I'm glad that I was able to help you. I hope our conclusion was right, but I strongly believe so. I also learned something. But my hopes still are in Vulcan to gain even more speed. Xoxen -
Poor performance on 1080p triples. RTX 3080 Ti
xoxen replied to SchumiF399's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Now I was able to test this. I choose to go with the first F-16 mission, like discribed by you. The settings are identical (see your post above) and the resolution as well (5760x1080). I simply made a step into the cockpit and did not move the head view. I do not see any difference in FPS once the other planes are spooling up. It does not fluctuate and shows 33-34 FPS. Here is a picture of the MSI Afterburner readout: The left one is the actual FPS, the right one is the average. In contrary to your system my GPU is at 99%. The CPU is again fluctuating in percentage and MHz, seems it is kind of bored (8 cores and 16 threads). I tested this without and with the mod activated and the FPS showed 35 if the mod is activated, so no big difference. Then I switched the settings to my standard ones (for me the best mix out of performance and eye candy), but still with your resolution and 3 screens. As you can see I was able to raise the FPS a lot and still my GPU is utilized by 99%. Afterwards I went for 1 screen, YOUR resolution (5760x1080) and YOUR settings. I did the same for 1 screen, YOUR resolution (5760x1080) and MY settings. Finally I went for 1 screen, MY resolution (7680x1440) and MY settings. With activated mod I´m getting 56 FPS. I hope this gives you an idea of what my hardware is capable to achieve. If you need some more information please let me know. Xoxen Edit: If you are really CPU bound, overclocking it should show a slight difference. -
Poor performance on 1080p triples. RTX 3080 Ti

I just had a quick look at the videos and settings. We have a major difference in how to work with 3 monitors. I'm running it with one camera and you are using 3. I have the fisheye effect at the sides, you have 3 cameras and this angled behavior of the outer cameras, which I personally do not like that much. The major reason not to use 3 cameras for me also was the much lower performance. Your system needs to calculate the picture for every screen. At mine the fisheye effect stretches the outside and does not need to calculate that much in direct comparison. But I can manage to copy your settings and run the same mission (is it a standard F-16 Mission?). What I actually believe is that you are CPU bound. The usage of the GPU fluctuates and is never at 99-100%. The CPU is always at 20% or slightly higher. If you have 8 cores (4 real and 4 virtual) 20% could be one core fully utilized and another one partly. But also changing the settings and no change in FPS sounds like a CPU bottleneck. My CPU is always fluctuating in frequency and the GPU is at 99% all over the time. So definitely a GPU bottleneck. I will work on the comparison tomorrow as I'm in lack of time today. I guess my frames will be low because of your really high settings. They are demanding for every hardware. -

As I´m thinking about switching to a RTX 3080Ti as well (when the prices drop a little), I´m very much interested in your issue. If you are right with your suspicion that there is something wrong with DCS and triple displays I can save this attempt. OK, first of all the usage of OVGME: Once you open the program you need to create a new configuration. The name is free of choice. The configuration root folder is your main DCS folder. The configuration mods folder is a folder of your choice. You simple need to create it link it in OVGME. If you want a backup of the original data, you can hook it and name any location. Then you need to copy the shader mod (complete folder incl. sub structure) into the mods folder. Then you can see it in OVGME. Simply click on it and click on "Enable selected". When you see the green hook it is acticated. By clicking on "Disable selected" you deactivate the mod. I do this before an update. The same way it works for every mod. What I can offer is a direct comparison. I set my DCS to 3x 1080p and I load the same mission you are using with the same settings and then we can directly compare the FPS. Mine should be worse because of the slower GPU. If I´m faster than you this could be an indication of a faulty GPU or anythng else what might limit your system. Simply let me know if this sounds interesting for you, then we can give this a go. Take care, Xoxen Edit: Recently I saw a post in a forum where someone switched to a RTX 3090 and reported a huge benefit for a triple displays setup. -
Roughly the same frame rate no matter the graphics setting
xoxen replied to SchumiF399's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Just a quick question, are you using a second GPU to connect the displays? I did this years ago with the iGPU of my former Intel CPU. This reduced my FPS to 37 and capped it, independent of the settings. Disabling the iGPU did the trick. Same experience with a second Nvidia GPU. I'm exporting the MFCDs to 3 small displays and needed the extra connections. Using the 1080 Ti only I had at that times brought it to 52 FPS (I checked this with a mission of my choice to do the comparison). At least something to have a look at. -
Hi Stacula, were you ever be able to solve your problem? I´m not really sure about it but believe DCS is limited to max 7680 width. This does not really match your black space area but isn´t that far away from that. I have 3x 2560 = 7680 width and this runs like charme. With 3x 3440 = 10320 you are wider by 2640 pixels. Could be that this is the problem. Maybe it is also related to the connections you are using. DP might be better than HDMI. Just a thought. Take care, Xoxen

Poor performance on 1080p triples. RTX 3080 Ti

Hi Schumi, The latest version of the mod works on MP servers and are passing the Integrity Check. Just last Wednesday I did a comparison with and without the mod and the difference was like 52 FPS without and 70 FPS with the mod installed without any noticeable reduction in quality. It was sitting in the cold and dark pit of the Hornet on a carrier. Here is the link to the appropriate post in my thread where you can find the link to the mod. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/278553-pc-upgrade-on-triple-1440p-monitor-4790k-5800x-and-1080ti-rx-6800-xt-some-results/?do=findComment&comment=4739682 Did you try MSI Afterburner to see how much your CPU and GPU are utilized? Sometimes people find old artefacts in their export.lua in the DCS Saved Games folder. You can try renaming it to see if it includes a show stopper for you. I had this in the past as well. Deleting FXO and Metashader2 folder also sometimes makes a difference. It will be recreated after a new start of DCS so it is worth a try. What are your actual specs? CPU/RAM speed and amount? Xoxen Edit: I´m also waiting for news about the Vulcan implementation as I have the same feeling that there is a limitation on multi monitor maschines. Maybe it is time to think about VR with this new card. Edit 2: Just found your other thread, so you checked the advices I gave already. Also my question about your hardware is answered by this. I would delete the complete Save Game folder and copy things back step by step to exclude things from being the cause. -

I have a very similar experience in 3x 1440p coming from a 1080 Ti to a RX 6800 XT. It is interesting that you have a similar issues as my conclusion was that AMD card do not like the high resolutions I`m running (7560x1440), I have a thread for this, maybe there are some helpful advices for you. https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/278553-pc-upgrade-on-triple-1440p-monitor-4790k-5800x-and-1080ti-rx-6800-xt-some-results/ For me the Shader Mod brough much benefit, even though this would have been able with the 1080 Ti as well. -
Hi FireManDan, sorry to jump on your train but I have pretty much the same situation. I saw a lot of people complaining about the cables being an issue and creating errors at the G2. So I would also love to hear first hand experiences from users about the two VR systems. Take care, Xoxen
-
Congrats to your new card, great choice. I would love to have waited long enough, now I have a RX 6800 XT which performs not that strong in 7680 x 1440 resolution. So if you don´t know where to go with your actual card, please PM me Take care and much fun with the new beast Xoxen

Great that you like it, this was my goal, to help others with my findings. In addition I got some worthy information by myself, even though they would have helped with my old 1080Ti as well. Lesson learned.

Hi Luke, I did not get you wrong, everything is fine. You are fully right with the PSU and the limits my PC is capable to reach. Actually I´m only flying DCS and there it is OK. If this changes, I will double check if I´m still within the optimal area of my PSU and, if necessary, buy a new one. I did some Heaven Benchmarking yesterday and the hotspot is really much higher. Max was 102°C for a moment, mainly at 97°C. I played around with the fans of the GPU and now it is cooler (and louder, but I´m wearing a headset anyway). The hardcore test brought max 450 W, I used Cinebench 23 (all cores) and Heaven Benchmark (1440p, Ultra settings) at the same time. The CPU got warm with 77°C and the GPU was at 67°C. Thanks again for your strong support. Take care, Xoxen

Dear Luke, many thanks for the extra input. I double checked the wattage used to see if I can save buying a new PSU. The Watt counter shows what I have mentioned and this should be fine. I strongly believe that a too small PSU wouldn´t effect the FPS. I would expect a system crash. Maybe I´m wrong and this is the cause of my issues, but hard to believe. What I did is using 2 cables to support the GPU directly from the PSU. So I´m fine on this. I have 5 fans in my case which should bring enough cool air into the system and the warm one out. If the GPU would be too warm and starts throttling, shouldn´t this end up in hickups/stutters? I don´t see this so far, the game is running fairly smooth. I will give Heaven Benchmark a go as I have it installed. There the card is performing well. Thanks again for your support, this is very much appreciated. Take care, Xoxen

- My PSU is a 600W BeQuiet. I checked the wattage at max performance (3D Mark) and it never goes above 425W total, so still should be fine. Do you think this could be an issue? - The temperature is at 76°C when running 3D Mark or in DCS on a heavy MP Mission. Edit: IC now runs in a good way in v2.1

Both versions of the Shader Mod do not pass the IC for me. When I first enter the selection screen it is green but then it turns red.

DCS World RTX3080Ti vs GTX1080 FPS Test
xoxen replied to SignorMagnifico's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm running 3 screens (7680x1440) as well and upgraded from a 1080 Ti to a RX 6800 XT. I thought the speed and the extra VRAM would give me a boost but this is not the case. 10% was my gain and I am really really disappointed about this. But anyway, if you go for Nvidia the benefit should be larger, they seem to handle very high resolutions in a better way. Going from a 1070 to the 1080 Ti brought me 25% boost at that time with the same 3 screen config. So go for Nvidia if available and take the 3090 if money plays no major rule. Hands off AMD for a config like mine. I wasn't able to find information about this before and went the expensive way and figured this out by myself. Your CPU is more than enough. AMD is good in 1440p in DCS, I raised the FPS by appr. 25% over the 1080 Ti. I hope this helps. -
Hi jaguara5 I had the same CPU until end of April. I do not run 4k but 3x 27" (7680x1440). I checked with MSI Afterburner what my limitation is. If your GPU is running at 99-100%, it is definitely the bottleneck. I switched the CPU to a 5800X with not additional FPS. Then I switched from a 1080Ti to a RX 6800 XT and also this did not bring me a major boost. My recommendation is to check the utilization of the GPU and CPU and then take your decision. Upgrading from a GTX 1070 to 1080Ti brought me appr. 25% more FPS at that times, but this was before 2.7. A RTX 3060 is similar to the 1080Ti speed wise. I hope this helps. Xoxen

I´m fully aware of this, but now the money is gone and the PC is 100% future proof. Maybe DCS will develop into the right direction for me to get a benefit later on.

Great, in that case I still can await improvements. I was with Nvidia 20+ years and have to learn to feel comfortable with AMD, which will take a little. But generally I didn't regret this step as AMD did a great job CPU and GPU wise.

Good Morning gentlemen, I was curious and did some benching after breakfast. I startet with 50 FPS (accidentially the visib. range already was set to high instead of extreme why I mentioned 53 FPS above) Here ist the outcome: Mirrors off, TrackIR off, Cockpit view Basis settings (see picture) 50 FPS Basis settings and Shader Mod 63 FPS (+26%) Visib. Range: Extreme --> High 53 FPS (+6%) Preload Radius: 150000 --> 90000 50 FPS (0%) Cockpit Global Illumination: On --> Off 53 FPS (+6%) All of the above (without Shader Mod) 56 FPS (+12%) All of the above incl. Shader Mod 71 FPS (+42%) I would say my marriage is saved. Crazy 42% plus. I´m not sure about the Cockpit Global Illumination as the cockpit doesn´t feel that real anymore. But this is a very good starting point. Even if I stick to the Shader Mod only, the 26% gain are really noticeable. Thanks for the advices.

Hi Fetus, Re-Size bar is activated but only makes a difference of 1-2 FPS, if any. But thanks for the advice. Overclocking the CPU is something I can try as well, even though the GPU is definitely the bottleneck in my system at that resolution. So the rage mode is something which makes a small difference, I checked this already, again 1-2 FPS more. You should also try the shader mod. On the 4YA server I also got the performance boost and even on the Marianas I never got below 34 compared to stock shaders sometimes at 28. I did not really see an optical difference. Xoxen

Thanks for the input. I will try the proposed settings (maybe the flowers as well ) and let you know if A. I can live with it and B. what they bring FPS wise. Today I´m too tired for further testing. Fiddled around with some mild OC and could gain appr. 5% extra. Not really worth it but at least something. Cheers, Xoxen Edit: Oh wow, I just tested the shader mod and it boosted the FPS from 53 to 66 I´m very much impressed and need to have a detailed look at it tomorrow and fly aroud a little. Thanks for the advice and I will check the other points as well.

Dear Flight Simmers, I recently upgraded my Computer from a i7 4790K to a 5800X and now from a GTX 1080Ti to a Rx 6800 XT. As I´m using a triple display setup with 3x 27”1440p displays. I rarely find information about possible improvements changing from one to the other system. So I went the expensive way and figured it out by myself. My resolution is 7680x1440 and with MSI Afterburner I´m checking the CPU/GPU utilization and FPS inside of a given mission to make it comparable. I will simply mention the percentage of improvement as I did not find the time to run several comparisons and visualize them with pictures. But anyway, my findings could give the one or the other an indication of what to await. Old: i7 4790K, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR3 --> 48 FPS (Basis), 99% GPU, 25% CPU (spread evenly over the 8 cores) Transition: 5800X, 1080 Ti, 64GB DDR4 --> 47 FPS (-2,1%), 99% GPU, 13% CPU (spread evenly over the 16 cores) New: 5800X, 6800XT, 64 GB DDR4 --> 53 FPS (+10,4%), 99% GPU, 20% CPU (spread evenly over the 16 cores) My settings are displayed in the attached picture. I did not play around so much with other resolutions, so cannot tell you the difference in 1440p between the systems. My default mission with the new system has 112 FPS in 1440p compared to the 53 FPS with 3 screens. The extra DRAM of the AMD card (16GB) was completely eaten up by DCS, like at the Nvidia one before (11GB). In a crowded mission in Syria (4YA server), even the RAM is filled in a good way (old: 30-32GB, new: 40-44 GB). As a conclusion I can say that upgrading the CPU was not really helpful. I expected this as the GPU utilization already was at 99%. But anyway, I thought the PCIE 4.0 and DDR4 could make a difference. I guess the frame times were raised but not noticeable. At the GPU upgrade I was disappointed. I expected at least 20% performance boost. It seems like the RX 6800 XT doesn´t like that high resolutions. Maybe something is thwarting my system but I didn´t find anything so far. If anybody has an idea to raise FPS with a setting I might not know so far, please let me know. Otherwise I will leave it like it is as my wallet is empty now and a new GPU equals the end of my marriage Take care, Xoxen
