  1. Awesome addon, must have been incredible work, many thanks! I noticed a folder 'WW 1 Ships' with an entry.lua referenzing to objects (e.g. 'hms_bounty_furled_sails') that I found nowhere. Maybe a left-over? Or a teaser for things to come? If I may add: In the Sopwith Camel's VR cockpit view the lower wings are not visible ─ only the ailerons. At least from top. The upper wings are visible, from topview, too. Haven't yet tested many of the flyable aircraft.
  2. Thanks lord-gore, you know your profile pic somehow acts as a whistleblower to what you say... But indeed, the Yak-52 is one of my all-time favourites ─ in the right livery.
  3. I found that 'Blending' values of 1 or 3 (instead of 2) support 8 bit alpha channel. Unfortunately each of them has its downsides. But thanks, I'll give blending '2' another shot with a BC3 conversion.
  4. Wonder about the same. DDS BC7 supports explicit alpha channel with 8 bits (equals grayscale), but all I get in model viewer is punched holes... Same when I fall back to PNG format...
  5. Thanks for the tip. But he flightsim-to site is dedicated to FS2020. I actually did a Blériot XI livery for FS2020, but I'am quite reluctant to indulge into their scenery design. But you're right, FS2020 simmers would probably be more of the 'peacenik' types to enjoy leasure flying. Though, the latest FS2020 update brought the F/A-18. They're kind of amalgamating...
  6. Hi. My first DCS movie. The video is actually just a by-product and 'teaser' for an addon to the Marianas terrain. But thought, I'd also place it here. If you want to comment please head over to my thread under 'mods':
  7. The release of the Marianas was a huge scenery booster to DCS. Especially for those with a love for low-level sightseeing ─ pardon: 'recon missions' ─ in slow prop planes and rotaries. Maug Islands has soon become my favourite spot, criss-crossing its caldera almost every morning... After a while I began to daydream and having visions. I saw shipwrecks on the caldera's bottom, with great whites patroling. And sometimes I even believed to see a glimpse of Amelia Earhart's Electra 10. With no knowledge or experience with neither ME nor Blender and its EDM Exporter it was a LONG journey until I had a good number of (unanimated) objects 'DCS-ready'. BTW, as the year in the title suggests, they're all peacetime objects! (The video, though, does include carriers and planes by Hawkeye60.) I don't know how long the next step, dealing with object animations, will (or would) take. But after months of work I felt for a break. And then <hint, hint> I think of the project as an 'open project' anyway. So everyone is invited to enhance and expand it! My personal whish-/todo-list includes animated sails and flags for the sailships animated Birdman (the original 3D model is actually fully rigged and playing in Blender) animated great white (same here) group of animated whales for 'whale watching' Thanks to tobi, grajo, copprhead. Without their help and work this project wouldn't exist. This free addon is not quite ready to be released, its scope will be much subject to availability/affordability of necessary licences. But here's a teaser video. Please comment and help to keep the project thriving. EDIT: 2022-02-03: I just put one of the sailships in the user files. 30+ variants of hoisted and furled sails, transparent or battle torn, bring some color to any of your sceneries and missions. Not alone the Marianas, but also to Normandy, The Channel, Syria... Version history of «BRIG»: v1.0 Initial release v1.1 Added moderate wake, front and aft. What seems appropriate for a sailship with no screws and an average speed of around 10 knots. v1.2 Improved NORMALS and SPECS for sail canvas. Streamlined usage of all NORMALS and SPECS, now only very upclose (LOD0, 300m, some LOD1). Some changes to the Static Templates. A second sample 'mission' file giving a quick overview of all 32 variants in box formation is now included (like screenshot above). Extract and overwrite all existing files.
  8. Hi everyone. New year, old problem. Is there a way to tilt an object (e.g. upside down) in ME? The rather ugly way I am doing it currently is to create a new .edm with the object in the desired position and then duplicate & adapt the original's folder in 'tech'. This soon becomes complicated and even chaotic. Neither is it ressource friendly, as there is no instancing of the objects. Any solutions?
  9. No answer, just to keep the thread warm... I'd assume when you insert the same object several times or copy'n'paste an object, there is automatic instancing. After all, ME does not allow much to 'break' the instance. Turning an object around its z-axis is about all you can do?
  10. In my experience it's the object's origin that matches the ground mesh (or water surface in case of ships). With the 3D cursor placed like I'd like to have it and in object mode I right-click and choose 'set origin' --> set origin to 3D cursor.
  11. Did I change GT.Name? YES! And, ahem, NO! Since my models don't have different liveries, I deleted 'A' and 'B' folders and renamed the parent folder 'EMPTY'. That worked fine alone or alongside Grajo's template. But as soon as I had more than one of my models loaded, trouble was here. Thanks for the tip! All works fine now, touch on wood! I gladly save your invitation to send you a file for inspection for another time.
  12. @Grajo WRT your 'HOW TO add BASIC custom "Static Object" INGAME Mod" tutorial. Thanks a lot. I managed to adapt the lua's so I'd see my models under their own custom name in ME, shape and textures. BUT only one at a time. Either your FARP example OR a single one of my models! There must be some index that gets overwritten. Apart from GT.DisplayName. And it's NOT GT.Range, that one I tried already. Drives me crazy... Any help much appreciated.
  13. Asking me exactly the same questions. The fact that >4 months after there's no answer here, makes me doubt, the thread seems to be dead... @fang16, if you listen: can you point me to some useful and up-to-date sources wrt EDM and texturing?
  14. Hi, for help with the Blender plugin you might get more and better answers when you post that in a dedicated forum like https://forums.eagle.ru/topic/229164-edm-exporter-for-blender-28 ? As a newbie that I still am I had the same problem (btw running on 2.93.5). It turned out that RenderType was 'none' instead of 'RenderNode'.
  15. At least in the Channel map there is hardly any need (or no need at all) for wind to see whitecaps. They are always there ─ like the seagulls. @Northstar98We must be careful that we speak of the same. The waves in the WIP picture are the new waves that DCS calls 'breaking waves'. The 'whitecaps' you can hardly see from this distance and height, you must fly very low level. Ohh, i found a couple of pics I took last year near Dover port. The whitecaps look incredibly realistic!
  16. I know of two places for bird (strikes). One is a slider in settings/gameplay going from zero to 1000. Another slider is in ME/mission options, also going from zero to 1000, which, on mouse hover, is clarified as the 'likelihood of bird STRIKES'. Therefore I assume the slider in GAMEPLAY is for the bird VISUALS. Anyway, with both sliders maxed I see birds on Guam and the Marianas, but not on the new atolls including Pagan. I think they're gone forgotten...
  17. Before installing a bird bath DCS must bring back the birds! Well, part of this is meant serious: There are no birds around the coastlines of the new northern islands...
  18. Well spoken! Pacific ocean and some wide scattered volcanic islands sticking out of the water in morning mist = EXTREME SERENITY. Not even the sound of the Mossie's two Merlins do disturb the mental calmness. Thinking of Amelia Earhart and the like... Thanks to DCS for expanding the 'World' with the Marianas map!
  19. Why can't ME allow for a change of that status? Could be the most comfortable solution.
  20. Agreed. On my sightseeing tour around Pagan I also noticed that the beautiful whitecaps have disappeared! Addicted to low(est) level flight in WWII aircraft I missed them much. Some of them, those near the coast and beaches, may be replaced by the new 'rolling' waves, but those farther out have just gone. Maybe not completely, but they are much reduced, much harder to see. BTW, I actually like the addition of the 'rolling' waves. They certainly can be improved. There's especially one thing that I noticed: from a certain altitude, like above 2000 feet, there's clearly a repetitive 'tiling' to see. The 'tiles' do not overlap properly at their edges. I don't have a screenshot of it and don't notice it in your screenie. I also notice that I never see any birds (seagulls) when I explore the new islands. Don't know enough about seagulls to judge whether that might be correct? But thought I'd find them about every place...
  21. Mind you, we don't fly Cessnas or Ikarus in DCS, so you rather should compare it to 25 minutes of MiG-29 flight for € 12,500 (btw, that's the tag for a subsonic flight). The most convincing argument for my spouse is not the money, but how much more ecological it is when I 'fly' on our own solar panels instead of burning hundreds of gallons kerosin with afterburner. . Always can catch her...
  22. Wrt experimental 'v02exp' I noticed 2 things it would only work in 'auto' mode and then display 'standing' ─ and not with 'fixed seating' mode that I was used to enable in v2.08. it worked fine in StreamVR Home and IL-2, but in DCS it set me high above the cockpit (resp. in Hangar above the menu). That centered only for the fraction of a second. If I remember well, I've come across that issue in some other thread before. Need more testing to decide whether I keep to it or go back to snapping mode. For me it's not (yet) an absolute 'better'. For newbies it's certainly easier to set up. However I hope the author keeps both version alive!
  23. There are YT videos testing the VR-3 with DCS and even a 'DCS thru the lens' one, so they seem to work together. At least with the right hardware. I am also looking much forward to the announcement on 21. Especially hope they'd get off the subsription fee.
  24. just to mind you, probably a mistype, 'vrcompositer.exe' should be 'vrcompositor.exe' to make a difference, shouldn't it?
  25. As of 2021-09 and Openbeta 2.7.5: An OVGME installation ends in P-51D not available anymore and no Cessna visible. Putting the folder in Saved Games results in, of course, P-51D still available but again no Cessna. BTW, what do you exactly mean by 'Only one mod of this type right at a time'?
