  1. I will also upgrade the PSU over time, but since 1 year I ran a 3080 and now the 4080 without a problem. So no pressure on this. In the meantime my 2 boys have old PCs from me and one of them wants to upgrade his. He could need a PSU and gives me a good argument to buy a new one for me and give mine to him. But as mentioned, no pressure so far.
  2. I´m running the 4080 with a 600W PSU, which is not recommended, but works without issues. I checked the overall consumption of my system at the main plug and never comes ober 500 W in total. Edit: On my yesterdays weekly flight in my squadron the card ran with 100% load, appr. 250 W consumption and 55°C temperature.
  3. I haven´t heard issues about the 12VHPWR connector in combination with the 4080 so far. My Asus card has an 3x 8pin on 12VHPWR adapter included and I did not see any issues. What I have seen it is good not to bend the cable that much at the new connoctor itself. I wonder if the 8700k is strong enough for the 4080. On the 4YA Syria server I saw the GPU not at 100% which might be an indication that I was CPU bound with a lot of units included.
  4. This totally wonders me, as I saw a difference between the 1080Ti and the 3080 of about 50%.
  5. You can use one of the standard missions, switch off Track IR and simply compare your actual card with the new card FPS wise. This gives everybody a good impression on the gain over the 1080 you have.
  6. Actually the 7900 XT is available in Germany for EUR 1.129,- (XFX and Powercolor at Mindfactory). I did not see the XTX listed anywhere. Edit: Just found the XTX on ebay for EUR 1.399,-. So the scalpers are doing their job again. Shame on them.
  7. I changed the topic to all new models, beside of the RTX 4090, which is above all anyway
  8. I tried the RX 6800 XT last year on my 3 screen setup (coming from a 1080 TI) and was really, really disappointed (<10% more FPS). It seems the RAM bandwidth was the cause for it to perform bad at resolutions at 4k and above. I had several conversations in this matter. Switching to a 3080 solved this problem for me (appr. 50% more FPS over the 1080Ti). So the red GPU side didn´t convince me at all, I need some time to be willing to even think about it again. What I wonder the most is, my wife didn´t even say a word when I bought the 4080. Last year I had several discussions and spent less. Does she still love me or does she meet someone else when I´m flying? Who knows. Edit: I guess if the new AMD cards perform well, the Scalpers will make us the life hard again. It took me half of a year to put hands on the RX 6800 XT for a reasonable price.
  9. This is exactly what I did. I´m coming from 3x 27" displays with an overall resolution of 7680x1440 and now have also a 32:9 screen with 5120x1440. I always used the slider and also had the blurry HUD. Modifying this lua (MDG_strokesDefs.lua) to the dimensions 0.55 and 0.35 gave me back a good visibilty. With the new FOV information in the options you can easily say what it actually is by zooming in and out with the slider and stop where it is fine for you. Then jump into the options and read it. I´m actually at a FOV of 118°, came from 137° with my 3 display setup. The fisheye effect was even larger, so I´m all fine with it for now. But I will follow the advice above my post as well to see if I can improve it. Unfortunately modifying the mentioned lua does not let me pass the integrity check anymore. Was not an issue so far but since 2 patches or so. (those are the original dimensions)
  10. Whoever is interested in a direct comparison between the 3080 and the 4080. At 5120x1440 the difference in FPS is 35-40%. This is the result out of 5 different Missions I benched. Thanks for all the advises, but I knew better It has 100 W less power consumption and is quite cool when running. This together with my new Samsung Odyssey G9 really rocks. Please be gracious with any comments, I bought it and I exactly knew what I did.
  11. Even though I was not able to find the cause by 100%, I found my own conclusion. SSAA was on on my 7680x1440 setup. But I strongly doubt it was really actively working. I found older threads where it was not possible to put SSAA to 1.5x or 2.0x at high resolutions. Maybe this is a relict from that times and SSAA became active when using the reduced resolution of 5120x1440 with the new monitor. I did a lot of adjustments in the options and this was the only point where I really found a key to raise the FPS to the expected level. Now I can even raise MSAA to 4x and Clouds to high and still have more FPS. For me this topic is closed, as I´m fine like it is now. By the way, the Odyssey G9 is a great monitor and I don´t regret anything, even though I lost 1/3 of the physical field of view.
  12. Thanks for your answer. I am using the cable supplied with the monitor. I hope this should be capable to run everything like it shoud, but it is a point I also had in my mind already. I have a DP 1.4 HBR 3 cable to check this. At least worth trying. Edit: I just checked the other cable, different ports, no change in FPS. I played around with settings, moving them forth and back, no joy. Switching on Vsync and switching it off again did the trick for me in an earlier case. Edit 2: When I did the Benchmarks before the new Monitor arrived I also made a screenshot of my settings. I found SSAA set to 1.5x which I cannot remember I did. Anyway, I turned it off and it had a drastic influence and also the behavior of the FPS looked more like I was used to. I have seen at the Vsync setting, that sometimes things are set and do not work. This would explain the strange behavior I am actually facing. But honestly I didn´t recognize this setting before and cannot say if it could be the cause.
  13. Hello, I´m just facing an "issue" I did not expect. Up to last saturday I used 3x 27" monitors for flying with a total resolution of 7680x1440. On a black friday sale I was able to shoot a Samsung Odyssey G9 49" display with a resolution of 5120x1440. So far so good, the 3 monitors took a lot of space on my office desk and this has been solved now. Additionally the bezels are gone as well which makes the flying even more "realistic" and gives a very good overall feeling. Now to my point: for sure I expected a better performance as I reduced the resolution by 1/3. The opposite is the case. I did some benchmarks by comparing existing missions FPS wise and was totally disappointed doing so. I went from 51 to 42 FPS in one mission. So I lost 20%. WTF? What I had to do on the 3 monitor setup is to raise the field of view to 136 to get a realistic look into the cockpit. This resulted into a fisheye lens distortion. With the new monitor I had to reduce the FOV to 118 to have the same cockpit size and also the fisheye lens distortion is less now. But playing around with the FOV did not explain the drastical reduction I´m seeing. As I have G-Sync now I thought this might have to do with it and I checked a lot of things into that direction. 'But under the line after watching several videos I was not able to raise the FPS. What is strange is the fact, that if I watch to the sky I only see 70ish FPS which was in the 90/100 when having the 3 monitors. The GPU is utilized by 100% in both cases. Actually I´m out of answers but have the feeling something is thwarting my system. Hopefully anyone has something for me to understand what is going on. Thanks in advance. Xoxen
  14. I´m not in VR but can hardly imagine that you will see a difference. The 5900X is pretty fast and should still be enough for your GPU, even a 4090.
  15. I strongly believe the 4080 isn't a bad card at all, but totally overpriced. The reason for this thread was to build an own picture. 1500 Eur vs. 2200 Euro is the difference between 4080 and 4090. So both are highly overpriced. I guess I will wait snd see. I just bought a 49" display with 5120x1440 resolution to replace my 7680x1440 triple 27" setup. So I will have 1/3rd less pixels to calculate. This will bring me some additional frames.
  16. Your are so rigth in what you say. One thing I take into consideration is the fact, that I can still get some money for my 3080. Lower prices for the 4080 in 2023 and the new AMD GPUs on the road equals less money for my 3080. So I can also think about selling it now and buy a 4080. The difference will be similar. But first of all I would like to get an idea about the benefit.
  17. Great, thanks. So there it is 14% more. Good to know. My expectation was slightly higher. I assume that the 3080 is appr. 30% lower than the 4080
  18. Hi there, I´m interested in the performance of the RTX 4080 in DCS. I know it s price wise questionable and maybe the RTX 4090 is the better choice. But anyway, if anyone has anything to share I would be very happy. Thanks, Xoxen
  19. Many thanks Hiob, I had the idea of switching to the 3D from my 5800X. But I´m running 3 displays at a resolution of 3x 2560x1440. Based on your experience I will not go into that direction. At that resolution I already believed that I´m GPU bound. So many thanks on saving me a lot of money and disappointment. I owe you at least one beer. Whenever you are in my area (CLP), let me know
  20. Great to know, that it is possible to rename devices, I was not aware of that. I will check this out. Thanks for the advise.
  21. I have 3 of them running without issues. Two are named the same, so I have MFD 1, MFD 2 and MFD 2. I simply mapped the buttons inside of DCS and it can seperate them properly. One thing I figured out is if I unplug the USB connection (PC off) and mix up both MFD 2s, they are switched in DCS as well (center is reversed with the left one). I can revert this by unplugging and insert them correctly when the PC is off or in standby mode. It does not work when Windows is running. So I can confirm the two MFD 2s are similar but I can use them seperately in DCS without the usage of T.A.R.G.E.T.!
  22. I offer the book Raven One from Kevin Miller in english language (don´t even know if others are available). When cleaning up my office I figured out I bought it twice . So the one I´m going to sell is the unread one in new condition. I am from Germany and the shipping costs are from there. The price for the new book actually is 16 Euro. Make me an offer. A fair one . Thanks, Xoxen Sold: 2022-11-15
  23. For one of my M.2 drives I'm using a PCI-E 4.0 adapter which results into the same speed than the reals slots are achieving. My GPU is still running with 16x speed. Maybe this is also an option to take into consideration. The adapter was about 15,- Euro.
  24. Yes, it would be great if you can do kind of a DCS Benchmark. One specific mission measured with both systems to see the gain. But great, I always love to build a new rig.
  25. Hi, I have a slightly slower CPU but had the same idea. I would have a look into YT and search for videos in regards to undervolting. So with lower voltage you run the same speed. This ends up in lower temps and respectively the boost can be slightly higher. Here is one example: Undervolting with PBO2 I hope this comes close to what you were looking for. Xoxen out.
