for you: refrain from entering auto-hover when your speed/drift velocity is more than 10. It won't be efficient. -Now I'm looking for them. I engage master arm, laser standby switch AND auto-turn+ground moving target. That last action will take over heading AP channel and point the helo in the direction you slew your schkval. Much easier that way. Again, need details, ask. -It appears you did not engage laser standby mode in your track. Hence the impossibility to get a distance display. -When firing missiles, the system will alternate between pylons, to keep things even. That's why you have such a position difference between the two reticles, from one missile to another. As you did in your track, simply adjust that with small rudder inputs. -I took the liberty of showing you how to actually override the auto-clearance to fire missiles. It is very useful in many, many situations (mine is always in manual mode). -The bit about getting out of auto-hover and speed issue has been nicely covered by ZaltysZ, so I won't repeat it. ka50 shot oper_V2.trk
