  1. Threat circles already exist. When you click on the item you should see a white circle around it indicating its range, and a larger circle around it indicating its threat circle. You can then use the trigger zone to visually mark how big the threat circle is by overlaying it on the item.
  2. Stratos... I think I know what you are trying to do. I am going to attach a .miz to this reply here. Download it and tell me if this is what you are talking about. Pay close attention to what I did in the flight plan of the "Smoke marker" Helo, particularly around waypoint 2. I set the Helo's task as AFAC... If you don't it won't give you the right options to attack a target group. The helo should first make a pass to visually ID targets, then come back and put markers on them. I did notice one thing in this experiment. Since smoke markers cannot kill a tank or IFV, it will go through every single rocket it has marking the targets. Unless I put something to say, hey when out of ammo, or targets marked, go home... it will do it all day. LOL. What I did to fix that is told it to only attack for THREE minutes total on each group of targets (I placed 2 groups). STOP CONDITION / DURATION 3:00 That seemed to do the trick. I also set up a FARP at Kobuleti, where the mission starts, to make helo launch and recovery easier. Pick through what I have here and tell me if this is what you are trying to accomplish. 3. Here are a few items that I find makes for something *I* would love to play, over and over. 1- CLEARLY defined goals. I appreciate missions that tell me exactly what I am expected to do. You can even tell me what my rules of engagement are. Tell me you want me to stay with the escort till waypoint 7, and not to deviate from that because there is a fighter sweep handling any enemy interference. I don't want to feel, well they'll be ok, let me go pad my kill count. If I am part of a strike package in an Su-25T and my only job is to take out a column of tanks, I want to know that I can do this and RTB feeling job well done. I don't need a "by the way, can you also take out flight X's targets too, they're only 50 miles away". 2- Intel: I get it if we are going into a place where there might be last minute manpads or a dude with an RPG on the roof, as those can be highly mobile. But that entrenched SAM site, should not be an afterthought that only spawns in 15 minutes after I have overflown their location. I am ok with not seeing something on the F10 map. I am not ok with not having it in my briefing that there were spotted SAMs on the NE outskirts of Gori. Never underestimate the power of adding RECON PHOTOS to a briefing. A lot of us are visual people. 3- Challenge me: The mission "Sochi Olympics Crisis" was an excellent one for me due to the fact that as a pilot JUST learning the Mi-8 Hip, it forced me to focus on hovering in position for an extended period, and has made me better for it. I love missions that give me a chance to hone in on areas just outside my comfort zone, because it makes me a stronger pilot once I pull it off. 4- Use the weather and time: Contrary to popular belief, I do not always like to fly at 12 noon in clear skies. War does not always wait for the weather to clear. Some of the most challenging missions that I have enjoyed might take place at dusk, or just before sunlight, or even in the dead of night in a thunderstorm. It's just an extra layer of SA for me. That having been said, make sure I am in an aircraft designed to handle that sort of flying. 5- Reward me: This is not a game where at the end of the mission you get a level up, or experience, or an uber-leet-weapon-of-doom. However it cannot be stated enough that I really enjoy when I hit my target, or wipe out the intended enemy force and get a message saying I did a good job. Even better if I am doing carrier ops, land back on the ship, and get the double bonus of being told "Nice trap". Kind words and a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED message go a long way with me to making me feel like I just saved the world... again. 6- Spellcheck. Yeah the grammar nazi in me is coming out. Sorry, I was an English minor in college, and an editor in the past. Please spellcheck your mission briefings and any messages within the mission. I realize no one is perfect, but always put your best foot forward, especially with so many resources online to ensure things are worded correctly. 7- The Right Tools For The Job: I have not seen this as an issue much, but I appreciate when a mission gives me the ordinance I need, and enough fuel for the trip. I don't need to be overloaded, and I also do not need to ditch a multi-million dollar aircraft because I did not have enough gas to make it to a divert field. 8- KISS: More than just an awesome rock band, KISS stands for Keep It Simple, Stupid. You don't need to have flights running around near Maykop if your theatre of operations is by Batumi, and you don't need 5 million SAMs to defend one power station. Stick to the mission critical elements and maybe if the scenario calls for it, a couple of AI flights that might be involved later. Adding too much always ends in lag. 9- Use Your Voice: While I understand that not everyone is a voiceover pro, this can go a long way to making a mission enjoyable. I am available as well if anyone needs a strong sounding commander voice. 10- Story Story Story: It does not have to be very detailed or last 15 chapters, but having a sensible story makes the mission something I really sink my teeth into. A prime example of this is the "Saving Badger" mini campaign. Write your story, before you write your missions. Ok that is all I have for now. I hope this helps. I will say that I have thoroughly enjoyed A LOT of the missions we have come up with, so keep them coming folks!
  4. Wow.... just... wow! LOL
  5. (Held in reserve for other video links to keep the list together.)
  6. The latest upload as of yesterday, 2-11-2015. This begins a new series that will feature the Mi-8 Hip and the Ka-50 Hokum. The first video only has the Hip in it, as only the Hip was necessary for this part of the story.
  7. A few people on youtube and facebook asked me how I created missions. This will be rudimentary to most of you, but I came up with this video to help explain. 2 Part series featuring the same mission played from two different pilot points of view: Last video in the Su-33 series... FOR NOW...
  8. Please note that some of these missions I created from scratch, in the mission editor. For example this next one. And some I modified from downloads. My creations below-
  9. Part 2 of the playlist features an F-15 flight and the beginnings of the Su-33 and Mi-8 Hip flight series. (From this point on I start using annotations IN the videos to tell funny things, so make sure you have them turned on) F-15C First Flight Su-33 First Flight Mi-8 Hip First Flight
  10. I'm still a relative newcomer, having only REALLY been flying in earnest since Early November. This has not stopped me from chronicling my experience with DCS World from that first Frogfoot flight, to today's Mi-8 cargo slinging goodness, or Su-33 carrier traps! I created the alter ego- "Chernyy Rossii" (Black Russian) for my youtube videos featuring Russian aircraft, and silliness ensues. I will make this an ongoing thread as I add more and more videos, but for now, the list of videos you will see below represent what I have posted to the youtube playlist so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frogfoot Flights:
  11. Lol. I just found it myself! Life raft for the win. I am going to have a little fun with that.
  12. Oh wow. That is a lot more sinister. I hope it gets fixed soon.
  13. So what I am getting here is don't use the radio commands to drop troops? Just fudge it with messages to land and spawn troops based on triggers (unit in zone, unit at 0 speed and altitude etc)?
  14. Btw Badger, I think you should list that video. It is funny stuff.
  15. Yeah that is a common error to make, that or putting the wrong zone in. I am a stickler for naming stuff specifically according to where they are, what they do, etc. Otherwise confusion sets in.
  16. Lucky, do you have FRAPS open (or on your taskbar) while you are trying to run DCS and OBS? Often that is the culprit. When I run OBS I set its processing priority to "above normal". I have not had an issue. However that being said, I rarely stream DCS World. It is not much of a "streaming game" as others I play. I instead use FRAPS to make movies for upload to youtube. What are your video settings in OBS? (Screenshot will do)
  17. Hi guys, quick question. As I have become rather enamored with the Mi-8, are there any plans on incorporating more helos into the server lineup? I'd love to hop in and fly alongside you all, but I don't always want to hop into something with fixed wings. So far my experiences on the server and on teamspeak have been top notch! I will give you all a shout out on my youtube.
  18. Absolutely correct on your assumption of what the SAM units are. If you look at the last two letters of the SAM SA-11 it tells you what they are too. LN is the launcher, CC is the command and control, SR is the radar. As for your AI choppers. That is odd but I am gonna stab at why that may be happening. Check to make sure you are entering in feet and not meters. If you have a mismatch in what you are entering it can be frustrating. I had set my main game options to imperial, and was trying to keep my helos below 200 feet... well lo and behold I was actually entering meters. 200 meters is a LOT more height than 200 feet.
  19. Ah sweet! This may well be the solution I have been looking for. Thanks so much SilentGun! Edit, it works!!!
  20. Yes and I did not test to see if I could contact a regular airfield tower since my mission I am creating had me out in the middle of nowhere. An ATC truck? That's a thing? Ok For the Russian side, what am I looking for in the ground vehicles? What name?
  21. Necro'ing this thread because I still have no clue after doing all the steps people suggested in here. I have the radio trigger working on my joystick. It pulls up R-863 radio menu. I have the channel set correctly on the center console. switch is not on intercom, but on radio. AM frequency, laryngophone is off (Pretty much exactly like the highlighted pictures on page 1 of this thread). I even fiddled with all the volume knobs I could find to make sure they were set to max volume. Is there some kind of power switch for the R-863 that I am missing? Something that is NOT automatically flipped on during an autostart procedure? (Yeah I been using autostart lately, still trying to learn the helo) Is it because I am trying to contact a FARP? Do they not work the same as regular airport ATC?
  22. Yeah I did, DarkFire. It was that video that prompted people to PM me and ask how I was able to get it to work. Awesome, I am happy to have helped! Best of luck to you!
  23. Ok I will redownload it if you have it ready and try it again in the frogfoot.
  24. Howdy. I am not sure exactly HOW the embark and disembark commands work, but I was able to make a small mission where I could at least give THE IMPRESSION of embarkation and disembarkation. I uploaded a video of it to youtube, so rather than write a long treatise on how I made it work for me, I can point you there. Just so you know, I did not use the embark or disembark options at all, just the landing waypoint action, and a couple triggers. See video link below. I hope this helps you. I absolutely love using the Mi-8 to pick up and drop off troops. You might also want to download the "Sochi Olympics Crisis" mission on the user files page, and dissect that. While that is a bit more complicated, involving lua scripting (I am so not at that level yet), it does give an idea how to do things like fast-roping from a helo. If anyone else knows how to PROPERLY use embark and disembark, please share with us newer mission creators. Thanks!
  25. I tried it twice as an Mi-8 Hip for blue team. The first time i did it, something weird happened. It spawned me in at the FARP but I was either in the air with my engines off or not on the FARP at all. The moment I got into the cockpit, my helo blew up, and an AI was designated as MY player name, but I could not control it through any normal means. I reloaded the mission and my helo was ok, but number 2 in my wing had the instant destruction thing happen. 3 and 4 were ok, but I did notice I could not arm myself to take out the helos and ground units along the way to the recon areas. Instead, I simply avoided combat and stuck to the recon parameters. I must have lucked out, I found what I was looking for somewhat easy and completed the recon. Very nice little mission. I may try it again later today with the Su-25T or something else.
