  1. It is not the name of the file displayed in the drop down, it is the name inside of it, I believe in quotation marks, e. g. "3 camera" or '3 camera'. It needs to be different than in other files. So if you made a copy but only renamed the file without touching that specific line inside of it, you might get the issue you have. In fact it is the line name = _('3 camera'); where '3 Camera' can be any name. This name gets displayed in the dropdown.
  2. You should consider to go for the 9100 series of Samsung NVME drives, they are PCI-E 5.0, which is supported by the X870E board.
  3. Thanks for the link, a very detailed comparison.
  4. Hi folks, again the itching in my fingers started and it might be time for an upgrade. Let me explain the current situation. I´m all fine with my setup, most of the times can run DCS without issues. Coming from the 5800X, I already saw a slight improvement by upgrading to the 5800X3D I have today. In smaller SP missions the GPU is utilized by 100%, so it is the "weak point" at that times. When flying on a crowded MP server like 4YA, the GPU only shows a utilization of appr. 60-70%, so I believe there is some room for improvement, as I fly mostly MP. Does anybody have some experience with this CPU (5800X3D -> 9800X3D) and platform (AM4 -> AM5, DDR4 -> DDR5) upgrade and can share some results? Thanks in advance and have a great day, Roland
  5. You should aim for a 9800X3D processor, min. 64 GB of fast and low latency RAM and a proper GPU. If you stick at the 4k monitor an AMD RX 7900 XTX card is definitely worth to think about, as it is much bang for the bucks. If you aim for VR you should consider to buy a NVidia card, a similar one to the AMD is the RTX 4080 Super. This is how I would actually upgrade my PC. I don´t know about your budget or what your actual rig looks like. Take care, Xoxen

  7. I have the mentioned 49" wide sreen from Samsung and am very satisfied with it. I tried VR but got some motion sickness. Having such a wide screen display leads to a fisheye effect at both sides. Not that dramatical as you cannot clearly see the complete display at all if you focus on something, but I wanted to mention this. If you have any question about it, let me know. The only thing which can beat this display is the Samung 57", which actually has my attention. But it seems that they have some issues with reliability.
  8. I´m using a Matrox Triple Head2Go to connect 3 displays which is then seen as 1 in Windows. Respectively I was able to use 3 Main screens and 3 MFD screens seen as 1, 4 in total. See here for more details, maybe an option:
  9. Upgrading never ends if your are deeper into DCS Look at my sig, everything should be fine, but I´m already planning for more. Higher resolution means higher load to the GPU, so there will be an impact in FPS moving to 1440p. No clue how much. If I´m right you could simulate it in DCS. Just enter 2560x1440 into the options and DCS will calculate like this. As your screen is smaller it will partly render outside of your screen, not visible for you. In the old options menu inside DCS you can manually insert the figures, just for the case it refuses a given setting of 2560x1440 out of the dropdown menu in the launcher. I love upgrading my PC and fiddling around with DCS to get the best out of it. And after a while there is always the itch in the fingers to change something, for sure within the range of my personal budget. I´m 51 already, the budget is better nowadays Again, much fun with your new GPU and keep an eye on the temps, the ones you mentioned are definitely OK.
  10. Thanks for the pictures incl. FPS. This gives a good indication of the improvement. I'm totally with you upgrading step by step, a complete upgrade is more far away and your upgrade are low hanging fruits. And the new GPU is strong enough for the case you upgrade your Mobo/CPU/RAM anytime later. Enjoy your new experience and upgrade the broken fan asap P.S.: the FPS counter still says GPU bound, a good sign.
  11. Enjoy the new card and the boost it gives for you. Maybe it gives you more headroom for future CPU upgrades, but for now if you are happy with it, this it what counts. If you have some figures before and after it might help others in a similar situation. I'm happy that you took a decision which improves your flight experience.
  12. It would be great if you share the experience you are going to achieve. If the price is the same I also would go for the faster one, an investment into the future, one day a new CPU will come as well and you can raise the power step by step. And thanks to the others, I was not aware that DLSS does suck up CPU power. I'm not using it but always good to know. I'm actually waiting for the Ryzen 9000 and GeForce 5000 to arrive
  13. I always use MSI Afterburner to see the exact utilization, but at least this shows you seem to be GPU bound. The RTX 2080 Ti gives you the chance to use DLSS, maybe a chance to get the best out of your system. If you fly Multiplayer an upgrade of your RAM might be reasonable
  14. Definitely the RTX 2080 Ti, it is faster and should bring you more benefit. But you also could become disappointed if the CPU already now is your bottleneck. Check your GPU and CPU utilisation in your most common played mission (with MSI Afterburner or similar) to see what bottlenecks your system. If the GPU is at 100% with the 1070, invest into a GPU, if you are way below (e. g. 70%), a new GPU will be limited by the CPU again, so no or minor gain in FPS to expect. I guess in 1080p you might come faster to a CPU limit. I already did a CPU upgrade when my GPU was at 99%, I went from a 4790k to a 5800X, no gain in FPS at all. You are at the opposite way, upgrading the GPU if it is way lower than 100% would most probably end with a similar outcome. I hope you can follow my thoughts and got my point.
  15. Hi, generally your way to transfer DCS to a new PC works. I personally simply copy DCS from one drive to the other, let a repair run and that's it. If you have it on your C drive this migth get hard because of the new Win 11 installation. But you could use an external drive to park DCS there. Copying the Saved Games folder works in a good way, but your inputs might get broken because of new hardware IDs. Watch this thread for details: Link I hope this helps and much fun with the new PC. Xoxen
  16. I´m fully with you, only wanted to highlight the other options. The 3D CPU´s are quite good for VR, so the 5800X3D ist actually his cheapest choice, definately not the fastest one.
  17. You could do 2 things, depending on your budget: a) Follow the recommendation above and switch over to an AM5 system. This will give you a very good improvement CPU and RAM wise. Additionally you have the chance to upgrade to coming CPU generations. Actually I would hold on and wait fpr the 9xxx AMD CPU series, which should be launched shortly. b) You try to get the best out of your actual system by upgrading to a 5800X3D and maybe put hand on faster and more RAM (should be available 2nd hand for a good price). I did option b) and the only place being CPU bottlenecked are busy MP server, where the GPU isn´t utilized 100%, more 70%. If your budget is fine I would recommend option a), otherwise option b) is reasonable and easy to achieve. Maybe my video helps a little to get an idea of an AM4 CPU upgrade: Link to video
  18. I switched over from a 5800X to the 5800X3D and the benefit was minor, but as mentioned by someone else already the frametimes are better which gives you an overall smoother experience. I have another GPU, so the test might mislead you slightly, but shows the direction. Here is the link to the Video I created for this: Comparison 5800X vs. 5800X3D I hope this helps.
  19. My experience is that on busy servers the CPU bottlenecks more than the GPU. You can easily figure out what your brake is. Use a tool like MSI Afterburner to see the utilization of your GPU. If it is at 100% or short below you are GPU bound, because the CPU can handle the amount of work the GPU requests. If you are way below, e.g. 70%, the GPU could do more, but the CPU is not fast enough to handle the requested workload the GPU wants. I hope this helps.
  20. Same problem here. A fix would be great.
Ach ja, Afghanistan, gleich beide Teile gepreordered, also da auch schon wieder was rausgehauen. Gott sei Dank fliege ich keine Helis, der Chinook sieht schon klasse aus Edit: Wenn das so weitergeht, dann ist irgendwann auch die DCS 2 TB NVMe voll, die Kola Map ist ja mit 150 GB schon nicht die kleinste (aktuell ist sie mit 693 GB belegt, nur DCS).
  22. This was my first thought as well. I dislike the plastic gimble when it comes to tighten and untighten the nut of the stick. Having a detailed look at the videos the upper edge of the thread shows a white surface. So it could be aluminum which is painted black. Edit: The nut isn´t the worst, extensions are, because tighten them brings more force on the thread.
