Hi Acedy, Technically speaking, the free power turbine RPM is not the same as the rotor RPM, since the gearbox converts the very high revolutions of the free power turbine to something that works for the rotor blades, right?

Air-to-Air - how? (Possible campaign spoiler!)
miguez replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I believe what Tango means is to set the cannon to manual targeting. On the Targeting Mode Control Panel, where you switch Ground target on or off, or turn the K-041 on or off, there is a rotary knob. Place it in the MAN position, should be one click clockwise from the AUTO, and the gun will lock on a "straight ahead" mode, not swiveling anymore. The HUD will show the cannon boresight as a green circle. Place your target in that circle (or not, if you are leading the shot due to a turn), and let it loose. -
Wow, awesome reference!

Finally, if you have run out of bullets, if your wingmen is not available/out of ammo, and if you have rockets, you can shoot him down with rockets also. -
Someone else reported in a separate thread that DCS: BS runs faster in their Windows 7 beta than it does in Vista.

Fess up! Who else here is having a hard time?
miguez replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hey aledmb, Ah, cool, I had forgotten about those! Best regards, -
Hi press, What I meant is how often the information on the HUD is refreshed, like altitude and airspeed, velocity vector, etc. You can see in this video that it is quite slow, like some HUDs I have seen before.
-
Ah, that makes sense rgd HUD upgrade. And awesome on the video, once again!

Hi aledmb, What is the winter demo? Where can we see it? Thanks, -
Hi GGTharos, What in particular did you want us to look for? One thing I did notice is that my flying is not so bad :), What I mean is the heading control. When changing collective and direction, I can't be super smooth with the heading, she ends up wondering a bit away from where I'd like her to be. The helicopter in the video does the same exact thing, which I believe means we should be thanking the flight model guys at ED! Best regards, and awesome video, thanks!

I am not sure, but given my experience with airplane HUDs I'd say that's would be a feasible refresh rate. If that's true, then we're spoiled in the game :). The HUDs I have flown had varying refresh rates, from very slow, like the Ka-50 in this video, to very fast, around 15-20 fps.

To add to this discussion: English manual page 3-36: MENU/CONTROL/K-041 Sub-mode "The K-041 page is used to check the status of the K-041 navigation and targeting system. When in “WORK” MODE, a countdown timer in seconds is displayed next to the TIME OUT field. This indicates the time until the next INS navigation fix from GNSS. Current aircraft coordinates; heading, track angle, and speed are also displayed here." Now maybe I am reading this wrong, but the INS should be the nertial Navigation System. From what I understand then, the INS gets a position fix from the GPS (GNSS), right?

That's correct, someone mentioned in another thread that this is not modeled yet, and perhaps will be part of a future update.

Hello GGTharos, What about EvilBivol's statement, which contradicts yours?

Hi r-unit, I have been playing around with maneuvers too, seeing what works and doesn't. Something more out of an airshow than anything else is a maneuver I call the Back Tumble. I am on a hover at about 200 meters above the ground. I simultaneously add collective (not all of it, as you'll most likely get a blade collision) and pull back on the cyclic almost full deflection. The helicopter will do an almost half tumble (ending on it's back, facing the opposite way) without any loss of altitude. From there I keep the same input and lower the collective, resulting in what you could see as the second half of a loop, or in other words, going from the upside down position to right side up by pulling back on the cyclic. I can do it in about 150 meters of altitude. It is not super easy to pull off, and your heading, when done, might be 20 or 30º off from the original, as by the end of the recovery you have little collective, and therefore not a lot of yaw control to maintain the desired heading, but it is a lot of fun.

Hi Vik, I am on, tentatively, for 1800 Eastern Time. I understand you'll be hosting the MP session. What about the TeamSpeak channel?
-
Hi sparrows, To add to Murphy's answer, there are green indicator lights for both the dust protection and engine anti-ice systems. They are on the Right Overhead Panel. Always make sure they come on when turning on the system. Best regards,

After Action Reports for anyone who's interested...
miguez replied to Pizzicato's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Hey Pizzicato, Fantastic series, very immersive! I feel for Grigory already... -
I'd be interested too, I'm in the Eastern timezone. Who's setting this up?
-
Hi Weta, The English manual, page 2-62, says the PVI button used for realignment is a "No Function" button, so I am not sure this is possible?
-
Hi Ramstein, Vortex's question will help us help you, but yes, it is blades intersecting. I have had it happen to me with speeds of 200 or 220 km/h, it really depends on what you are asking the helicopter to do, even if it is smooth, you can smoothly move the blades so that they collide. One of the things I am coming to realize is that I really don't need to go that fast, especially in combat. Going a little slower also gives you more time to assess the situation and shoot at the enemy. Of course some situations still warrant max speed, but for the majority of the time, there's no need to go too fast. Best regards,

Hi Boberro, Thanks for the tip, I'll try it. The interesting thing is that other effect, like explosions and the smoke associated with that, cause no fps hit on my setup. Thanks,
-
Man, I can't believe I didn't find that. Thanks Shrubbo! It works. I still get smoke from the weapons, but I tried effects = 1 and effects = 0, and it doesn't turn that off. I wonder if that's possible.

I'll preface by saying that I understand I am running DCS: BS on a laptop, and that it has its limitations. That being said, I have great frame rates for most of the time, it only drops below 25 over large cities, which is understandable, or when dust is animating outside the helicopter, when on a really low hover. The second part bugs me because I can be in an environment where I am getting 40 fps, and as soon as the dust starts to animate, it will drop to around 4 or 5 fps. The smoke trail from the ATGMs does the same thing. As soon as the dust/smoke disappears from view, the fps jump back up to where they were. So my question is: Is there a way to disable the smoke/dust animations? For the curious, I have a 512MB GeForce 8600M GS on an HP dv9000. Thanks,

I think what Cool Hand meant is that Easter Eggs are surprises the developers add in to poke a little fun and/or surprise to users. It could be an out-of-place, unexpected object, for example. To me, pilots moving their heads is absolutely awesome, but more a feature than an easter egg.
