  1. VJ First have you done a "repair" using the DCS updater to check that all is well with your install? If not its probably where I'd start Good video explaining it here, forgive me if you know all this I'll try to make a short"ish" video running through the whole skins procedure from install to going into the game and selecting skins later today, to see if that helps too I'll post up a link when done
  2. Also ASS-uming you already know that to select a skin you need to click on the relevant aircraft then when the details are shown in the right hand side you select the weapons tab and the skins are there This is for an older version of DCS but it works just the same way in the current versions. The difference now is a preview panel has also been added to enable you to see the skin without actually having to execute the mission first Hope that helps
  3. Unfortunately there is another complication, which might be a problem When a skin is created how it looks and when it appears is governed by the the "description.lua" file which should be there along with the "*.dds" files If that file is opened with a text editor (notepad for example) you will see near the bottom a "countries" line with curly brackets and a code inside. That code dictates when the skin should show in DCS and is dependent on the country you are flying for. It gets even worse as some planes won't show for certain countries but we won't go there just yet. So for the Bf-109K4, when you go into the Mission Editor and highlight your aircraft, you'll see country, that has a bearing on which skins will show. I'd suggest for the Bf-109k4 select Germany as your country and most, if not all the skins should show Let us know if that fixes it, if not I'll probably need to re-think and that could take a while as I don't think quickly
  4. I'll look forward to future instructional videos Little_D, whenever that may be. Many thanks for the kind comments, but all I did was follow your tutorial I wanted to get your video some more exposure. Following it to the letter turns the Dora from a Tiger to a pussycat. Anybody who wants to conquer the Dora simply has to watch your video and follow the instructions you give Oh and while on the topic, your video is edited and all the titles beautifully done. A first class professional production.
  5. Well I posted up some videos of the best method I could come up with, but I still wasn't happy as it could still be hit and miss!!! Soooo I revisited and tested various techniques & found Little D's tutorial, was the best method by far. Using his technique the aircraft just floats down onto the deck making the flare height and angle a lot less critical. At last a reliable landing technique Big  and many thanks to Little D His methods are here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2636447#post2636447 Here was an early attempt by me using his technique Even with my ham fisted, sausage fingers operating the stick it touches down without (too much) drama Now if he'd make one for the Kurtfurst :worthy:
  6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQOOoPdmRl8&spfreload=10 This is a great video on what to do to dis-assemble and grease it up (I don't know how to embed a video) I used a Tamiya modelling grease (for models with motors and nylon gears) that I got on advice from Amazon. That is UK but I'm sure it will be available in the US. One tube is more than sufficient. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001Q1AW64/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I've had that grease in for over a year now and the stick is still great Remove all the original grease it's sticky and messy and does not work very well. Alcohol will help remove the old stuff. There is still a tiny little bit of stiction compared to my VKB but greasing it up and then getting an extension is defo the way to go, the difference is night and day
  7. Very Cool Snowsniper Many Thanks for the Kneeboard notes
  8. I was running Starways, which I thought was great......................then I found this and just tried it It's utterly brilliant!!!! What a difference!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
  9. Isn't #1 similar to the Udet Skin in the list already? Number 4 is absolutely EPIC!! I'd love to see that done (if only I had the skill) I do agree I'd love to see some more skins for the Dora, skin competition seems a good idea. I agree an awful lot of the skins are similar & IMHO not exactly lookers..............then again I'm a scruffy git with no artistic taste, so what do I know?
  10. Thanks for that I already had the option disabled but I still suddenly acquired a virtual body I'll give your fix a whirl, much appreciated
  11. Was flying the Dora doing some landings, from a very simple mission I made at Groom Lake Suddenly after several landings (& crashes) I rerun not changing anything but a skin & I acquire a virtual body in the pit I have the option switched off in settings Really annoying, I just do not like it & to make matters worse I can no longer check my flaps, gear and trim positions as his arm is in the way Anybody else suddenly acquire a new body?
  12. Thanks BSS, I already knew that but any reply giving me information is always appreciated I guess due to lack of response its not an area many have played with I'll experiment some more and if I come to any conclusions I'll post up
  13. More or less what it states From what I see in the 190/109 channel one is not used channel 2 is to talk to your flight, channel triangle is tower, channel box??? Or can you just ignore the manual set them to towers or other flights frequencies and they will work? For example assign the box channel to a second airport's tower for example Are there presets that can enable you to listen to beacons, I've only been looking at Nevada but the radio does not have the span to home into the beacons frequencies from what I have seen I'm guessing but is it the case when you set the homing switch Abst that the AFN-2 will home to that frequency and would start to work? I did notice that one of the airports in Black Sea map triggered the direction finder (Batumi?) but I'm pretty much drawing a blank on how it all works and need some help Any info gratefully received
  14. Weegie

    UK Mig 21s

Feels a little odd to be in an RAF MiG 21 :shocking: Really nice skins though both are great Thank You for taking the time to make and the generosity to share
  15. jcomm is probably quite correct. I don't know about anybody else but I find both Kurtfurst & Dora considerably harder to land at Groom. When I go from Groom to Kobuletti or Batumi these birds seem so docile after Groom. Almost like I'm flying in treacle ;o)
  16. Found it You need to press "Apply" Then "Push to Application" Doing that enables you to see the changes immediately without having to reboot the game
  17. I'll give that a go, thanks My real problem is that, at the moment anyway, when you make changes in DCS you need to exit the game to implement the changes. In some games, as can be seen on the first video, you can actually make changes "on the fly" and review there and then. That just makes life so much easier when playing around with settings It not a huge biggie, but I honestly though more people would be using mediator/SweetFX that really knew their onions about this stuff Your reply was much appreciated
  18. Thank You Chuckie
  19. So I got mediator working after doing some searches and have it now running for all 3 versions of DCS (Alpha, Beta & Stable) I have a question in a few videos it would appear that the values can be changed on the fly and be seen in the game immediately. However that is not happening to me with DCS. I can get a rough idea of some of the effects using the static picture feature. I just wondered if this was possible in DCS and if it is what do you need to do to get the settings to change on the fly Here is a clip to understand what I'm going on about [ame] [/ame]
  20. I know what you mean having ordered the FBM in November or there abouts last year and the mods for the extension and Hog adapter in January I got the stick & hog adapter around 10 weeks back and the extension today Its just a (frustrating) fact of life with small volume producers who despite having pretty steep prices are in big demand due to the high quality of their products. It generates large demand in the simm world. They produce in batches so you just have to decide then wait, watch and come the time jump on it, hesitate and the products sold out. I think I waited about a year before placing my pre-order for the Mamba before it became available. On the plus side if you buy and don't like when selling second hand you'll usually get nearly all your money back.
  21. I just ambled a across this thread. I had a very slight stiction on a fairly new Hog I greased mine using Tamyia Cera HG model grease which is for the small nylon gears in model motors etc: I had to clean all the old grease off first which was a real pain as it's very sticky. The old grease seemed very sticky and did not IMHO provide good lubricity The end result is night and day I thought the stick was good before but after the greasing its so much smoother. You gotta try it and the only difficult part is splitting the ball I bought an 8cm extension then greased the stick and it was a totally different piece of hardware. So much more precise and usable On another topic I have a FBM and just got the extension today. I would check at VKB's forum but I do not think that you can install the Hog handle with the extension. It is worthwhile checking prior to shelling out of money involved. That said the VKB Fat Black Mamba is another level above the warthog being so smooth and more precise. Again its something you really will never know about until you try it. http://forum.vkb-sim.pro/viewforum.php?f=25&sid=b08e1064013d7fa6ad15cd9518602885 The VKB software is very powerful but not that intuitive and the manual is only available in Russian. However through a few threads and a guy called Victorus who is a Guru I started to pick it up and can now make the software do the stuff I need and a lot I don't. Just be aware its not difficult but its not a "lead you by the nose" piece of software like the Target GUI (and God knows that has some real limitation too) Sokol if he posts up is guy well worth listening too, he really knows his hardware Just thought I'd pitch in
  22. Thanks Tomsk But as I said landings that smooth are few and far between Have you tried Groom yet, just wondering. I'll go to Black Sea and try your method, funny another guy was also praising the partial power technique to me the other day. So you definitely have something there for sure. It may be a technique to use under certain circumstances and not others The reason for not centering at the threshold is experience has taught me that coming off the power kicks the aircraft to the right As far as the rudders I agree no right and wrong really all preference and degree. I try to stay off the rudder on the approach as it tends to make the nose bob around so I prefer to use the ailerons and point the nose that way, I just find it a bit smoother. Close to the deck when on the flare though yes I do sometimes give the rudder a kick if I start to wander left or right and of course once on the deck they are absolutely essential usually. If anything that landing was too good for illustration as I don't even need to touch the rudder on the roll out and that is VERY unusual
  23. Now that is skill Yo Yo Need to give that a go..........................I know this will not end well
  24. I tried Tomsk's method quite a few times & although I could land it (sometimes) using power set to 1500rpm it brought me more problems than it solved The upside for me was it is a really good way to reduce rate of descent and preventing the overflair/bounce that then results in smashing onto the runway on the second attempt The downside was it increases the amount of time the Dora is in the critical stall regime between 200-160kph. This then resulted in an extremely squirrely Dora, which I found hard to control. Its either because I do not have sufficient speed of reaction (the joys of old age) or a developed enough skill set. I was trying the landings at Groom Lake,so landing the (arguably) trickiest aircraft at the trickiest field I made another video, its very similar to the other one I posted before, just another. Oh and I do not achieve that level too often its usually more of a thump and squeal of the tyres [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g9IM673uyQ[/ame]
  25. As saburo stated OR there is another way to put them in then remove them easily should you want to without affecting the game files Under C:\Users\"My name"\Saved Games\"DCS"\Liveries Where "My Name" is your user name & "DCS" could be DCS or DCS.openalpha or DCS.openbeta depending what versions you are using In Liveries there should be a folder Bf-109K-4, if it is not there add it Then dump the skin in there that way extra skins don't get mixed up with the standard game skins Similar thing goes for missions. Not 100% but I also think the method describes also removes the danger of getting the skin removed at an update Personally I use JSGME for nearly everything as I find it more convenient but the method described works well too. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607 John
