I'm please to announce that CSG-1 will be incorporating a new ATC/GCI/AWACS/JTAC group, Marine Air Control Squadron 2. MACS-2 will be in the capable hands of Eaglestallon who was just brought into the CSG and is our first dedicated Controller. We fly on Sundays at 2000 Eastern and Tuesdays at 2030 Eastern MACS-2 will play an integral role in controlling the area and managing our 7 Squadrons of Fixed and Rotor winged aircraft. If anyone has interest in MACS-2 please contact us through our Discord link in my Signature

Well that is at least encouraging! I really look forward to finally unleashing the full power of a PC on DCS -

Virtual Carrier Strike Group 1 Looking for Dedicated Uh-1H Pilots!
Greekbull replied to TheHuntsman's topic in Multiplayer
UPDATE We've started to get more Huey pilots up flying and taking advantage of the unique environment we provide at CSG-1. Sunday we ran a full amphibious assault mission. Two full squadrons of Harriers from VMA-223 and VMA-231 supporting the beach landings of various Marine Corps Amphibious vehicles along with LCACs bringing Bradley tanks ashore. Hueys from HMLA-167 were dropping troops and supplies at the front lines. We had fully staffed ATC, AWACS, and JTAC support. VFA-127 flew RedAir. Was a great time and a great example of things to come for CSG-1. Approximately 25 pilots in attendance. We are still looking for more UH-1 pilots, if you have interest please drop by our Discord channel linked in my Signature. -

I wonder how far out Vulkan is? I would imagine it's still quite a ways off. I sure do hope it's out sooner than later. With 4K VR coming end of this year or early next with Pimax 8K-X I'm excited to get the most performance possible. -
Do I need 32GB of Memory now?
Greekbull replied to joebloggs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is no doubt on my old system that I saw a noticeable difference when I went from 16 to 32GB of RAM. I think some of it depends obviously on the system you have and how high your running your settings. I have everything maxed out in 4K in DCS and more RAM make a serious difference. Now I'm not sure I needed 64 but I wanted to go all out on this latest build and I plan on going to 4K VR hopefully with Pimax 8K-X. I don't think RAM prices are ever coming down since that increase is due to the Cell Phone market now that they are putting higher performance RAM in phones. I don't see that ever going away... -
While I certainly agree it would be great if Nvidia put a hardware lock on the cards so they could not be used for mining! Mining is killing prices for all of us and I hope they do it. But I'm not sure they will as I'm not sure sales will go down until the Crypto bubble burst(which is hopefully really soon lol). I think cards are selling better than ever right now and I don't think they will do anything to limit it. In fact I think they're going to use it as an opportunity to creep prices up. GTX 1080 hit the market at $599...looks like they are estimating 1180 to come in around $699(which I'll still happily pay) I just hope we can get ahold of them.
-
I'll likely be jumping on this...and them jumping to the 1180Ti as soon as that releases:D It's a never ending quest to run faster, smoother and at higher resolutions lol

Most definitely enjoying frequent updates! Much appreciated!

Ryzen2 may well hit 5GHz on 7nm says GF CTO

Nice find!...gives a bit of an indication. Man that old 4790K that I just recently replaced is still kicking ass. -

Well good to know. Either way it looks like the new Ryzen is a big step forward and can only help us all by pushing more tech our way. -

${1} The Pimax 8K-X will be 200 Deg FOV and native 4K per eye. They've said it will run smooth on the next gen of cards. The Pimax 8K which will be 200 Deg FOV and 1440p upscaled to 4K per eye will run fine on a GTX 1070 and 1080. Already been tested in DCS. So not really 8K that's just the name... -

That might be the case. DCS has always been a GPU arms race. Another reason I'll likely be going to Volta or Turing...not because my current setup needs it but because I'm thinking Pimax 8K-X will. -

Well maybe not every...but the vast majority will with really nothing special to cool them. I'm sure there are exceptions and those will probably be the loudest people reporting things as is normally the case. -

Thank you for the clarifications. So with all that said and using a normal water cooling setup in DCS terms(lol that's all I use my rig for) Are we talking superior performance over a 8700K? Relatively the same? -

Greekbull replied to BitMaster's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well then 4.8 on a $500 custom loop...that's still short of what the 8700K is getting. If you drop the extra $1200 on the chiller then maybe get it up to what the 8700K is doing. Again I'm only saying this in the DCS world where the only thing that matters is a single core speed correct? I'm certainly not an expert on the subject but I also like to have the fastest available speeds. Now as said before Vulkan will likely change all that but how far out is that? I would guess it's still a couple of years away. I'm also not trying to bash Ryzen. The faster they go then the faster Intel goes. Competition can only help us all! -

Skatezilla's results are definitely impressive but still not a practical application for all but a very rare few(an extra $1700 of worth of hardware to cool it). I would still think DCS will run faster on Intel. Mining maybe not but that is a small relatively unimportant segment of the market. As I'm sure you know Bitmaster every 8700K will hit 5Ghz pretty easily. -
I doubt your going to see it ship that quickly. I ordered my base on March 11th and it's supposed to MAYBE ship this week. Their 10 -14 working days of processing aren't quite accurate atm. They are way way backed up with the move to the new facility I believe.

It looks like the best you can possibly get is around 4.3Ghz in the testing that's coming out. Looks like the 8700K is still going to be king in DCS...till the 9700K maybe. -
Diagram for the F18C Hotas setup?
Greekbull replied to sobe's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Yes it's been almost a full year since we've seen anything on it. Hopefully that changes here in the next few weeks. It's definitely very disappointing that it's not out yet. But TM isn't very concerned with Flight Sims these days. The racing market is king to them. -
VKB and Virpil are smaller outfits that will continue to grow and with that order times etc will come down. They both have far superior bases to the Thrustmaster Warthog. I'm going to be using my Virpil T-50 Base with a nice long Sahaj extension and a metal TM Warthog stick(until I get the Hornet and Tomcat sticks). The great news in Virpil's case is they just opened a new large production facility and will soon be able to fill orders quicker. But until then people will need to preorder and wait for the quality just like the MFG Crosswinds.

Pictures of the new throttle with that textured grip look very impressive!

I would love to hear more from VKB on the Tomcat stick and something out of TM on the Hornet stick...plan on grabbing both.

Is there any word on Vulkan? Are we a couple of years off? While that may...and I stress may tip the scales in AMD's favor but the 8700K won't be far behind if at all...They'll also be gaining a ton of power if we take away the CPU bottleneck we currently face in DCS... -
Getting ready to start my own 8700K upgrade build...going to go for a all out powerhouse build that sets me for a few years. Will be running M.2 and 64GB of RAM fot the hopefully a future proof VR setup. Well once I add Pimax 8K-X and Volta when available.
