I'm pretty sure the previous pilot left some .. bodily fluids behind in my one. It looks like a public toilet in that cockpit :fear: Its oddly pleasing

Realised this should be in bugs and problems really, mods please move? I have done a search to see if anyone else is having this issue, maybe its buried up in one of the long stickies, sorry if it is. I just bought the Mig 21 Bis, and I am playing it with the Oculus. When I look back along the fuselage, it seems bits of my plane are missing. For example, the wings are not attached (wish I was joking, they just kind of float with a big gap between them) and it looks like the weapons pylons are glitchy too. Is this a known issue? I haven't tried it without Rift yet, to see if thats whats causing it. EDIT: Actually it worse than that. From the cockpit perspective, most of the side and back of the plane is missing. Its fine in external view. Screenshot attached Also I am trying to decide if I like the "lived in" look of the cockpit. The previous pilot looks like he was a right skanky bar-steward - I'm half expecting to find russian boogers wiped on the altimeters :D Can we get some sort of cabbagey fart smell sim-sachets to order too?

Oculus Rift and DCS World Discussion
CookPassBabtridge replied to tobaschi's topic in Virtual Reality
I have the issue with applying pressure causing the click stops to suddenly jump, but only on the left side. The right one is ok. In terms of IPD and relief settings, to be honest I have struggled to see any difference no matter what I do. The only effect of relief setting appears to be to let me see more of the rift screen, but it has little noticeable impact on aberration, focus or... anything really. I know someone will come along and say its vitally important, but I cannot personally see any difference. There was even a theory that IPD wasn;t fully implemented within 0.4.2, but that may have been a vicious rumour (that I find believable). -

Gave the Su-25 a go, I thought it looked great personally. She handles like a tranquiliser darted Warthog though. Not tempted to stray just yet :) -

Hmm sounds odd. I have not tried the Su-25, but all the other cockpits look fantastic. I have sat in the A-10, the Sabre, the Mi-8, Black Shark and Huey, and they all look better in the Rift because everything now has relief and texture. The only caveat to that is when you are sitting 'back' from the panels, and things can get a kind of halo around them due to the resolution, but lean in and they look incredible, especially things like altimeters and the warthog's MFCD's / buttons. I will have a sit in the Su-25T tonight and see what its like. I tend to ignore it because I dont have the paid module and dont fancy all those keyboard shortcuts (I am an inveterate switch-flicker :) ). I think I know what you mean about flat surfaces though - the Mi-8 has a few of these and they don't look as good. Perhaps busier cockpits hide the effect. -

Regarding zoom, its actually quite tolerable in the Rift. As mentioned above its in P3D and I also experienced it in a HL2 mod, Estranged. Just feels like looking through binoculars. @Derek, thats a shame. As you say it would be good to have a CH or maybe even TM offering. -

Going back assuming you'd read the thread, yes it did seem a pretty odd thing for you to say ;) Anyways, no harm no foul. To be honest I will just wait for TM's response. If its not useful I will look at alternatives. Cheers all. -
Greasing up the Warthog
CookPassBabtridge replied to tietze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well thats slightly patronising isn't it? The entire thread is about stiction my friend, and that is what I have. Its this issue: A fair few people have reported adding grease and it going back to stiction, including the user Ronin who is in this thread and mentions it in his video on sanding. No, I won't be taking any pictures, and thankfully its up to TM whether they will take a return. -

CookPassBabtridge replied to tietze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Aaaand its back. Left the stick to sit overnight, can only assume the pressure on the greased areas pushed the lube out. Stiction is back again in the exact same spots. Should this be happening on a newish (2 months) stick or should I RMA? -
Hello chaps Probably opening up a can of worms / grumpiness here, but I am reading general internet opinion on the future of PC CPU's. We've got 8 core PS4's and XBoxOne's. Games are almost always written on console first then ported. Some devs are starting to write to take advantage of more than 4 cores. We've got Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen coming up with support for more than 4 cores. We've got X-Plane that can use more than 4 cores. We don't know whats going on with EDGE, but I alternately read "no more than 2" right up to "could use 6". But I keep hearing "you don't need more than 4 cores for ANY PC gaming". Is this true for all flight sims, now and future (2-3 years)? Is this true for all games, now and future? (2-3 years)? Someone else tells me the 8 core in a console is nothing like an 8 core in a PC. I thought AMD deliberately made them to be similar to PC architecture? Is it true that "All you need is QUAD", now and forever more, or can quad core users envisage a time in the not too distant future where their chips are relegated to "mid range"?

I dont know about that box. It looks a bit like a kubrickian monolith :) Off top of my head, the Ka-50 Black Shark has a 3d cockpit and pilot. All of the paid modules are 3D too but may not have a pilot. Talking of controllers, do you by any chance have any plans to make a heli cyclic and collective? At the moment there is very little affordable choice out there, with a good setup being easily upwards up $1000 :( I think there's quite a few folks that would rather fancy a nice looking controller for their Huey or Black Shark :D Is force feedback tough to do? That would be awesome for the trim systems. -
Thank you for the link :)

Greasing up the Warthog
CookPassBabtridge replied to tietze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I can't reproduce it now, so I guess its gone away for now :) On a different issue, can you add an extension to the warthog and turn it into a cyclic? That would be cool, especially if I can mount that on the Obutto revolution I am planning. No force trim though, huh :( -

Just an update, took the hog apart, cleaned out the grease. I didn't realise the ball popped open so easily, left the wires etc intact and didn't unplug or desolder anything. Once all clean I put some of the molykote 44 in, some on the small inner ball, some on the outer ball and some inside the cup and on the lip of the cup. Then a little on the inside of the pressure ring, and out it all back together. As I am new to this kind of thing I was worried I might break something or screw it up, but it was fine and the stick is now way smoother. I can even exert a little downward pressure when moving it and its ok. There is still a little clunk as it goes across those ridges in the ball, but I am not going to sandpaper it at this stage. I was surprised at how thin and how little grease was actually inside, I am not surprised it was sticky at all. I was expecting to need a cloth to get it all out, as it was, some cotton buds did the job - thats how little was in there. Anyway its a lot better now. I don't know how long it will last, but I am hoping that as its a lot thicker it will be a while before I have to open her up again. Plus I still have most of the tube left :D Cheers all for the advice -
English comms in Russian Jets FC3...
CookPassBabtridge replied to NatoBoomerang's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I dunno if anyone ever did this, but I would love to see a "Black Shark / Su-27 Russian to English" video, where someone goes through the dials etc and explains exactly what the acronyms mean. Cyrillic is an interesting alphabet and way easier to learn than many think, but of course the Russian acronym for an instrument is not going to just be a cyrllic stand-in for english words. Case in point, this from wikipedia on the BMD, otherwise an IFV in english: It would be cool to be able to fly with the original russian dials and know what they mean. Like Firefox. You must think in Russian :D -

Hi chaps I don't know if any of you are having the same issue as me, but my Rift is starting to smell like a Sumo wrestler's jockstrap. Sticking that foam on permanently wasn't the best solution given the sweatiness of the target demographic (speak for myself lol). I am now a bit embarrassed to let anyone try it. Mmmmm. Dishcloths. So for anyone interested, there is a kickstarter just .. started, called About Face. You can get comfy, non smelly, washable replacement face masks for your DK1 or DK2 :) A few of us over at the Oculus forums have taken the plunge, looks like delivery is December. Just long enough for the existing foam to get REALLY rancid ... Pic: If this constitutes advertising then mods please modify / delete :) -
Why all my replay missions are gone crazy?

I will give that a shot, thanks EDIT: OK I tried opening the trk in the mission editor, then saving it and trying again. Also tried playing the replay FROM the editor. Not sure if I misunderstood your suggestion but its still playing back wrong? Cheers for help in any case :) -

Oculus Rift and DCS World Discussion
CookPassBabtridge replied to tobaschi's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi Derek, I have heard that somewhere before. I wish I could remember where I read it, but yes I am certain there was someone who had a multi-monitor display and found it would not play nice with the rift. I have future plans for a triple header AND rift setup, as there are just going to be certain flight sims that won't like the rift and it will be nice to have the option to switch. Also, I dont know if 6 hour sessions are viable with the headset on, it does tend to get rather warm :) Hopefully they will have fixed it by then or I can buy some kind of swicher box that lets me deactivate the triple header with a button. -
Oculus Rift and DCS World Discussion
CookPassBabtridge replied to tobaschi's topic in Virtual Reality
Hi Derek We have a thread over on the Oculus forums with a lot of discussion on DCS and DK2: https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11328 From what I have read, the solution for you may be to set your Rift as primary, as if you don't it seems to inherit the primary's Hz. Also make sure you are running in fullscreen mode, as apparently running windowed forces the inheriting too. One of the Oculus users tested it out, not sure how though. This means you end up doing the one eyed willy dance with the rift to work the menus :( Some have been using Open Broadcaster to mirror the screen, but apparently the update has introduced an incompatibility with it. The end of that thread above picks up on it I think. Its not the best solution, but if you can navigate the menus one-eyed then you will be able to see if it fixes the judder at least. A last ditch attempt would be to disable your main and use the rift as the only monitor, but that probably sounds about as appealing as a beer fart in a broom cupboard. -
Why all my replay missions are gone crazy?
CookPassBabtridge replied to jomar machado's topic in General Questions
Indeed. I made a thread asking for anyone who wanted to share their best tracks to watch in VR and folks kindly replied, however we are finding the same thing - that tracks made before the update have a few fatal inaccuracies that add up over time to a large crash :( See my sig for the link, YMMV and at least one works perfectly. Really good if you have DK2 :) -

You mean... the days of flight sims completely ignoring your GPU may be coming to an end? But I like having to overclock my CPU to twenty billion gigahertz and modifying 20,000 ini files :) J/K, am just peeved as I have been having fights with 'other' sims lately to get them to run smoothly and not look like they are being played on an Amiga 500. Why did this ever become the norm for flight sims anyway? -
DCS Oculus TV - Upload Your Tracks!
CookPassBabtridge replied to CookPassBabtridge's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Hmm its weird, I compared the video to the track, and though you start in the exact same spot, for example, where you land on the runway at 3:55, instead you are about 500 yards to the left of that point, out in the field. Because the terrain is higher, the chopper comes to an undignified skiddy stop. At 5:20 in the video you bank towards the cranes, but in the track playback when you make that turn you are still behind the the power lines, some way back. Of course the terrain is different again and the chopper plows into the ground, whilst of course the track continues to play back. Its quite freaky really :) Gives me a Running Man vibe. Anyone know why there might be such a desync in the track when I play it? I am on the most recent update too. EDIT: Ok the exact moment it goes awry is at 1:55 when you hover over the third pad. The chopper suddenly experiences a pitch up then roll left, only slight, but enough that the skid catches the edge of the pad and spins you about 45 degrees off to where you should be. The rest of the track is then either based on that, or somehow continues to introduce errors. EDIT2: After doing a forum search, looks like the track function is a bit unreliable especially after patches. I guess this may only now work well with newly recorded tracks :( I will add this to the opening post in the thread. -
Hnnng now I have to buy it. I have to buy ALL THE THINGS. Well maybe ... I found a free download on the FAA site, with an edition updated in 1965... do you know if the paid one on amazon actually has enough new info in it to warrant a purchase? I know from uni that flight theory has been revised a lot since then - circulation, momentum effects, coanda, would the old version be primarily bernoulli oriented? I want to be a Naval Aviatorrrr! Rather than a Navel Gazerrrr :)
