Having worked now for many years with real pilots as close as I did, one 64d pilot stated once to me, that if you ask 10 64d pilots how the aircraft should feel in a sim, you will get 10 different answers, included that not a single helicopter of the same build will fly the same way as the parked one right next to you. You can find x pilot where ever you want, but for example, a croatian army pilot, that has actual stick time, tested it last week and he for example had the feeling it did not have enough power in the collective, lift. The others do not have that feeling. from its muscle memory the aircraft handelled in terms of the cyclic it handles like the real aircraft. You see different persons, same aircraft type, different opinions. Now we as a dev sit there and have to make something out of the information given

Kiowa is also prohibited to a certain roll by the book. Can it roll more then that ? Sure! Has that been done? Sure! Just saying. Only because something is prohibited by the book does not automatically include that it is not capable of doing so. CH53 is also not allowed to exceed x° in roll. Has it been done? Yes. Is there evidence ? Yes, youtube us marine ch53 doing a roll and a loop

Not ture, the ginbal at the buttom of your device will stay the same. The only change is the precision of the conttrolling device, you as a pilot. We have had one of our lead testpilots test the KW fm with a puma device and a warthog. both have the same values on the input gimbals, so the same values are generates as input. the difference is, and i could see it first hand, that an extension makes it easier to make minimal correections. the difference was clearly visible in the hover, akthough to be fair, the pilot was already stable as hell with a warthog. But dicussing this out would blow the the topic

Again, check if the FFB is unchecked if you have issues with the control inputs. I have to uncheck now and then aswell, cause sometimes, an update resets your control prefrences. FFB activated will cause a huge lack in response aropund the center when you have no FFB stick. Thanks

One of my favourite videos. Maybe because I had a chance to chat with with the pilot who flew that day in the video and a good friend of our team and aswell part of the soul of this project was a pilot in taskforce saber

This is what I ment by my statement. People forget about what is happening in RL and in terms of ROEs and what is possible in game. Given fact is, which every Kiowa Warrior pilot will concur to is, that the M4 was ment for personal protection, not for direct combat actions from the helicopter. I sometimes scratch my head why people think such a M4 would be in any way accurate when you fire it out of the door in a move sideways. I have fired multiple rifle rounds in my life and I know that there is so far not a single game that is relaistic in terms of the aim, recoil control, reaim and so on. Everybody who has fired rifles in his life will oknow, that a shot from a moving, rocking vehicle like a helicopter is basically, in first place a waste of ammunition, when you have way more accurate weapons you can use.

@Alec Delorean: What is your point ? the control input would be the same when you have a short or a long cyclic, cause in the end the roll yourl be the same at your roll axis. Your graphic show a missconception as you can clearly see the angle and movement on the shorter axis is overconrtrolled. The mature difference is, that with an extended cyclic you can make bigger movements physically with your hand or more finetuned inputs at the top of the arc of your cyclic. Your picture proves no valid point cause it is simply a wrong picture

It is not about being fed up. Matter of fact is, we have identified some stuff already ourselfs over the course of time. We communicated between pilots that fly the gazelle, flew it for thousands of hours in the french and in the british army. just because one person come up and says his feelings are x y z it does not mean that he is automatically right. Some stuff he said is correct to address it, some is rather not. Just to give you a little inside, we have roughly 15 active french gazelle pilots that talked to us during the past 6 month. we asked them all, what does it feel like, what has to be changed and everyone of them gave different answers that at some point even made other pilots opinions look simply wrong. Yoiu can ask 10 helicopter pilots what the aircraft should do or what the fm should be like and you will get 10 different helicopter flightmodels, that is the real case. So we have have to filter pilots opinions by our knowledge aswell and cross refrence. If someone has hurt feelings because of that, which is also a part of quality assurance, well, then it is his or her feelings we can do little about it. Maybe this should be the last word about opinions, plus having flown the Gazelle for 150 hours over 10 years ago, when there are pilots we talked to that even offered us to go out and check the real aircraft any day, cause they fly it every day, whom should we listen to ?

Just out of curiosity, is there anything constructive about this forum topic ? or can we close this ?

@defygravity We are an indipendent company. We do not have to ask anybody how we choose to invest. Sure we would try to solve certain things prior, but sometimes that is not possible for what ever reason. But it is probably nothing the community has to bother about.
-
Basically, the guys in the community always said, it was ok to fire with the m4, but if we could not use the 50, we would have not been able to use anything.
-
Interesting information. I have not heard of a single incident yet in the OH58d Kiowa Warrior community, where the flight of 2 Kiowas could not employ 50cal or heavier ordance. I actually heard of stories where wodden doors were literally kicked in with a 50cal from less then 100 yards. So, as far I see it, there was never an issue with the weapons employment, and if there needed they did fly a turn around and hammered the target then or nb 2 came in and rained hell on the "bad" guys. Would be interesting to know of that incident you describe., maybe one of the guys has heard about stuff like that. will see

@Quigon, the M4 was trained and used in the combat areas because the ROE demanded most of the times the least lethal force to be used. A 50 cal or rocketpod is defenately more lethal then a M4. Still undiscussable, the m4 was ment for personal protection in case of a downed aircraft.

Hi, So the minigun GAU19 had less dispersion then the M3P on the Kiowa Warrior. One of our SMEs, SABER, was on the evaluation team of that system. The M3P has some recoil yes, but it is not as much as peoeple think it is, cause the slipstream of the aircraft helps to counter it. The Hellfire does not indeuce jaw when fired fro. the rack. the racks have a friction setting. that holds the missile. on the rack but it is not. enough to actually induce any jaw to the airframe when the motor has to overcome the friction to slide the missile from the rail. Plus the is no barrier behind the misdsile exhaust that would encounter a blast recoil. We have discussed that briefly in the team with the SMEs month ago already and recieved the info needed. For the value of the friction of the rack I have to ask them again. I do not remember that out of the top of my head.

[NO BUG, IT ACTUALLY CAN] Gazelle STILL can't contact AWACS...
borchi_2b replied to D4n's topic in Bugs and Problems
So the basic answer is, any helicopter can be in the network of AWACS and they will be, but not for a bogey dope, as some people hopeto havein the terms of gaming and trying to hunt with the mistral, no, in general they are connected to AWACS so they could be contacted by the airboss to redirect them for CAS or CSAR or whatever, but the helicopters would contact directly FAC or other controling units in the loop. If AWACS will be added, not sure. Opinions about everybody should follow x y z because of thier opinion, well. I leave that to the community to judge such comments. Cheers. Have a good trip into 2020 -
Jup, if you talk about Damcopter, well, he bailed out after I told him that we will have the information backed up by some other helicopter pilots. Plus 150 hours on a Gazelle in pilot training 12 years ago is not a reference that we take into question, but knowing that it has been such a limited time and been a long time ago, we had all rights to backup the information by other pilots that activly fly in 3 different french squadrons. So to speak, there was a quote of a 64d instructor about flightsims and helicopters I read lately. "Ask 10 pilots about the feel of a helicopter and you will end up with 10 different answers!" This means we have to work with the people and talk to them what we need, what they will agree on feels right as a team and our production is not a 1 man show of one pilot anymore for a long time already. Anyways, we are still waiting for numbers and data we kindly asked to be collected for us from the actual aircraft. This still takes some time and Patrick and I have talked about the progress, cause this goes through his department, I am unfortunately not able to speak french.

EC145 Pilot and Cromhunt, lets see the logged flighthours ;) Just joking. I know Cromhunt and have talked to him a bit and I do know what he flew in RL. I never talked to you EC1145 Pilot and I can guarantee you, Cromhunt does know more about the Gazelle then even we do ;) But maybe you want to ask him yourself why ;) Merry christmas. No room for hate here these days. Millenuim falcon, ohh, yeah that would be awesome, we could then go hunt stars, hmm, never thought about it Have a nice holidays anyways ;)

Polychop Simulations OH-58D Kiowa
borchi_2b replied to Polychop Simulations's topic in DCS: OH-58 Kiowa
Hi, aiming and firing the gun or rockets is done with the greese pencil marker and the tracers yes, but can be aided by the MMS through the MMS forward mode in which the camera can be slaved to a straight forward position that will show a picture of the target straight ahead of the helicopter, which can be a very good aid when targets are small, like infantry or far in the distance when you use the rockets. I hope it helped
