I'm quietly going nuts waiting for my throttle to arrive! Will probably be next Friday,as that was the timescale for both my last orders (2 weeks) - but I disconnected my X56 HOTAS and cleaned and packed it for selling, so here I sit, T50CM2 stick in one hand, nothing in the other, making engine roar noises in my head! It's driving me up the wall... :helpsmilie:

Biker helmet visor???

Let's also not forget that you can alter the FoV and refresh rate in the Index to suit yourself and your hardware.

Unless you don't happen to have a Joe Average face shape. I'm still on CV1 as S was a huge disappointment due to having an IPD of 69 - which is nothing special, but Oculus decided to go for Joe Average, probably to keep the price beneath that of competitors, and do away with IPD adjustment. This had game breaking results, giving an FoV more akin to looking through a vertically-oriented oval telescope than a mask. In fact , take the Oculus logo, turn it by 90° and that is similar to the view I had. They may entice many Joe Averages into VR but how many customers will they lose? Even on their own forums, people are turning to other headsets in droves and dumping Oculus, leaving that place full of disgruntled VR newbies who are struggling to get their headsets working properly. Not their finest hour at all. Should have coupled Quest to the PC at least as an option themselves - that would have pleased newcomers and their current customers alike. As soon as I have something better - preferably Index, but that will go back, too, if I'm not happy, I'll be dumping Oculus because in effect, that's what they've done to me. :music_whistling: and PS - I used to run a YouTube channel promoting their Rift CV1 with videos recorded directly from the Rift output and it was popular because it allowed people to see into VR without having a headset (which is how I got into it - thanks GameHard 4.0). I deleted that channel due to Oculus' narrow mindedness.

Usually you just reserve it. They send you an email confirming your reservation - with no obligation to actually purchase - and telling you when your reserved order will be available to buy. From when they let you know the item is ready, you have 7 days to pay, or else the item goes back to stock for the next customer in line to buy. as attached

Logitech/Saitek X56 HOTAS in excellent condx, looked after. Bought a couple of months after Logitech took over Saitek. Original packaging. SOLD! Best HOTAS I've had (out of X52; G940;CH Pro and Warthog) but upgraded to T50, so don't need it any more. 100% working, in vgc and with original boxing etc. Price plus postage. edited: rest of gear sold

Do what ruskybeaver said - use Oculus Tray Tool to set it. **edit - I'm not 100% sure if OTT works with the S yet, but if not, I'm sure it won't be long before it does. Should do, though, as they use the same drivers and software. - just checked on the OTT forum and yes, it should work ;) https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/47247/oculus-traytool-supersampling-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully

I saw a post on Reddit where someone said their Index was due to be sent on the 14th - so we should have some initial opinions in a couple of weeks. Mine's not due until end of August, anyway, so I'm not in a rush to find out, nice as it will be to read reports on it.

'nother review, posted today: https://www.roadtovr.com/valve-index-preview-dslr-oculus-rift-s-point-and-shoot/

Can't see right-click mouse ever happening, as it's coded into the controls of too many modules - and 3rd parties would not be happy if they had to recode everything, regardless if ED wanted to (which I really can't see them doing).

ASW is automatic - you need to switch it off if you want it off, but you shouldn't have to switch it on to start with.

Thanks for clarifying that - I always thought the EU and European Asia stores were one together. Anyway, just got my order in for the new T50CM throttle and very happy. May have totalled over £400 but well excited about it. Must have restocked a little early - though the site was very slow, so must have quite a few visitors. Really pleased you guys managed to get it released well ahead of schedule.

I use a large 16inch fan on a stand behind me - doesn't cause "tears" or other discomfort and keeps my lenses clear. Then, when I'm in an open cockpit driving sim (or flying a biplane) I have it blowing in my face - for a fantastic realism effect :)
-
Just to remind those people who are after certain hardware that has been out of stock that there is a restock tomorrow in the Eurasia shop at 06:00z (that's 07:00hrs UK/BST and 08:00hrs CET). Fill yer boots :)

I have heard that it can make a difference in fast combat. Saw it tested on YT in milsims, but as it was not possible to see the difference, only have it verbally described by the tester, it's hard to know if it would be noticable in flight sims as we can't see how fast a movement has to be (in that video), before it starts to be affected by the refresh rate.
-
Ha - I came up with using a remote keypad for racing sims in VR (my wheel is on a separate desk to my PC/HOTAS etc) but I think building your own UFC is the best solution and means you can have your own layout and you can easily feel where everything is and get it right almost every time. As long as you don't leave your drink in the way.... ahem...

I'm wondering to what extent I'll be able to use opencomposite with the Index. Hopefully, without issue. Otherwise I s'pose it will require Steam to be running whenever I'm in VR and I could do without that extra resource drain. I've been using opencomposite for a few months now (with CV1) and it's been very good, especially with flight sims.
-
I doubt it - they come on a little stand (the Constellation sensors) and I saw images of them just sat on a shelf in a set-up (on Valve's own pdf guide) HERE

It is a shame - but I might have been able to do something. It seemed for some reason my Quest was having difficulties with its connection - even when I was stood right next to my router. It would only connect at all on the 5GHz band, and even then, unreliably. Unfortunately, I had already had enough by that stage and decided to go with the Index I had reserved. If you get one working well, I'm sure the Quest would be great.

With all the 'hands on' videos and reviews now out since testers and promoters have been receiving their Index in recent days, I'm getting more and more convinced that it's the right way to go for me. I wouldn't have touched a Vive or -Pro, but this is a whole different prospect and I'm definitely more excited about it than I was with the Oculus offerings I tried. Just need one of those reviewers to go and sit in a DCS cockpit...

Yeah, I would srongly recommend anyone thinking of buying a Rift to buy it from Amazon and not directly from Oculus - especially if you are unsure. I returned both the Rift S and the Quest and with both of them, whilst reading horror stories about returns on the Oculus forums, I took my headsets to the post office (less than 100 yards from my house, fortunately) and the refund was on my account within 2 hours. If I'd wanted, I could have filled out the return request and then still had 3-4 weeks to fully test the headset and see if the problems could be fixed or would become acceptable and then still handed it in and got a refund within hours. Seems the sensible way to go, with so many different headsets being released this year - the Year of VR :) One way or the other....
-
I'm unable to do anything at all with my Quest except pair it to my tablet, so it's going back for a refund. Real shame - I was hoping it would be a good supplement to my CV1 and later, Index, but I'm sick of having silly problems with Oculus hardware. Their policy always seems to be "sell it now and fix the problems later" and for a £500 device that's unacceptable. I was happy to do so for the CV1, but these problems should be a thing of the past now - they're not new tech issues, they are rubbish software and quality control issues. I had to have my original Rift replaced under warranty - not interested in doing that again with Quest and if it's a software issue, well see above. Congrats Oculus - you lost another customer, and afaic it's pointless buying any more software from their store when I'll be switching to Valve in 3 months' time. ***just after completing the return request I finally managed to get the thing to update and work. Well, I say "work" - it rarely responds to any of the Home menu selections I make, even with a strong WiFi signal and waiting several minutes (eg can't get the library to appear and store takes a couple of minutes). On top of that, even though I have games that are supposed to not require repurchasing for Quest, they don't show up in my Oculus app on the tablet. I'm impressed with the graphics quality - seems better than Rift S, however, it's still going back due to the lack of decent functioning and the fact that I've had zero response in 2 days from Oculus support. Even if they are busy, it's no excuse, really. I had excellent support with the Rift, but I think they have gone downhill since, and will only sink further, the more FB 'outsiders' fiddle in Oculus' operation. See y'all.

Yes - same issues I had and same conclusion as Svsmokey. Though for me, the picture I could see was very clear, with a large sweetspot - even stuff well away from the centre was clear, but the FoV and edges of view were dismal.
-
Okay, I bought a new phone/tablet with the required android version. Was due a new one tbh. Still not happy, mind.
-
Well it looks like I'll be returning my Quest without ever having switched it on. Turns out you need a phone and it has to have android 6 or later (my phone and tablets have 4.4 and can't be updated to later versions). Not very happy at all - don't see why I should have to buy a new phone or tablet to use my headset, Crazy - but typical FB/Oculus. Not happy at all. I knew a phone had to be used, but had no idea it had to be v6 or above. On the website it says you can use your online account, but seems this is not so. Index it is, then.
