For a sim that supposedly stands head and shoulders above the rest in terms of fidelity there is more talk of balancing here than on any other flight sim forum. 67" (or whatever engined mustang we have, though a period correct model for the bird would be nice) mustangs fought K-4 and D-9 variants. The K-4 and D-9 were not some super secret super rare bird. Would a G-6AS or G-14 be nice? Hell yes, but it's not like the matchup we have is ludicrous or ahistorical. Give the dev team and 3rd party modders time and we will have quite a sandbox in which to play.

Always the 109. Full disclosure I'm totally biased. The 190 and the mustang are so close in so many aspects that it really comes down to the pilot. The 109 has a few distinct advantages though, low speed turn and climb rate. Acceleration is also excellent. It's a lot more fun to fly for me than the 190, but visibility sucks comparatively.

Hell the G-14 would be just as hard for the Mustangs to deal with, it turned even better than the K, made as much power as the P-51 but was much lighter and climbed better. It seems like the pony drivers here won't be happy until they have a D model stang vs a box stock 1943 G-6. But regardless by Jan 1945 the K amounted to 1/4 of all 109's in service right? I wouldn't call that rare.

Nope I kid you not. What do you think this is? It's DCS. This mustang was done on a lark by a couple of guys, well before any other ww2 modules were even conceived. Thus, you need to wait for your new mustang. Furthermore if you really don't think you stand a chance in the current mustang you need more practice. Learn to fly it right and you'll succeed, but nothing is going to change the fact that planes like the 109 are more heavily armed, much lighter, more powerful, climb better and turn better at certain speeds.

The mustang you're flying is complete. The new mustang that is time/theatre appropriate is in development. Wait patiently for Christs sake.

I'm curious why? I mean I get it. Been around flight sims long enough to know that giving a public ETA can be painful if anything fowls up the works with the extremely unforgiving nature of the CFS community, but if not that then why not?

Well that's the problem. Everyone gets the idea that the P-51 vs 109 should see the 51 win all the time because 'Murica won the war, so it's better! But we don't see the critical element here, which is the bombers and 109s ordered to ignore fighters and attack the 4 motors. Oh and last we forget the 109s are outnumbered 10 to 1. 1 v 1 there wasn't much the 109 didn't do better than the mustang, particularly the late G and K. The top speeds were similar, the 109 turned far better at dogfight speeds, it climbed way better and had heavier firepower. The mustang could fly farther, higher, and dive faster. Is it really any surprise that similar quality pilots in 1 v 1 would see the 109 best the mustang? Not really. You simply can't RE enact the environment where the mustang got its reputation right now, so your stuck in a scenario where the deck isn't stacked against the 109. Till it is the 109 will make a very strong showing.
