  1. What a delight to fly!!! I just got out of the cockpit after a first flight and ED's done a wonderful job. The level of details adds much more realism and speed perception. Here's my flight plan: I took off from Nellis after configuring my Su-27 controls. I placed a few other aircraft to put some life around the airbase: A couple of L-39C with some low flying waypoints - they didn't make it to the end, probably crashed… 4*F-15E flying around. 2*Su-27 (Russian Knights) roughly following my flight plan landing at Groom Lake. 2*F-5E Agressors flying around Nellis and orbiting. (I forgot to include the USAF Agressors "country" when I created the mission and I had to tweak the ROE, radar, and Threat Reaction options - so it does not go boom instantly) Flying above the Hoover dam and through the strip was just amazing. I almost crashed into a palm tree and probably gave it a free hair cut (I think I lost my drag chute). I've been careful all along and not too adventurous with the low flying (something like 60 feet/20 metres above the ground @ 700-800 km/h / 400 kts at best, in the desert). From what I've seen on Google Earth/Maps and some pictures, the Groom Lake facility has been carefully recreated and I was very pleased to find that little surprise… Overall it's a fantastic experience and the rendering performance is really good (GTX 970 + not so powerful hardware). I'll just drop my custom mission here and if you're interested, the track is available via Dropbox (too big for the forum). Keep in mind it might be boring to watch as I was just having fun and observing all the lovely details. I've been lucky enough to cross one Albatros and I landed a few minutes before the other flankers… It's time to get a chopper now ;) Have fun guys! It's worth all the struggle with the download speed! Su-27 test flight #01 - Nellis.miz
  2. After a quick check, it's probably due to copyright limitations for commercial use. Recently, I've been using a FSX scenery (payware) to get familiar with the Nevada region and those landmarks/PoI were in. Nothing crucial. Also, the "OMG Brand" made me smile :)
  3. Thanks for sharing! I have a question though: why are the Eiffel tower and the Statue of Liberty missing? Because it's an alpha version?
  4. Excellent! Thanks for the info!
  5. I'll definitely take my cyrillic-stuffed Su-27 down the strip at full speed, sunset, starting airborne and high, somewhere east, not far from the Hoover dam. Then I'll go check the Groom Lake facility before it's too dark with a NOE sneaky approach, just for fun. I'll land and buy a drink to the grays there. Next, I'll get a Black Shark at Mc Carran around 0700 (that's a clever suggestion) and I'll fly low and slow, land here and there, and I'll probably loose my jaw before reaching the tower… (unless I try to cut the Sphinx nose with the rotor first) And, oh… yes, I'll definitely crash into some trees.
  6. It looks much more comfortable for a visual approach. My neck is already happy! Thanks for sharing the screenshots!
  7. I think it's been mentioned somewhere in another thread that the current behavior is not what it should be, and that the devs are going to modify it for a more realistic resistance. Try the search function. It can't be buried that deep.
  8. Most of the additional features are map related though. (possibly more graphical effects and skeletal animations for the infantry in 2.0) 1.5 OB will probably benefit from the 2.0 Alpha recent development.
  9. Exciting news! Xmas 12 o'clock hot! Is there any good thread including interesting documents about the Nevada map, please? (main PoI, flight plans, maps, data, etc.)
  10. That's great news indeed! Thanks for the information GeorgeLKMT! In a recent Q&A from Wags it was said it was not scheduled but they were considering the option (it seemed like a very low priority at the time) - iirc. After all, DCS is all about combat, so it felt logical they were not focused on a civilian version. Thanks a million for working on that variant ED  <3
  11. There are some great advice and info in that thread! Thanks guys! A few weeks ago I created a quick conversion reference for my tablet: It's based on a multi-layered Photoshop/Illustrator file and I'm supposed to edit specific overlays for specific aircraft highlighting some values (like the blades salad for the Ka-50 :music_whistling:). So it's not supposed to be that black and white boring scales, but use it if you like. Like some of you said, I also tend to fly with the parameters I need to be comfortable with, depending on the aircraft, regardless of the system. I just know the more familiar your are with a system, the less you need to compare it to another one. Eventually, it just feels natural. Even if I prefer my altitude in metres :D
  12. Depending on your shoe size, the dimensions on the floor/stand are roughly 40cm*26cm (16in*10in).
  13. I had to uninstall FC3 to enable the Chinese or a custom cockpit in DCS (non-Steam, Su-27 module). It seems I have to restart DCSW to have the correct cockpit textures. Also the mirrors do not display any reflection with any of those cockpits enabled.
  14. I'm glad to report the torrent protocol was a efficient method for my location and ISP. I reached a pretty stable 1MB/s DL speed (ADSL 16 Mb/s) (which is good). I hope everyone will be happy with the torrent DL for the upcoming 2.0. Is there a way to continue seeding the torrent when we'll have downloaded the whole update?
  15. Thanks for the advice, Sokol. I'll see how far I can go with that idea ;)
  16. Sure ;) We're luckier than the actual Su-27 pilots in that regard. The best way to operate the controls is the one you're comfortable with. I was happy to discover ED has implemented such a specific control (the SAU switch) and I remembered from my tinkering with the controller and config software that it was possible to assign a long press to another button. There are so much capabilities that I'm even considering modifying a BM stick to add an analogic slew control (2-axis). But I'm not sure it's possible. I'll try to gather some info but VKB is extra-busy right now.
  17. Same failure loop here. In the track attached I was surprised I managed to check the damn grinning gate and I thought I was already too low and slow, I didn't focus on the controls, ready to restart one more time but it seems it may, like some quantum probability, very may, be possible. And even if it's not stochastically feasible, the search for the perfect trajectory and speed is thrilling ;) We need more runs like this one!
  18. Good necro is good. I think there was another thread about that lately. Weirdly enough, I don't have any issue with the mission start (except for the annoying zoom-out effect) but I tried, and tried, and tried, and I can't manage to pass through one of the last turns. I even tried with a pseudo-Cobra-turn. It may be possible but probably by pushing the Flanker to the limit of its current-and-more-realistic flight model (or I just suck at it). I didn't know the mission was originally designed for the P-51D. The mission design is pretty old and the gates were set for an SFM Flanker (I think I remember that mission back in FC3). I'd love to see a completed run video/track with the current flight model! (one of my recent attempts attached) OB 151_River Run crash #02.trk
  19. Thanks for sharing, Iberian! Now that's what is called a seeker missile. It's tempting to test some offensive Cobras even if it should probably be the very last resort maneuver… The OLS-27 viewing angle is something like +60°/-15° vertical and +-60° horizontal iirc? As far as I can remember from a visit to some staff at an israeli stand (Le Bourget), the Python family has some serious hi-G turns capabilities. I'm wondering how efficient they could be in similar conditions. :)
  20. Hey there, I found a pretty neat configuration to simulate that function with the VKB Black Mamba/Fat Black Mamba (like the real Su-27 ;) ). If you want more information, please check this post in the Black Mamba thread.
  21. To the lucky Black Mamba/Fat Black Mamba and Su-27 for DCS owners: you can use the main trigger (almost) like the one in the real Su-27 ED implemented the autopilot-temporary-bypass (гашетка сау) for the single trigger sticks, altering the "weapon release" button behavior when you hold it while using any navigation sub-modes (МРШ (ROUTE), ВЗВ (RETURN), ПОС (LANDING), and the one without any task). (more details in that thread - thanks to rrohde ). I was using the Black Mamba main trigger to engage/disengage the autopilot (default key: A) and the secondary trigger (the one you can lock in a raised position) for the "weapon release". And I didn't want to use the same button twice in order to have that neat function on the main trigger. Therefore, I modified the BM configuration to remove the "weapon release" function from the main trigger while using it as the гашетка сау function. Basically, it defines the main trigger as two distinct buttons: one with a short press and another button with a long press and hold (held as long as you hold the trigger). Unless I hold the main trigger in a combat mode, it's a dedicated AP button and the secondary trigger remains the dedicated "weapon release" trigger (and it can remain in the raised/locked position while flying in a non-threatening airspace). It's not perfect but it's closer to the real Su-27 triggers. Here's how to configure the trigger using the VKB Device Config software: change the button 2 function to a "Tempo" function (instead of "Button") choose "TEMPO 2" assign the button 1 to the secondary function (in red) I hope this can be useful to help you having even more fun with your Su-27!
  22. More details about 1.5/2.0/NTTR map here (FAQ & Discussion thread). Afaik: no specific aircraft behavior, air-air weapons, etc. development as it's an ongoing effort to improve DCSW.
  23. Thanks for reporting that important info Sokol ;) I think I'll order mine soon.
  24. Thanks for your support guys! As a french citizen and a former parisian, I rushed to check with all my friends there (and everyone's ok fortunately). That's a tragic event and I'd also like to express my support to my country and my people.
