  1. Cool :) If you have any tracks of your Mig combat, would you be happy to upload them so folks with that module can check them out? I don't personally have it yet but I noticed a fair few people are downloading the tracks
  2. AHHH decision paralysis :o Well firstly, thanks so much for offering! Erm I dunno really. That Huey track was great, like a theme park ride, so maybe some combat if you are up for it? I don't know if other folks are following the thread at the mo or not, so maybe they can jump in and suggest things, but if not: I tend to struggle following air to air, even though it looks cool, and stuff like ground runs between hills in the A-10 look awesome, so some hilly air to ground would be pretty cool. A-10, Su-25, Ka-50, your choice :) Flying cookie jar footage of course would be obligatory
  3. They would also struggle with cabling. That HDMI lead on the rift is precision engineered to be able to do the required resolution with the lowest possible latency (one reason you cannot add an extension cable). I can't remember where I read it, but right now they do not have the ability to send 4k down a cable without inducing unworkable latency. Possibly just an engineering problem however, solvable with MIRRIONS OF DORRAR
  4. Just for info for those in UK, I bought a 100g tube of Molykote 44M from Sil-Mid, Its about the size of a family tube of toothpaste, and came shipped with enough polystyrene to protect high explosive. Cost £8 shipping, they fed-exed it overnight. Complete overkill, but bloody rapid service. I now have enough lube to keep me in slippery warthogs for years.
  5. I'm no expert, but in combat maneuvering you are always managing your energy. If you can out turn an opponent and get him in your sights without sacrificing energy, then that is better than doing a max performance turn that fails to give you a guns solution. Sustained turn performance lets you do that. You would need to weigh up positioning, speed differential etc and the performance of the opposing aircraft ofc.
  6. Hi Altimaden The right hand part of the chart includes different loads in there too - gross weight line x 1000 :) If you check out the link, it tells you how to work the chart. Useless for the F-15 of course.
  7. I wonder if there's a setting somewhere I need to check. Hmmm. I'll give it another try.
  8. Aww man I don't think its working right after the update :( In my run through I am in a different place from your video and you crash after about 5 minutes :) The co-pilot sort of sat there going "All is well. Nothing to see here", noodling away on the controls as we sat upside down in a wreck :D
  9. That would be great! Personally I have got A-10C, UH-1H, P-51D Mustang, Mi-8, F-86F Sabre and Black Shark 2 :) I tend to binge in the sales lol Yeah I wish they would put zoom back in, or take Bunyaps suggestion of giving you binoculars. Great for targets! As a noob however I want it for reading those tiiiiny little labels on the Ka-50 and Huey switches. Because the chopper cockpits are so much more 'vertical' it can be really tough to get your head close enough to read them. Either that or I headbutt my throttle when peering in at a gauge or something :D
  10. Hi there Right, this is probably total overkill and TL:DR, but I was bored at work and had nothing to do, so now you get: Brain Dump. You may like to read up about maximum sustained turn vs maximum performance turn. Basically when you pull back hard, you are asking a lot from the aircraft and introducing more angle of attack (the angle at which airflow strikes the wing). As you turn harder, you both work the air harder and begin to approach stall angle. In short you begin to bleed off energy because you are asking too much from the aircraft. You see this in the form of shaking. The longer you hold the turn, the more energy you bleed off, and the more speed and altitude you lose. Maybe this is OTT, but this is a graph of maximum sustained turn parameters for an A-10. This is a graph showing the maximum g you can exert on the aircraft, at different altitudes, speeds and loads, without bleeding off energy: You can read more about it here http://kriegsimulation.blogspot.co.uk/2011/01/dcs-10c-warthog-210-kias-speed-to.html . All aircraft will have their own chart, but effectively you need to experiment to find those limits. Maximum Performance turn is different and will be much more aggressive, as you are doing it for less time. You will lose some energy but trade it for a better position. Greater bank angle tends to require greater stick back input, or you will essentially slide out of the air. Greater input usually means greater G, but your bank angle is not the only determinant of this. Flight behaviour is hugely complicated and the more you learn the more respect you end up having for real pilots :D Of course you can't be expected to memorise that table, so instead you practise with the aircraft and differing inputs, keep an eye on your G meter and watch for speed and altitude loss and things like shaking. As someone said above, practice doing turns at different bank angles, as well as speeds, altitudes and loads.
  11. To be honest I have only been using it for learning, and have not done a lot of combat beyond training missions. Its a little disheartening to hear that combat is hamstrung by it. Someone mentioned a mod that ensures targets are always represented by at least one pixel which is meant to make dogfights easier etc, though apparently the pixel will quite happily traipse across your cockpit when your target dips below the normal view.
  12. There was mirth when I told my colleagues I was looking for the appropriate lubricant for my joystick, but that I was concerned about adequate penetration. And I do not even work in a bawdy 1970's hospital.
  13. Thanks, I will be checking this out when I get home from work :D
  14. I will be polite and reply even though I don't actually know. Nothing worse than leaving a man hanging after all :) I would imagine removing the springs would make your stick go floppy, which would be both a great innuendo and disadvantage :joystick:
  15. Yes you do get sensations of angle / gravity very much, though this descreases with time. There are some games and demos that do some seriously weird things like that. When I play Lava Inc, it feels like parts of my brain are squashing. Its quite nice :)
  16. Depends on your rig. For me, rift as primary breaks everything. I need to uncheck fullscreen in options and then I am OK. Some say you need a 75Hz main monitor though to prevent the rift running at 60Hz though.
  17. For anyone in the UK, I found a supplier for the Molykote 44M here: http://www.silmid.com/products/molykote-44-medium-high-temp-grease-100gm-tube-915.aspx Dont know if that works out cheaper than shipping from the states or not EDIT: Hmm no its more expensive but you get 100g as opposed to 28g. Cost me £23 in total with shipping, which TBH is stupidly expensive (£8 ). Oh wellz.
  18. Ohh MAN I really enjoyed that! That was one hell of a joyride, full of some awesome touches. "You like this Apache huh? You ain't seen nothin yet" lol. Loved all the low sweeping angles, the side slipping, and especially as a noob to the Huey, being able to see what she can do in the hands of a skilled pilot :) Sense of humour in there too, with the little "You wanna get out?" type moments opening the doors. Looking over at the co-pilot it felt like I'd turned up to an airbase and been treated to a heli ride when the boss wasn't looking. Then plonked it back down right where you started, no one knew it had ever been gone. Really cool!
  19. Is it now OFFICIALLY safe to apply the update then? I held off just to make sure I didn;t break anything, would be good to get word from ED if everything has been ironed out? Just saw the update here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130304 I guess that means go for it eh? :)
  20. Aww shush, there hasn't been one for at least 20 minutes :D Anyway they're like tube trains, come along regularly, usually you leave with strange black stuff lining your nose and sticky stuff on your foot, but sometimes you find a fiver down the back of a seat :music_whistling:
  21. Is that Mig worth dropping full price on at the mo then? :D
  22. I was thinking it might be fun to try the Osprey :) Not a pure heli, which makes it interesting. Sooo many buttons: What about a Black Hawk? I like the idea of VTOL craft though, maybe even the Harrier (may have more fun combat than the Osprey too). Also maybe not for DCS, but I would love to fly some rescue choppers like the Sikorsky S-92, or even do offshore oil platform runs in Super Pumas. Probably more an FSX thing though I guess. Would be fun to see if they accurately model ofshore oil workers as being universally enormously overweight, maybe even a realistic mini-game of balancing the fat guy against the poor little lone female catering crew member to get even weight distribution?
  23. It really is something. Even with the DK2 the first time you put the headset on its such a different feeling, one that always seems to defy words. Imagine going to a Russian airbase, and someone saying "go ahead, climb in", and how cool it would feel to actually be in it. Thats what the rift gives you. First time I loaded up the Black Shark with it I kind of had a little chuckle to myself because it felt like I'd snuck into an airbase and jumped into a Ka-50 :) The outside world tends to fade away. You can't get the same feeling from a screen, which after using the Oculus comes to feel more like looking at a picture. As I say, very hard to put into words because its a 'felt' experience more than a visual or audio one. As for price, its unlikely to come down - the DK2 was sold at cost and they have said the CV1 will be about the same. That said they are making improvements with asynchonous timewarp which should hopefully mean you dont need to invest in a supercomputer to run it without stutter / judder.
  24. Hi thanks Milli, I have been searching around to see if I can find any locally but if I draw a blank I might go down the ebay route. I don't actually have an account believe it or not :D Once tried to sell a drum kit on there, didn't get very far lol
  25. Hi Buznee Hell yeah, that would be great :) Also from a selfish point of view I am learning the Huey, so will be great to see, especially the hovering (for learning) and that bit where you fly between the cranes (for sh*ts and giggles) :D
