BTR-60PB and that landing ship and the balloons all act in ways I expect from an "asset pack" rather than statics/civilian traffic that are not available in the mission editor. I can only hope many of the civil assets will likewise be included. Is this the first map with "regional" traffic, with different civilian traffic in east and west?

missing info SA-6 tracking around a hill
sith1144 posted a topic in Ground AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
The old threads have been locked, so making a new one. Encountered an SA-6 in the Last Out Weasels over Syria campaign, dipped behind a hill, and according to tacview after the missile lost track its rate of turn doubled to hit me anyway. It happened in a very short timespan though, so hard to say for sure if it was properly tracking me or just "got lucky"Tacview-20241215-134708-DCS-LOWOS Mission 8 FINAL.zip.acmiSadly I only have the tacview track because I forgot I have to click save track on singleplayer missions. So apologies if this thread is useless- 1 reply

@ChillNGright but sword 3 had to RTB because they took some damage on their own run on the SA-8s, presumably because I maybe climbed too much when covering, or otherwise just because war is hell and sometimes you do everything right and still take a hit. So I was doing the attack without their support. if they succesfully distracted the AAA I couldve gotten that SA-6 a lot faster on a low altitude run I suppose, no need to dodge all 9 missiles before going in

Good morning. Last night I finished mission 5 and I thought I'd share my thoughts so far. Weasels over Syria is back, and its more challenging, exciting, and meaner than ever. In the first five missions I have only managed to get that perfect 100 once - but I havent scored below 90 either. I'm okay with that. The perfect score requires near flawless execution of the mission. Those missions so far are well designed and build on the skills acquired in FIWOS nicely. There is a nice bit of setup and payoffs too - for example, you approach the airfield in an almost airliner feeling way. There's a standard instrument approach, flying along a radial to a predetermined initial point. This pays off a few missions later when you have to land in poor weather, or at night. So far there has been a nice mix of HARMs, JDAMs, WCMDs, dumb bombs, and laser guided bombs. I have even carried out a strafing run or two. There has also been a nice variety of targets. I have attacked HARM-supressed SAM sites with a known position to various pop-up threats I had to find with the HTS and TGP myself, and there was one particular highlight in the form of an exciting pop-up attack on an early warning radar with mk-84s where I had to fly a fairly tight attack profile to minimize my time over the target, while keeping separation from my #2. If there wasn't a whole mission attached to that Id fly that attack over and over until I got it perfect! Some of the extra tasks you can take on add a nice dash of extra challenge and really bring you to the fuel limit. Even so, I have only had to do air to air refueling once, althought I think I could have just about made it back to base. This does bring me to a "downside" of sorts. Some of these missions are rather long, so be prepared for that. I have personally stopped playing them in VR because of the length (and I dont trust windows mixed reality to not crash the game when I put down the headset to refill my glass of water) In short, if you liked First In Weasels over Syria, you'll like Last Out Weasels over Syria too. Im going to get into mission 5 now, which is the first mission where I at some point I was slightly dissapointed with something. If you dont want spoilers, stop reading now! okay, so, this mission involves striking an sa-6 with laser guided bombs only. fun! im looking forward to it. I fly out there, and first task is to distract the AAA a bit. I feel like I flew as briefed but sword 3 still got hit. no biggie tho, its a war, sometimes that happens so im okay with not getting those points. Then we have to attack the SA-5 from the east, flying all along the runway full of guns. great, thanks mission control. But im down for a challenge. Ill send sword 2-2 around to the west to make a pass from the opposite direction to go in first and distract the target and... oh. thats not an option. I would have really liked that as an option and feel like it would have been included in FIWOS. I suppose sword 3 would have done it but got hit and had to RTB. Its a small thing, and i'll just blame Shade for not being willing to distract the SAM a little bit. You could say hes... weaseling his way out of trouble... I ended up running the sa-6 out of missiles. the last one exploded closer than Id like but I made it out unscathed. I did refuel on the way home though, as I was about 500 pounds behind the fuel planning and it felt pretty tight. Overall still a solid 8/10 mission.

I just played through mission 3 and the voiceover for picking up the patient started before I even landed. Let me know if you need the track. also, almost certainly a DCS bug and nothing to do with the campaign, but I laugh every time a ship just suddenly appears. Like shown in these screenshots where I move the camera closer to the helicopternullnull

I got a VPForce Rhino. really cool so far but I gotta get a proper chair mount for it now. Enjoying it so far! played some more of that mission, freecammed over to some passing planes to see what they are, switched back to the huey just in time to see a windscreen full of trees. ill give it another go tomorrow

im enjoying this! recently got a force feedback stick and getting back into te mi-8 and huey. small note: in mission 2 with te broken fence your character asks "what is this for, you post it on instagram?" when Instagram was founded in 2010. So obviously, my immersion is ruined could talk about posting on myspace instead I guess

It would be really cool if we could at least replicate the Iranian raid on the H-3 base in spirit, where 8 phantoms flew all the way along the Iraqi northwestern border at 300 feet alongside a 747 tanker also flying at 300 feet. A 747 tanker would be cool, iconic, and suit both Persian gulf and Iraq maps and maybe even a bit of Afghanistan and Syria for hypotheticals

reported SA-10 track without LOS
sith1144 replied to Ipergallo's topic in Ground AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
heres a track of an SA-2 seemingly switching targets and then tracking around a hill with both missile and target fully out of line of sight. launched at +00:26:00Tacview-20241006-215309-DCS-Host-CampaignMission6.zip.acmi -

Finished the campaign last night and it was fantastic! Highlights for me were that time on target popup strike against the sa-15 and being dragged out of my comfort zone on the mission where I have to take out an sa-3 with CBU-87s. Ended up level bombing from 25k feet because the HARMs kept them down, nailed the radar. Only note is that in the mission with the migs, you are told to try to outrun them. I did, made it to the border and they broke off, which means I couldn't get a perfect score haha. Luckily I don't care about score edit: also what a finale! ended up getting shot at by: 2x SA-10 4x SA-6 4x SA-11 2x SA-8 6x SA-11 2x SA-6 2x S-60 gun bursts 6x ZSU-57 gun bursts on the playthrough I actually survived. the scariest part is I didnt even know an SA-8 had shot at me

not planned or realistic Kola peninsula: a "must-have" unit

Being wrong was explicitly possible. Bet theres loads of stuff you dont know, no need to get your knickers in a twist over it over it mate. -
not planned or realistic Kola peninsula: a "must-have" unit
sith1144 replied to sith1144's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I understand perfectly well what DCS is: a videogame. Its only a sim if the FAA lets you log hours. I bet you can find more information on, say, the powerplant of the Lun than the powerplant of the Nimitz and they sell that for money. As for theater: I dont know about you but I mostly play what-ifs in DCS. Otherwise there's no point to making a modern Kola map; the only plane we have that would otherwise be realistic to use on the map is the Mosquito, and I'm pretty sure the shipping raids in Norway were done by bomber mosquitos, not fighter bombers. And of course the map is the modern version, not ww2, so that doesn't make sense either. So don't kid yourself: if you want the map to do anything other than simulated exercises and Tu-95 escorts, it is to play fantasy scenarios. I don't see how it harms your fantasy scenario to have an extra tool available you choose not to use. -

sith1144 replied to sith1144's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It makes perfect sense! When WiC did it it was very cool, so if DCS does it it'll be very cool too. likewise others have mentioned ASW, despite that being a fictional game mechanic (when's the last time a submerged sub was sunk in combat? The whole field is hypothetical and used exclusively for wargames) Not to mention, modern combat on the Kola peninsula is also fictional. So it's no different than World In Conflict! -

I am of course talking about the Lun class Ekranoplan as seen in the video game World in Conflict! It'd be really cool to see this in DCS, skimming the ocean at almost 300 knots! -
