  1. I would say this highly depends on the resolution you are going to play. I´m running a triple screen setup with 3x 1440p. With this I didn´t even get one single frame better than before when upgrading from a i7 4790K to a Ryzen 7 5800X. Even when upgrading from a GTX 1080Ti (which was in my system at the CPU upgrade) to a RX 6800 XT, it was only 10 percent gain. Only when switching to a RTX 3080 I got the expected benefit by having appr. 50% higher frames. So please take the resolution into consideration. My experience is, everything equal or higher than 4K resolution needs a Nvidia GPU, at least for now. Edit: Use MSI Afterburner to have a look, if the CPU or GPU is limiting. If the GPU is running at 99-100% most of the time, it is definitely limiting and a CPU upgrade might be a waste of money, like mine was in the first instance.
  2. Hi joojoo, did the Warthog ever work on your PC or is it a new one (or second hand)? You show that it is OK in the Game Controllers Window, but what happens in the properties window? If I´m not wrong there is a specific calibration tool for the Warthog which needs to be used to properly calibrate both, the stick and the throttle. Have a look over here: Link to Post at ED Forum The complete thread might be helpful. I´m not sure if the downloadable tools are the lates ones. Take care.
  3. Thanks Laurreth, as I got fooled on ebay and threw away 60 bucks for RAM I never received your idea became smarter. Used stuff is only interesting if I can pick it up personally. Again I learned this lesson the hard way. Regarding the Asus board I need to mention that i had never ever issues with it. The whole idea is on hold for now but I take your input into consideration. Thanks.
  4. Thanks for all the valuable input. I will think of it and once I take the decision I will let you know.
  5. Thanks for your input, for sure I will have a look at tve most bang for the bucks, but if someone would have said that something in the price range of 250 for the GPU would be best for the CPU to be aligned power wise, I'm at least open minded Regarding the RAM I guess I will not make any experiments.
  6. Hi, my son (11) got addicted to DCS, which is a great thing The negative point is, that he uses my PC for flying. He has an old one from me, but actually with a 1050 Ti and 8 GB of DDR3-1600 RAM. He has a display with a resolution of 1680x1050. So my idea is to upgrade the RAM to 16 GB (or even 32 GB, I read that in some cases the P55 chipset can also handle this, even though it is not official). The question I have is, what GPU makes sense at this resolution with the old CPU, to get a reasonable result. He is not addicted to eye candy as much as I am, but I want to give him the best possible experience with a relatively low amount of cost. There is not really a budged, but I would say 75 EUR for the RAM and 150-200 EUR for a used GPU. Maybe someone in this forum has some input for me to make the best out of it. The mainboard he has is a Asus P7P55D-E. Any feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks.
  7. But you already have the DDR 5 slot, this was my thinking. You can replace the RAM or the CPU whilst you are at the end of the road at the Ryzen 5000 boards with DDR 4 and AM4 socket.
  8. OK, I had a night thinking about my previous post and if I would have to invest into a new machine, I would do it as follows to be future proof. Processor: Intel CPU (e. g. 12700K) or wait for the new AMD Ryzen 7000 Series which offer the new and future proof socket AM 5. It should be launched by September. Mainboard: My experience it that it does not necessarily have to be a high end board. Something around $150 should work the same way if you are no hardcore overclocker. Look at the features the single chipsets offer. Graphics card: New ones will come up by the end of this year, but prices for Nvidia as well as AMD are dropping. My experience is, the higher the resolution, the more you benefit from Nvidia. The RTX 3080 I have is a beast, maybe you can put hands on a 3080 Ti or higher. RAM 64 GB DDR 5 RAM (DDR 4 is outdated), actualy only intel supports it, AMD will follow shortly. AMD is more sensitive to clocking speed and timings, at least it is the case for the Ryzen 5000 Series. Power supply: To be future proof you should at least head for 850W, maybe go even higher as the new upcoming GPUs should suck up more wattage. Storage: Do yourselve a favour and use a M.2 PCIE 4.0 harddisk. I have one for Windows and Programs and an own one for DCS as I play this exclusevly. The loading times are fantastic. Display: Have a look for a GSync (Nvidia) or FreeSync (AMD) compatible display. I guess a 144 Hz one is a good choice. The GSync for example takes care that the Hz of your display is in line with the FPS of your game to give you a smooth and tearing free experience. I hope this gives you a good start basis for your further observations. Feel free to ask for details if you need some.
  9. Actually the AMD CPUs are cheap, the 5800X I own is around 270 EUR and definitely enough for DCS. This in addition with a 3080 and 64GB of 3600 CL16 or 3200 CL14 RAM is a good combo. Do you want to go for a desktop PC or a Laptop. If desktop, what size of monitor are you looking for?
  10. I didn´t do anything than simply plug the third MFD in and it was recognized in the options. I do not use it at the A-10C but as it is available in the options I could simply assign the keys to something else.
  11. I tried and did so for a longer period of time. It works but at one day there seemed to be a driver issue with the intel onboard graphics. Then I installed a GT 1030 to my GTX 1080 and things were solved......I thought. I wondered about the relatively low FPS as I expected more. In a given mission it was 38 FPS. Then I replaced the GT 1030 with a GTX 1050Ti with no difference. The second card was for the monitor with the exports. The main handled 3 27" displays. But for my 3 displays behind the Cougar MFDs from Thrustmaster I needed an additional card for the connections as Nvidia can do four. To cut the long story short, the second card was a break in my system. Finally I'm running a Matrox triplehead2go and use all my 4 connections at my card. At the GTX 1080 this was a boost from 38 to 58 FPS without doing anything else. Today I'm doing the same but with a RTX 3080. It runs like charm.
  12. If you are running 1440p your CPU is good as it is. I guess there will be no difference. You can better upgrade to 64 GB of RAM if you don´t have it already.
  13. Beside of my CPU not being the 3D one and me having 64 GB of RAM the system is very similar to mine. The others nailed all points to keep into consideration already. 64 GB are usable in crowded servers and are definately a benefit. I guess you will have a lot of fun with this setup.
  14. I strongly believe this PC will give you a good performance. I'm running DCS on a tripple screen setup, but I got feedback from a friend, that VR is even more demanding. But I guess that there are good settings possible to get reasonable performance even there with what you plan to buy. Have a look at some threads in that regards. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to ask. Take care, Xoxen
  15. Hi Skyracer, I will try to answer as good as possible: ASUS GeForce RTX 3070 TI ROG Strix OC. What does "ROG strix OC" mean? ROG stands for Republic of Gamers and is a special brand for the Asus cards, kind of a premium brand. TUF stands for The Ultimate Force and is the budget line. The difference might be in the used components (e. g. condensators), but in reality the difference is not really noticeable in speed. Maybe there is more freedom for overclocking. OC stands for overclocked, so the card is already pre-overclocked by Asus. AMD or Intel? Actually I would say there is no difference. I switched from intel to AMD last year and didn´t regret, the 5800X I have is pretty fast and under the line it was a little cheaper. On the other had the AM4 socket is at the end of lifetime, repesctively the actual available intel stuff might be more future proof when it comes to CPU upgrade in a few years without changing the MoBo. Same two graphics card 3080 one is called TUF Gaming OC V2 other ends with ROG Strix OC V2. What is the difference between them? See above, what I was abe to figure out is that the TUF is slightly below the speed of the ROG, the V2 stands for a limitation in hashrate for mining. 1 TB of storage enough for DCS, my plan is to have DCS installed on one SSD? Windows in a different drive. long term ? DCS is the only game i play 1 TB should be future proof. Actually my DCS size is 289 GB and the only map I do not have is the Channel Map. I took the decision to go for 500 GB but would take a 1 TB if I would need to decide again. I hope this helps to take the right decision. If I would need to build a new PC my decision would be Intel, TUF and 1 TB.
  16. On a Server like 4YA in Syria I´m filling appr. 42 GB of RAM, so there is a benefit.
  17. I'm with you. It's a known fact that AMD improves a lot with their drivers over time. When I had the RX 6800 XT in June last year I was disappointed enough to switch back to Nvidia and didn't regret. But I play at 3x 2560x1440 and here the RAM bandwidth or whatever makes the Nvidia cards superior. If scampaboy plays at 1080 the AMD card will be as fast as the 3080 I guess.
  18. You got me wrong, the AMD card was great at low resolution but similar to the 1080Ti at very high resolution.
  19. What resolution are you playing at? I owned the RX 6800 XT and for 7680x1440 the RTX 3080 I now have outperform the AMD card in amounts. The AMD card was barely faster than the GTX 1080Ti I had before. In 2560x1440 this is not the fact, there the AMD card was strong. AMD seems to be good up to a specific resolution, I guess 4k.
  20. I think this will be possible, but will again result into performance loss compared to my system. You need to see if you want to gor for a 3 Camera or 1 Camera setup. The 1 Camera setup result into distortion (fisheye) at both outer displays. You can work on this by adjusting the head position in the Cockpit plus changing the FOV. The 3 Camera setup best work with 45 degree angled displays. Here I have limited knowledge. In case of further questions, simply ask them. Take care, Xoxen
  21. Hi Belphe, I guess you can get an idea of performance if you have a look at the following thread. I also have a triple screen setup with 3x 27" (2560x1440). So in case of further questions, don´t hesitate to contact me. Thread about triple screen and performance Take care, Xoxen
  22. I had the RX 6800 XT under triple 27" at 7680x1440 and switched back to Nvidia (RTX 3080) as it gave only 10% benefit (barely) over my previous GTX 1080 TI. The RTX is appr. 50% faster. But LucShep is right, up to 1x 1440p the RX was much faster compared to the GTX. The 6900 is better but I believe not that much. So it depends on what your favorite resolution is and if you also play other games. Here YT has enough direct comparison videos. I personally wouldn't do it. I would turn the case around not to see the white card anymore
  23. I had both, the RX 6800 XT with 16 GB and now the RTX 3080 with 10 GB. Before I had a GTX 1080 Ti with 11 GB. With all GPUs the RAM was mainly completely filled at a crowded server. I need to mention that I run 3x 27" with 2560x1440, means a total of 7680x1440, so a whole bunch of pixels. I never saw a difference in fluent gameplay, even with the RTX having 10 GB "only". It performs much better compared to the RX 6800 XT at that resolution. At 2560x1440 it gives a different picture performance wise and also RAM allocation. If I remember right the RAM never was filled completely at that resolution. I hope this helps, Xoxen
  24. Hi Sanc, by reading my own message in Spanish I recognized a mistake I did. The utilization in the last chapter needs to be 99-100%, not 99-10%. I hope you got it right already out of the content. Take care, Xoxen
  25. I upgraded from a 4790K to a 5800X with zero benefit in performance. At that time I had a GTX 1080Ti. Upgrading from that to the RTX 3080 brought up to 50% increase. So I guess it is the same in your system. You can only raise the performance by upgrading the GPU.
