  1. Appreciated, but I wouldn't be in this thread if it wasn't a problem. OK, so I can either take it apart and void my warranty, but have smoothness, or I can risk the effects of combining greases. TM did not mention any issue with mixing greases so I will probably just get some guidance off them which type to use. Thanks again.
  2. I take your point, but unfortunately this was the mail I got from TM on the issue: They also sent me the attached document. If my stick was out of warranty I would gladly prise it open and do the full sanding mod, but its a few months old :( I shall have to make do I guess Warthog_pressure_ring_check_EN.pdf
  3. Hi chaps is there any way to get the grease into the ball without full disassembly? My stick is only a few months old and TM have politely bellowed that disassembling the ball = the mighty wrath of warranty invalidation. Its hard to find the stuff for sale that wont need shipping from US to UK. I found these guys http://www.univarsc.com/plist/Molykote--44-High-Temperature-Bearing-Grease,-Medium/44ME180 but you can only buy a pack of 10.
  4. I am a sale binger, trained to be that way by Steam :) Especially lately now I have a DK2 and there is a paucity of deep experiences for it, I just bought all the 'full' simulations barring the more recent, and so expensive ones. As someone said above, I like just sitting in them and flying about, especially with the Rift. I am putting time and love into the Huey and the Warthog, but its nice to go and zoom about in the Sabre. Mi-8 tanks my frame rate sadly, but I have a new rig planned which should fix that :)
  5. If any of you guys would be interested in uploading cool tracks of yourselves, or watching the tracks of others for watching in your rift, I started a thread here about it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130800 I think DCS' ability to actually put you in the pilot's shoes is an amazing function. It would even be cool to make an 'official' set of tracks to download from steam / the ED website as a kind of interactive trailer, viewable in the rift. Personally I just wanna see guys doing impossible sh*t flying in between oil rigs :D
  6. Yeah something is definitely off with mine. I am using open beta too, and I've held off downloading the recent patch because everyone's machines were exploding, so that may be why. For me you kind of fly gracefully around a bit, go lower, open your airbrake and then thats it :) Having said that I downloaded a track from a forum post I found, and the author had said he was landing on a carrier. When I started it, he was somewhere inland, so ... yeah. I dunno lol
  7. Hi Exorcet Thanks for uploading those, I really appreciate it :D I'm guessing its because I lack the right module, but for some reason the aircraft are not engaging each other at all in those tracks. I expected not being able to hop in the cockpit though! :( May also be something to do with the update, but hopefully others will be able to run your tracks as intended. Hopefully folks can report back with what they are finding :) Were you the F-15 in each of these?
  8. Hello I know that many guys here have managed to get their paws on a DK2 and have been enjoying the incredible immersion the headset brings to DCS. It suddenly dawned on me that DCS has a unique ability: To be able to watch first hand, in VR, other people pulling off the maneuvers, combat and feats of flying in the game: Air to air refuelling, awesome dogfights or proximity flying through oil platforms and bridges. Sure you can get rift formatted youtube videos, but the headtracking is locked. Now you can fully place yourself in the cockpit as someone else flies, and applaud their acrobatics and swoon at their savant-like skill :D Unfortunately I couldn't find too many tracks to download, at least from the site here... so this is a request - to those willing to share their tracks, whether moments of auspicious victory, festering failure, downright silliness, or dark moments of horror, to post their files up so the community can enjoy them in full VR, with you gaining not-so-virtual adulation / medals / requests for book signings :) If you are up for it, it might be worth indicating whether there is a lot of maneuvering, especially inversion, as this can be the most nauseating for those fairly new to their headsets, maybe something like the Oculus Share "Comfort Factor /5" approach. That way people can avoid hurling when you're aileron rolling and puking when you're immelmanning! To creators: It seems the track record function has been borkened by the recent patch, so any tracks you made before the update will likely not fly as you remember, making you look daft as you fly into a hill that wasn't there last time you looked :) Unfortunately it looks like only new tracks are going to work! To users: Just remember to break any headtracking / view movements present in the track by pressing F4 then F1 :) I just checked with an Mi-8 track I got from here and the override works fine. <0> << Oculus smiley :D
  9. Have you tried deselecting the Full Screen option in the settings? It will revert the base client to windowed, but the game will run in the rift as long as you have autodetect on. Only side effect of this is a possible 'throttling' the DK2 to 60HZ if your normal monitor is not a 75Hz capable and set to it.
  10. I have been wondering this too. So it looks like for now, hold off updating.
  11. Yes, and be careful not to land on any sheeps or deers when you crash because they are endangered specieses :D
  12. I've had this problem in the past. I had a downloaded profile and had renamed the default so the game ignored it. When I could no longer assign anything, I went and deleted the downloaded profile, reinstated the default and this unlocked the assignment fields in setup. I also have profiles in there for my stick and throttle, but it was only the rudders that were affected. DCS doesn;t seem to like the combats :( EDIT: To find the files, navigate to your Eagle Dynamics folder, and I think you need to look for the MODS subfolder, then aircrafts, then the plane / chopper you want to change, then go input, joystick. You should see the profiles in there. If they are lua files and not diff.lua, then you will need to do some editing of the file. I don't have the info to hand as am at work, try doing a google search for DCS diff.lua profiles or something. You need to delete a line from the beginning and end of the file to make it work, though this is pre-update and may now be broken.
  13. Heh yeah I tried that demo, same thing - straight in with the spinning, at a stage where I didnt have my vr legs yet. Whipped the headset off :) Once its stable, that demo is f***ing awesome - at least for me it was one of the "emotional" rift experiences! I sometimes do the Rift Chuckle, which is when something is so amazing that you involuntarily laugh. But it also brings a nerd tear or two as well :D I'm in space. BEEP. Space. There's the earth, spinning away. BEEP. :**)
  14. Hi I only play offline at the moment as I am learning (mostly practicing take offs, landings etc) and will not be jumping into MP imminently. Given the issues with the update, is the recommendation to hold off installing it for now? Any word on when it might be "safe"? :) EDIT: Ehhh should have read post above me lol
  15. Yeah A-10C training can break frequently if you miss waypoints. I found the TGP and maverick training did that a lot, you needed to be over the right bit of map for it to trigger (sort of fly past the X shaped range area with it to the left of your cockpit). Sadly the only thing you can do is start again, and this will probably happen a lot. The upside is you will learn everything much better due to the repetition. I am still very much a newb - new to simming in general as well as new to DCS. I am learning to fly before anything else and just trying to immerse myself in aviation and practicing. I have done all the A-10 training but still not taken her out for any missions beyond a quick setup in the mission generator to free practice startup, taxi, take off and landing. It also helped that I bought the TM HOTAS Warthog - nothing like a bit of investment to help motivate the learning curve! As others have said, make use of any resources you can find. You may be sad to hear that the manuals, IMO, are required reading. That said, there's stuff in there thats massively helpful and so often gives you a "OH SO THATS WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG" type moment. The A-10C one is about £15 for 660 pages, and apart from being printed in black and white on cheap paper is really good (unless you go for the £115 hardback colour version). It is a hugely steep learning curve though, and can at times be immensely frustrating. If you feel you just cannot get something, thats not you being crap, its the sim being extremely accurate! There are a load of training materials available in a sticky on this forum somewhere too, plus a training wiki. get yourself subscribed to some of the DCS squadron YouTube channels too :) I think the "try fail, look it up" method works well. As long as you ask questions of yourself to figure out what you did wrong, you keep moving forward. DCS is about incremental improvement, the satisfaction of doing it just that little bit better every time.
  16. I canceled the update in the standalone, and am holding off on installing. Is it provisionally / officically fixed as of now, or is the advice to wait until some specified (?) time?
  17. Unplug your rudder pedals and throttle. Enjoy your nice smooth EVA :)
  18. Hi chaps I can only find delay info from April, can we not assume we've HAD the delay already, e.g. they were meant to come out mid-year but were pushed back to Sept / Oct? I can't find any recent info confirming that Nvidia are still running behind, as they apparently switched back to the 28nm process precisely because 20nm was a no go. EDIT: They are releasing tomorrow! Can buy one already: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX980-Graphics-Cards-04G-P4-2982-KR/dp/B00NI5DA2E/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1411073358&sr=8-10&keywords=gtx980
  19. Thanks man I will take a look :) EDIT: Haha cool. I probably have the tools to do that. Just need to find a local B&Q or something (UK based here :D )
  20. haha hello there. I believe we met on the Steam forums :D Yeah those crosswinds look really nice, almost too good to use! Whats the estimated shipping on them?
  21. Are those front plates meant to come with screws? Mine just sort of sit on the pedal unit.
  22. Lol thanks for the securing tips chaps :D I actually compound the problem by having a wheelie chair on the same wooden floor. I had been using a doormat to keep the chair still. Sort of works but then suddenly you will jet across the room when making a maneuver. Also compounded by having a step ladder with my rift camera on between the desk and wall lol. 2 nights ago I brought out the big guns - a deep scraggly BATH MAT. Yeah. Dem mats. So the front of the rudders are gripping onto the door mat, and the wheelie chair perches atop an old bath mat. BECAUSE I AM A PROFESSIONAL :D
  23. I really hope thats an unfounded rumour or Nvidia find another supplier.... are those guys the only 20nm capable outfit around? :O
  24. Awww hell yeah! Thanks  EDIT: Would rep again but the evil forum mistress won't let me :(
  25. Yeah, tbh I am expecting to jump back in tonight and have it wobbling all over the place again :( I don;t know if it was pure placebo engineering, but it did seem smoother, as you say. Not the head movement round the cockpit, but the movement of the aircraft and of the terrain. Could be totally imagining it though :D PIT JIGGLE :spam_laser:
