  1. Yes, that dynamic light issue is not fixed (let's hope they're reworking the rendering). Static objects and aircraft are not affected by any dynamic light source (flares, landing lights, navigation lights, full moon, etc.). I can't think they'll release 1.5 without these, so it will be there soon (I guess) ;)
  2. Increase your speed and you'll know your ACS is off ;)
  3. It's in Options -> Misc. -> Head Movement by G-Forces in Cockpit If you take some time with the PFMs, you'll see it's much much more interesting and realistic, and most of all: a delight to fly. As the Su-27 is unstable by design, you may want to use the trim to stabilize the aircraft first, then play around that (set the trim for a good maneuverability speed (around 500 km/h would be a good start)). No need to go full throttle ! There are several threads about similar considerations.
  4. Great update ! Thanks to ED's hard work, it's shaping up really well. The new sounds (the F-15C in-cockpit afterburner subtle sound is great!), the reworked options items, the almost-complete 3D encyclopedia (many entries were missing at initial 1.5 release), all the improvements are heading to the 2.0 milestone. I can only think the Nevada experience is going to be exhilarating! Congratulations! (no issues upgrading here, except for the (infinite) cleaning-up… bug)
  5. Same guess here. I even tried to activate the fuel dump within the recommended parameters (speed/altitude) (Su-27SK manual) but it did not release any fuel faster than the engines consumption ;) It's probably an old FC3 bug or a not-fully-integrated feature.
  6. The FC3 Su-33 has an "autothrust" autopilot mode (default key: J) (check your controls settings). It will stabilize your speed and your throttle control will become ineffective during that mode) (and this is where a temporary autopilot bypass is great for adjusting the speed with tiny corrections without completely disconnecting the AP ;) ) >>> related <<< It's the "авт тяги" button on the autopilot panel (left console) (not animated in the sim). The Su-33 autopilot is more advanced than the Su-27 system. If you're interested: [source] [brutal Google translation… "Brootle Translate"?]
  7. Another great thing about the new gimbal is that we'll be able to mix the axis feelings. (as it will be provided with two cams sets) For example: a firm center for the roll axis, and a soft center for the pitch axis. :) That should isolate the centered (no-roll) pitch input and soften the pitch transitions (crossing the center) with sustained bank. That possibility alone is a great incentive to buy an upgrade kit…
  8. Ahah :) Yes. Thanks Sokol. I've considered this idea for a while now. I also stumbled upon that neat mod pic but I didn't find the original post. Do you know if there's a description somewhere? The next level would be to include a brake (lever) axis and a 2-axis slew control! And the NJoy32 controller is already up for that task… How frustrating.
  9. I remember Wags answered that in a Q&A video and it's not on the menu. Real shots for now. They didn't consider the simulated shots in a near future, partly because it would imply a significant work on the AI (iirc).
  10. I replied >>> here <<< to avoid cluttering ;)
  11. From another thread: Here are my first impressions about a year ago. The stick build quality still feels better than my X-55 throttle (some buttons start to feel "weaker"/less responsive) (I never used CH products so I can't compare the build quality), but I know at least one user had some problems with the 3-position switch (false contact or similar). That switch doesn't feel very resistant and it's a bit tiny. Every buttons/switch on my stick are still in perfect shape, but I'm not flying several hours a day. The two triggers use snap-action microswitches and you have that distinctive "click" feeling (like a mechanical key). As they do not require a lot of force to be operated, they don't wear easily. That's a good thing. I'm still not comfortable with the button on the left, pressed with the thumb. The movement it requires definitely feels unnatural. I know the stick design is pretty old (2008 ) and based on the Su-34 version. Imho, the "pinky lever/button" also feels a bit fragile and its activation is not great (not firm enough). The good thing is that you can retract the lever out of the way when you don't need it (I use it as a modifier in DCS). Overall, I like the stick ergonomics and I really don't mind the plastic build. I would have loved an analogic stick for the slew control and a solid brake lever. It's definitely a good match with the Su-27 as you can bind most of the real controls to the same buttons. Here's my reference picture: First hat for the TRIM, second hat for the slew control. You can use the pinky lever as the brake lever. The central picture shows the base encoder, used as a rudder trimmer/reset trim button in the sim. Here's the Su-27 stick: The Black Mamba stick feels supercomfortable with the Su-27 ;) Now, about the opportunity to grab the Fat Black Mamba: in my opinion, it can be a great choice. The new gimbal can only be better than the previous version and it's a surgical instrument. But I see you own a nice CH throttle and all those buttons on the base were designed to upgrade a single stick used without any throttle (the Fat King Cobra). With a common HOTAS use, you probably won't touch those controls a lot. That's why I bought a Black Mamba instead of a Fat Black Mamba. The BM is meant to be used in combination with a throttle, and with an extender (if you wish) (and fixed between your feet). But more options does not hurt ;) And I know VKB chose very good quality buttons and switches for the base. If I'm not mistaken, the Gunfighter base will be sold only with the KG12 stick (you should contact VKB about that). Maybe there are just a few BM sticks left. Another good thing: VKB is still working on a modern (metal) stick version (PAK FA/Su-35-like), and it will be compatible with your Fat Black Mamba. But I won't expect it before 2017… So: the Mamba is close to the Su-27 real stick (and other russian sticks), the gimbal is top-notch for the price range, the stick buttons are not meant for industrial use but they still do the job without failing (at least for me) - better than Saitek build quality. And it will be a good match with your T-Rudder MkIII. ;) I hope this helps.
  12. There's no official announcement yet, but I assume there will be two cams sets, or maybe we'll have to choose between two options. @VO101_MMaister: that's some serious gimbal! The viscous dampers themselves are a radical choice (for a very different price range apparently ;)). Was it a personal project?
  13. Nice find, rrohde! That's exactly how the Su-27 stick main trigger is supposed to behave. (H бар stands for barometric altitude) ;) (гашетка сау) I assume they have included the closest thing to the real deal on most of the available HOTAS sticks (and imho, that's a clever decision). When the pilot press and hold that trigger, it temporarily disables the engaged autopilot mode/ACS (сау) mode and the pilot can modify the parameters on the fly before releasing the trigger and then re-engaging the same autopilot mode. It's like a quick autopilot adjustment/bypass trigger. It should be effective in any autopilot mode (including the navigation mode). As a VKB Black Mamba owner, I bound the general autopilot mode to the primary trigger and the weapon release on the secondary trigger. I was dreaming of that kind of function for the Su-27 as it reflects how it's supposed to be operated. Now, it would be amazing to have a separate "autopilot bypass function" in the controls menu items :joystick: If there's a way to modify the configuration files to tweak that behavior, please do share any advice. Very nice !
  14. Here's the new gimbal! (cams) (there should be two versions of cams design: firm and soft center) (an upgrade kit should become available for the Mamba MkI and MkII owners) Apparently, there are a very few Fat Black Mamba MkIII (including the new gimbal) available (pre-order). More info with the official press release (.pdf) (Stratojet news).
  15. Dayum! ^^ We can't say our beloved sim lack some serious details!
  16. I tried a few quick custom missions and it's like the dynamic lights do not affect the objects, only the ground texture. Same lack of lighting with the flares, gear light and navigation lights, full moon, not casting any light on the models. I'm pretty sure they're well aware of these issues by now (or at least, they will when they'll catch up with the first work day of the week ;) ).
  17. I got that "Cleaning up" frozen issue and I just killed the tasks (close the window with a right click + close or kill them with the task manager) and then restarted DCS Open Beta without any issue. I'm not sure it's perfectly safe (leftover files?) but as it's a beta version, it should be fine for the time being. My OB install is running fine even after some mild spanking. Also, the issue with the trees/rendering has been reported. They can't stop working!
  18. Great detail! I've never seen a mirror in a L-39 cockpit. It looks like the pilot grabbed one from his kid's bike ^^
  19. Thanks for the info rrohde! I'm still downloading… (5GB more to go!) Too bad they didn't find the time to include a detailed change log, but I'm really happy to see those improvements
  20. Same ;) Please, let us know what you think about the overall build quality, stereo image (probably narrow due to the closed design?), comfort (warm after a long flight?), and whatever you deem worth mentioning. I'm looking for a dedicated headset I'd modify with a fixed IR emitter. Also, you can try the Razer Surround software (virtual 7.1) if you're interested. No idea how it could enhance your DCS experience.
  21. It's nice to hear you have plans! Not exactly. I was thinking about the shortcuts you can create with the DCS kneeboard (using the keybindings) (up to 10 shortcuts available): you hit a key and it assigns the current kneeboard page to a first shortcut, rinse and repeat. I thought it could be useful to mark a page and access it via a submenu. Of course, there are several GUI solutions to achieve that but there's a pretty neat feature I use in a GPS app (OruxMaps): you tap the screen once (in a specific area) and a few overlay icons appear. From there you can choose a submenu/function (like a bookmark list and a bookmark button?). The icons fade out after a few seconds. (even the main title/menu bar appears that way) It's just a rough idea but accessing different pictures/reference tables could be useful and I was thinking about a dropdown list you could deploy from the main title bar or an overlay icon you could "call" by tapping on the screen (as mentioned above). It would be a temporary display and when you close the picture (Android back button or dedicated button), you return to the previous kneeboard display. It would avoid switching kneeboards while using reference map/cartography/whatever and accessing temporary details (target details, flight plan, reminders, etc.). It could be a "temp" folder you feed with your current mission data or a selection of subfolders defined like the kneeboards folders? There are plenty of solutions and ideas but I know it would be best to avoid too much complexity as the kneeboard should remain a quick reference tool. Keeping it simple should also save your free time significantly ;) But, hey, it's a sim and we can hit the pause key if we're not struggling in multiplayer. :D
  22. Nice app! Thanks for providing a new tool! I like the categories with the custom icons. It allows a quick kneeboard selection. I'd have some UI improvements suggestions: - swipe left/right for previous/next kb picture (current previous/next buttons are small for quick access/control) - restrict the zoom out view to the 1:1 depending on the device - allow double tap zoom (default to 200%?) and double tap to return to the default zoom (100%) - "double tap zoom" centers the zoomed picture on the last tap position (x,y) - on-the-fly bookmarks (like the DCS kneeboard function)? - jumplists? (I'm thinking about common (or kb specific) references you would want to display (canals and radio frequencies, mission objectives details/maps, any learning reference, etc.) - bigger kneeboard icon (faster visual selection) (tile/grid) with title overlay? I'm currently using QuickPic as a kneeboard app (in explorer mode using a dedicated DCS subfolder) and it's rather comfortable but not as focused as your app could be. I'm also using the DCS World Encyclopedia app for the general reference and airbase quick info (great app). Some dedicated functions would really shine and I'd gladly pay for a more advanced package ;) Good luck and thanks again!
  23. Here's a different angle: It's all smoke and mirrors, obviously. Simulating reflections has always been a performance hog. I overheard DCS 10.0 will feature realtime reflections ;)
  24. Excellent work Markindel! Do you know if you have a way to smooth the curved surface rendering? (I think there's a parameter somewhere but I can't recall how to do it)
  25. There's a way to fix that reflection by modifying the HUD texture. It will be less cumbersome by night. Even the Ka-50 (DCS level simulation) is not perfect in that regard (it's the same HUD model). Unlike the Su-27 HUD, the Ka-50 HUD projector "reflection/halo" intensity is reduced with the display intensity level but the HUD 3D model lighting effect is still the same though. Most of the aircraft do not have any HUD "reflection" texture.
