AIM-54 Hotfix PSA and Feedback Thread - Guided Discussion
Comstedt86 replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Early Soviet RWRs had no idea they were painted on in TWS by F14 I believe. And even if/when the Phoenix went active and they received a warning it might have been too late. From what I have been told RWRs are nowhere as reliable irl as in DCS. -

In DCS the MK60 is by far the best yes. From what I understand the C47 IRL uses different propellant and should have slightly higher ISP and thrust compared to the A47 along with all the improvements the new electronics upgrade gave it on guidance and other features. However in DCS it's definately the worst performing of all which is a bit strange even given the DCS engine limitations on guidance. It should atleast be on par kinematically to the A47. -
Aim-54 going almost vertical on an STT launch

Same issue with Phoenix A47 / A60? -
IRL improved electronics, improved guidance via link & inertial iirc and a new radar fuze. All in all improvement vs small and low targets. How this translates to DCS? Most likely copy paste 7M.

[NOOB] TWS Auto mode question
Comstedt86 replied to VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
You need to IFF yourself if you are in the RIO seat, else Jester does it but it is not an automated feature. No need to press next launch IIRC unless you specifically want to change the firing order the WCS (computer) selects. You will automatically launch on the next enemy or unknown target. Make sure you have TID cursor selected and not DDD or something else. -

All 4 contacts visible as separate tracks during the whole time? -
Isn't it worse than A47 kinematically as well?

AFAIK AI only fires in STT which would explain RWR warnings. -

If you fired 100 Phoenixes and all missed something must be wrong. How did they "miss"? Defeated through loss of energy, trashed tracks, notched or did your targets get shot down? -
Air Quake? In that case try to get high yourself and launch further away at high unaware targets beyond the "frontline" that are heading into the fray. Had some decent success depending on the dynamics of the fight. But people usually are all over the place and TWS and closer targets is hit and miss.

Missile battery issue at 55nm? You can make 110-120nm shots at 45-50k at orbiting target (no additional closure) granted I tried as Fox 1 if that makes any difference ingame. -
I did some testing after the new drag profile hit. IIRC the 54C is worse of the bunch and in a straight line has worse NEZ than even the 120B up to 15k feet or something if I remember correctly. Once any manouvering is involved the 54 fares even worse.

I believe they found documentation on the 54C regarding onboard INS / Active Command at least. It should also be capable of HOJ afaik.

Try replicating in DCS. -
I agree. Several games implemented both DLSS and FSR. Also, for now, DLSS is arguably superior to FSR, so it would be a mistake to not include it, IMO. Not aerguably, DLSS is pretty much better in everyway, especially after 2.x version. One little issue you need an RTX card to run it and game needs to support it. FSR on the other hand works on just about anything and any game through different methods. (Lossless scaler etc.) FSR 2.0 looks promising as well.

You'll have to rollback a few patches and play singeplayer then because it will not return to previous state. -
Actually animations do as well, eats quite a lot of CPU cycles afaik particularly skeletal ones depending on quality / frames. May not impact a game like DCS very since you wont render 100 moving pilots.

RWS Full-action target selection not working
Comstedt86 replied to dongwhi1213's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Afaik this is not possible in RWS. It can be done in TWS but is sub optimal / not reliable. Best way to get a solid STT is using the DDD directly in P or PD mode. -

C improvements coming soon -
From what is being said on Tomcast in some episosed. Yes it could be done.
-
It was overperforming in a straight line / cold chase.
-
Yes there was some changes. Currently two active threads covering it. One here (patch feedback one) & and in Bugs section.
-
Easiest way is probably to Active pause, jump in the RIO seat, hook the one you want on the TID and press next launch button. You could also set mandatory attack on the ones you want to fire on first via the CAP panel. Can't be done from pilot seat without lua editing afaik.

[RESOLVED] AIM-54 inconsistency with CFD whitepaper
Comstedt86 replied to dundun92's topic in Bugs and Problems
That gets thrown around alot yes. Does that mean it would be worthless as soon as the target does any kind of manouver? 20k is hardly bush altitude though. I don't know if the current 120 performance is realistic in comparisson but I doubt the Amraam (apart from D version) would have longer legs than the Phoenix except possibly sl / down low owing the engine the burn time. Even with all that drag? Perhaps someone more enlightened can shed some light. Either way, the problem isn't necessarily the new drag profile but rather it in conjunction with the outdated guidance. *edit* Yeah both 47s, the Mk60 still enjoys some 15-20% edge over the 120 in a straight line. What's weird is the C47 is worse of the bunch, even though it should be slightly better than the A47. -

Up to 20k firing at cold target 120C5 has higher NEZ than both A47 & C47, haven't tried higher than this yet. Things radically get worse for the Phoenix as soon as any kind of correction is involved, even a slight turn.
