  1. Regarding battery life - although Oculus don't recommend it, I saw a review on YT today saying you can keep on playing with the USB lead connected - a major bonus and no real issue for sim flyers.
  2. As I'm going to be doing my best to get this working as good as possible, I thought might not be a bad idea to add the Quest to the threads here in the VR section. I'll try it using ALVR to start with and report what happens. Would be good to get some input and reviews from others trying it with the Quest. I don't know if this video has been linked on here - probably, but I just found it on YT - and if it's good in the Go, it should be much better in the Quest, especially as the developer is now optimising for Quest and Touch My Quest arrives tomorrow, but Amazon deliveries are always very late in the day here, so I'll spend the weekend getting it set up as best I can.
  3. Sorry I can't say for sure. I just got a fuzzy edge iirc. I just set up my CV1 again (actually, having removed everything to do with it when I set up the S, all I had to do was plug the CV1 & sensors in, activate the Touch and everything was back as it was - no set-up required!) and it felt like a comfy old armchair! Yes, S is clearer - but with that horrid FoV I won't miss it. CV1 was never that bad, for me, never had issues reading gauges etc - just the SDE, really. Bet Quest will blow me away :)
  4. I've been testing as many games as I can. Just got out of Skyrim VR and it looks absolutely gorgeous - but that FoV is awful. You know CV1 is likened to the "ski mask" view? Well what I see with S, even with the lenses adjusted as close to my eyes as possible, is not even like a telescope (or binoculars) - it's oval, with the vertical FoV larger than the horizontal. There's no way I can use that. Looks like it'll be Valve's Index for me, then, though I'll certainly give the Quest a try.
  5. Yes, my router is dual band (one of the Netgear N600 range) and should be easily up to the job. I'll move it back into my VR room to be sure, as well.
  6. Am I the only one that feels the FoV is reduced in S? I don't see anyone mentioning it, but I feel that way every time I put it on. I use VR lenses, but have the S lenses as far towards my eyes as the setting will allow and still think it's narrow. I know the lenses are 5mm closer together than CV1 - with my 69/70mm IPD maybe this causes the reduced FoV. Returning it, anyway, so not that it matters to me any more. In the week I've had it I've done 1 hour in DCS World and about 10 minutes in another flight sim. Just don't feel comfy with that FoV.
  7. Yup, so I returned my Rift S (still got my CV1 though) and my Quest arrives tomorrow - I'll report back on how well I find it working with DCS World. Quite excited, though.
  8. You only have a week to wait for Amazon stock, though. +1 on the tracking - mine has been great. There are sometimes when it goes a little wonky (only with Touch - headset tracking is flawless) but I automatically move my hand a little and it usually kicks straight back in.
  9. Bugger me! Thanks for that - I had a Quest on order with my Rift S but cancelled it - now I'll reorder. Was really hoping this would be possible but never expected it so soon.
  10. I'm afraid not. These are the numbers shown by the Virpil configurator when checking the function of the buttons and axes - which is what I've put here. If Windows or DirectX or any other program gives them a different number, well, that's not my concern (who says it will be used with Windows?). These are the button numbers assigned by the VPC Configurator and that's what the diagram is for. In fact, tell you what - I'll remove it, if it's wrong and we'll let you do one that's correct, for others to use ;)
  11. I'm just going through the only documents I could find for the T50 and it's very obvious that these are for much older versions - looks like they may be up to 2 years old. I don't know if the only one available on the website for the configurator is up to date, I guess I'll find out when I start on that, later today. It's an unfortunate growing trend that documents are lacking for many products (and modules!!) and searching Google and YouTube for info that there is no guarantee is up to date or even accurate is just not an option. For equipment in this price range, there needs to be good, up to date information available either with the product or on the website (there is, after all, a documents menu item there, but it only links to the configurator software guide), which gets updated as a priority when any changes are made to the product. This is the only let-down I have found so far, which spoils the joy of receiving and owning such a fine device. Edit: Yup, the very first action with the configurator shows something other than what is described in the 1.2 manual. Oh dear... (edit - actually, it's the 1.2 manual, not 1.1, but still shows something different) Update: Working it out isn't that difficult - all done now :)
  12. People in the UK wishing to pre-order this module may wish to wait a short while. Because of the current mess that is happening here politically, the Pount Sterling has dropped in value against USD and Euro - it's sure to pick up again before too long and probably well before the F-16C will be released to EA, so no need to worry - just makes financial sense to wait a bit longer ;) Having said that, my order is in, and I'm a pauper :D
  13. Arrived half an hour ago - all I can say is W_O_W!!! :D I still haven't stopped smiling! Here's the comparision to my X56 stick - which seems to need dusting yet again! It looks huge - but actually it only just fits my large hand at max adjustment. Funnily enough, the X56 feels bigger when handling. Now I need to work out all my reassignments. I can think of worse ways to spend a weekend :) It's very stiff out of the box and the centre detente is quite clunky - so I think I'll be swapping the cams for the no centre option. Been reading up on the hard and software over the last 2 weeks and can't wait to get stuck in. Hoping to get in quick and order the desk mounting after the restock in about 102 minutes! One very happy virtual pilot.
  14. My new VR Lens Labs prescription lenses arrived yesterday - the ones with the elastic headband. They are perfect for the Rift S. They allow me to put the lenses as far towards my eyes as the adjustment will allow, so I get the max possible FoV and the clarity is great. They do take 2-3 weeks to arrive and the DHL tracking leaves a lot to be desired, but they are very much worth it.
  15. Ah well - unfortunately, my Rift output video recorder won't work with the S so no videos or screenshots :(
  16. Much sharper picture - also clearer due to being brighter, without (so far) being overly affected by the gamma issue. There is definitely SDE - but it's a much finer pattern than the CV1, so much more acceptable and easier to overlook. I really feel the FoV is smaller, though - and I've put the lenses right up to just touching my sports glasses (which fit very close to my face and are plastic - so hopefully no scratching). The S lenses are 5mm closer together than the CV1 lenses were (I just measured it). Also, objects are sharper than they were before. I'm using an RTX2060. I will try upping my settings later. I did get a little stutter in a very busy scenario with the Black Shark. edit: God rays - not anywhere near the same as CV1, however, they do have a kind of pixelated or blocky halo around white objects (like an orb used to be in old games - getting fainter further out)- at least large white objects such as text boxes. I'll try and get some pics or a recording.
  17. Definitely far better graphics in DCS World 2.5. My main issue so far is that, with the far smaller nose gap, condensation is much more diffcult to clear. I have a 16" stand fan behind me and with CV1 it kept the lenses clear and myself cool - it now has no effect on the lenses. I also tried the various covers - VR Lens Labs/Covers versions (I have 3 different ones) are no good and the Widmo is equally useless on the S. If the VR interface pads from Gauss had had the hooks on the pads instead of the interfaces, it may have been possible to stick them to the foam. Oh well - have to wait for some company or other to come up with something. Might try double-sided tape in the meantime. I also can't get the VR Lens Labs lenses to stay in position over the headset lenses. I have some with a headband coming - they should be okay. Think they'll be here tomorrow, as they didn't arrive today. ***PS - I forgot about the PD. Unlike with the Rift CV1, it didn't come up- with a proper lens set-up option during setting up the headset - I had to go into settings afterwards and set up the IPD and the options for the passthrough etc. As they wwere, the IPD was 63.5 and my eyes began aching within a couple of minutes (I didn't report it earlier because I've got a concussion atm and thought it was that - it isn't). Now I have tried 69 and 71mm it's fine. I'm officially 69mm, but I preferred the CV1 at maximum. PPS: I am positive the FoV is smaller - noticably so.
  18. You can immediately tell how much clearer the graphics are from Home - as soon as the image comes up for the first time, everything is so much sharper. Even without my VR lenses (which I only actually need for the left eye) it's so much better than Rift CV1. Set-up takes a couple of minutes, if that - you could probably do it quicker if you cancelled the usual stuff like First Contact. All I did was unplug CV1 and plug in S - quick firmware update for the headset, followed by one for Touch and draw the boundary - which I'm finding much better than the original one - and that's it. Have had some hand tracking issues - which was weird, as my hands were in front of the headset, about where your cockpit controls would be (the closer ones). Only lasted one or two seconds. So far I'm very impressed. Sound is total pants, mind.
  19. Mine just arrived Alot earlier than I expected - also got mail that my new VR lenses are due to arrive today - off to set up now :D
  20. No - but to only look at this forum for reports on a new headset would be narrow minded, I think. Don't really see what this community has to do with what I posted. Nice that you know that, though - must have some connection to their ordering system?
  21. Wow - Amazon UK are now out of stock of Rift S! - Guess some were waiting for reports from users and now they have them. I checked earlier today and they were still in stock. No restock date, either.
  22. I haven't tried Rift recording for some time - it started going a bit pear-shaped at some stage, so I stopped. However, if I can get it working with the Rift S, I'll make some short videos.
  23. Mind you, if someone ever manages to get the Quest displaying flight sims, I'll have one without hesitation.
  24. note: He has an IPD of 70 and no issues. :P
