  1. If you were looking to install 1.5 Beta as a total separate install and not using workarounds for worry about corrupting your current install. In that circumstance you have an extra 30gb or so needed for installation. Not everyone is going to flick around their install between openbeta and stable branch. In the end it's an issue of ED having 3 separate versions of the game always running. Edit: personally i back up things to my external HDD so it doesn't particularly bother me.
  2. I can absolutely see how this would be frustrating to people and I am loathe to blow that all off as "they are looking for something". This announcement is an unexpected event for some who have pre-purchased one that involves the potential expenditure of more money and time. Luckily switching between branches is relatively straightforward but it does consume more space which can leave those who are tight on SSD/HDD space feeling painted into a corner. I've had to install beta to my HDD instead of SSD - download limits and space are costly and tight so I'm not overly thrilled myself. That said, this is an ED decision and not a Leatherneck decision. I applaud the guys for posting about this prior to release rather than after the fact.
  3. My previous joke post aside, I actually enjoy the original language cockpits, it just adds to the immersion for me plus adds some more challenge. It can be a little frustrating when you are looking for a switch and you can't instantly spot what you want but I think it does result in more attention being paid to the operation of the aircraft as a whole.
  4. *mods a cockpit teacup holder* There you go sir! one English cockpit! ;)
  5. This is exactly what I wanted from the Viggen! Top Shelf stuff guys :joystick:
  6. Pre-ordered. Have gone on quite the DCS binge recently. Really wanted to support Leatherneck with this one :) The Viggen module looks wonderful, I've been hammering that manual hard.
  7. I love a good manual! This looks nice and well featured.
  8. The take off roll is very short, it caught me by surprise and I barely managed to keep it aloft and out of a stall. It's a joy to fly, very responsive and very sensitive to input. In future I will have to trim a lot more to tame her a little. My first landing was very bouncy but got her down safely, you have to really avoid any slip, which I didn't. Got her down though after a couple of bounces. Going to have to work on reducing slip and maintaining the correct approach speed with her.
  9. Happy New Year everyone! Looking forward to the Viggen and F-14.
  10. Might be a bit late of a reply but I will post my solution anyway. I went through all the steps I could find on the website here regarding this error - nothing worked. Multiple installation repairs stated it had "fixed" problems (yet recorded none in the log) and continued to either: A) Give the: Error Terrain Initialization on an instant mission or B) Hang on loading of a mission/campaign My solution was complete removal of my current DCS install and any related mods (only mod being Tacview) then a complete redownload of 1.5.5 through the Torrent and a reinstall to a NEW directory not the usual one. One thing I noted with the Torrent is that it would often report different sizes of Torrent which I found unusual. My successful download was approximately 13Gb in size. I presume my prior install of 1.5 was corrupted, as the updater offered varying downloads of between 4GB to 11Gb in size as the update towards 1.5.5 latest version. Unfortunately on limited and expensive data here so it set me back more than I would of liked, but at least it works and I can now finally fly the Spitfire I purchased.
  11. I think they were also interested in the Draken. In the end we went with the Mirage III - for the poorer imho.
  12. The Viggen, and by and large, all swedish aircraft of the cold war are iconic. I Live in Australia and I knew of more Swedish jets than most other airforce's outside of AU, UK and US. With their appearance they are elegant yet highly functional and durable aircraft, the distinctive camouflage pattern and their roundel design was highly eye catching. When you would dig deeper you would see the aircraft were built highly specifically to deal with the localized conditions and threat - there was no unnecessary features on those aircraft. To top it all off, they were built "inhouse" and feature advanced technology at the time. Definitely iconic of the cold war period.
  13. Thanks mate, It's what I kind of figured anyway. I'm in a first world country with the first world problem of disgraceful internet on our "national broadband network" - high speed and cheap for all the country** **except those in rural areas who will only be offered satellite at the rate of $100/month for 5GB....... Even though i have direct LOS to a tower 4km away - an installer (who never actually showed up at their promised times), listed my property as non-serviceable - after a 4 month wait for them to "come out and see". So now I have another 6 month wait for a "low priority" reassessment. This at the cost of $300 a shot. Hence my tightness - DCS 2.0 w/ NTTR would be roughly $600 lol on that plan. It's currently cheaper on mobile broadband :/ So i'm sticking with that at the present. Sorry for the massive whinge fest for anyone who had to read that. On a Viggen pre-order related note: Does anyone have any, more specific, dimensions of the T-shirts? They are (obviously) listed as S, M and L but that can vary globally. I couldn't find anything on the heatblur website. I will probably hedge my bets with a medium as I can always gain some weight if it's too big :P But I would hate to order a medium and find out that I will look like an 80's spandex tight clad rocker with it on lol
  14. G'day Cobra! Does the Viggen support DCS 1.5 and 2.0? Or just 2.0? Moved house recently and out here in the sticks internet is extremely expensive - the size of DCS 2.0 (for example) is very cost prohibitive. Eyeballing the Viggen and T-shirt, need to plan what the outlay will be though :P
  15. While A JA-37 would be nice... a Draken would be much cooler!
  16. It's just gorgeous. The presentation of the Viggen looks amazing and we know LN can deliver on flight modelling and "the experience" this module is going to be the new yard stick I think. I cannot wait to get my hands on this puppy. Imagine the possibilities with the F-14 (and potentially the Draken :D )
  17. Dear Lord that looks amazing Cobra. I love those missile launches over the sea. The detail is beautiful, I am going to love flying this bird.
  18. The Gotland area would be my guess - plenty of sea for sinking ships and close enough for Cold War fireworks.
  19. That trailer looks sensational! Fantastic job LN!
  20. Nice! Will give me a good idea of what I should be doing rather than my soon to be patented "get-it-on-the-deck-let-maintenance-sort-it-out-belly-flop" that I will be predominantly using. So excited for this module.
  21. Fumble with a start up, weave onto the runway, ramp up speed and then promptly crash prior to take off. So like every other module I have then :P Edit: In all seriousness - acrobatics probably.
  22. Thanks for the update Cobra :) Looking forward to all your forthcoming modules, the Viggen and Tomcat are looking to be something special. I really want to see the Viggen though, we haven't seen anything of it yet and it sounds like it's going to be an interesting aircraft to operate. Love the fact that you guys are throwing in training missions/campaigns as well, so many DCS modules miss this sort of feature and I really enjoy getting into a good set of missions or a campaign.
  23. VF-25. "Fist of the Fleet" Who never, ever, operated the Tomcat, they operated the F/A-18.
  24. I hold my Rudder in the Dora, I do relax it though as speed picks up and to prevent veering off the runway. I use a twist stick so lack the usefulness of rudder pedals.
  25. Maintenance vs actual benefit for flight. The performance difference was negligible and only for very high speed operation. Presumably the performance wasn't worth the cost or time of maintenance. And as stated, in later variants the weight and space was used for more important equipment.
