The most I have felt sick is using a driving game before I upgraded my computer. I generally only feel sick in helo's and more occasionally planes when I crash ( quite a regular occurence in the gazelle to start with ). I found that if I close my eyes before I hit the ground I wouldn't feel so sick! I think it helps with reducing the disconnect between eye and the radical movement your brain is seeing and is really not happy with trying to process this visual assault. Works for me anyway and is far more realistic... If I was really going to crash into the ground, I'd close my eyes as well!!!

How much HMD "resolution improvement" do the Aircraft have?
Ratcatcher replied to MacThai_75's topic in Virtual Reality
Wow, that sounds a great setup. Please share some pics of it when it arrives! One thing I would add about cockpits. Before I got my CV1 I had the Hawk module and was somewhat underwhelmed with the quality of the cockpit ( even after they had improved it in a recent patch ) when compered to say the A10 or Sabre, however in VR it looks really pretty good. So you can't always directly relate what a cockpit in 2d will look like in VR. Also, I think you are doing in retirement pretty much what I hope to in a few years  -
How much HMD "resolution improvement" do the Aircraft have?
Ratcatcher replied to MacThai_75's topic in Virtual Reality
Having re read your post I think I understand what your getting at. So some thoughts on your questions...I dont run my monitor at 4k and right now I am only flying using the OR CV1. The display is no where near 4K at the moment, but as you say, in the future the displays will get progressivley better. ( Can't wait ). I would just say that at the moment some cockpits look better than others in VR. Some instruments will appear clearer than others ( which also depends on what pixel density level you set ). So it is a little dificult to provide a comprehensive evaluation of each product and how it will perform with a future generation VR product, all I can say is that having flown in VR I couldnt go back to a 2d monitor and can not wait for the future iterations of VR, as it stands at the moment with all its faults and lack of clarity it is ( IMHO ) the greatest advance in simming since the joystick! :joystick: -
Excellent, many thanks for the steer!

I was thinking about getting back into flying the A10, but it would appear there isn't a solution for the HUD scaling at present, if you fly in VR?

I would just like to echo those sentiments! Last night I installed the Mistral Carrier Mod and flew a couple of approaches in a Gazelle. I came in along side an almost full deck and aimmed for a free slot, once abeam of it I slowly shuffled my way in as the carrier cruised along. It felt so natural looking down to my right as the deck came up! Bloody amazing feeling! ( Flying in VR with OR ) My thanks and thoughts also go to Lilkiki who did such an outstanding job to give us this real gem.

Pfft... Well that’s certainly not what I'd call a descent model... I mean where's the glue stained fingerprint on the cockpit glass or the decal that’s not quite straight and has a large tear down it, or the wonky front under carriage that doesn’t quite line up right as you had accidentally lent on the model while looking for the tweezers...:rotflmao: Sorry couldn’t resist, as it brought back memories of all my abject failures when it came to modelling. Stunning work, that is a thing of beauty! Well done that man!!!

**EDIT** Worked it out, you do just make a folder called "tech" under Mods. Wow! Looks great in VR! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK back from my hols... forgive the dumb question but how do you install the mod...its says drop it in "DCS World/Mods/tech" I dont have a tech folder, am I meant to create one or drop it into terrains???

Hey Hawkeye, that looks brilliant! Thanks to you and the modders working on the Mistral. Absolutely fantastic stuff! ( Quite looking forward to coming back from my hols now...shhhh don't tell the wife!!! )

I would sooooo love an AH64 in DCS, especially if it was made by someone who really knew their helo's... such as Polychop. :music_whistling: Thanks for this one though, I will have to give it a go.

Cool video, thanks for sharing. Looking good!

Preffered Radio/Nav Input Device?
Ratcatcher replied to Ratcatcher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thank you so much! That is exactly what I was looking for. I did have visions of a soldering gun and sparks flying everywhere at one point so this comes as a great relief. Also thanks to Neil for your idea about pre-programing the channels. Cheers to all for your help! -
Preffered Radio/Nav Input Device?
Ratcatcher replied to Ratcatcher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks! Though the words "link up some rotary encoders" and then "easy" doesn't sound like two sets of words that I might necessarily put together. :helpsmilie: I will certainly give this a go, so thanks again, much appreciated. -
Preffered Radio/Nav Input Device?
Ratcatcher replied to Ratcatcher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the suggestion. I have used voice attack before. So will try to add some commands for the radios and nav aids to the profile I have. I was hoping to find an actual input device that "liked" inputting numbers like a rotary dial type of input. But the only ones I have found are the Saitek instrument panels. Which look good but are expensive and I would be paying a lot for something I'm hardly using all of the functions it has ( display panels ) -
Preffered Radio/Nav Input Device?
Ratcatcher replied to Ratcatcher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Apparently not... -
Hey all, I've recently been flying in VR ( Rift CV1 ) and am having a hard time trying to input the radio's/ADF's, etc in the cockpit of the gazelle ( though I suspect it would be just as hard on any aircraft.) I find the mouse clicking to select the numbers slow and frustrating. ( And hard to access in the Gazelle, being hidden behind the collective ). Could anyone recommend an input method/device they use which would work well in VR? Thanks!

Just a quick aside about running things optimally... Is it better to have DCS on a completely separate drive, on the same drive as windows or with other games on a drive separate to the OS? Thanks!

Understanding Frame rates and ATW (Asynch Time Warp)
Ratcatcher replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Many thanks for taking the time to explain this. Very useful. I have a new PC on order and hope to see more constantly higher FPS. As is though my experiences are mostly positive, VR is an amazing addition to the flight sim genre and I look forward to the future! -
It shouldn't be that. Are you looking directly at the panel or glancing at it? As I have found that the lenses certainly have a "sweet spot" which means I have to look pretty much straight ahead to get a clear view through them. If I look through the lower part of the lens it becomes distorted. There is also probably a chance that some panels look better than others. I have noticed some aircraft panels are clearer than others and even some parts of the same panel are clearer than other parts ( dials etc ).

Ah,OK. Thanks will try and have a play with it. Still as is, it makes it much easier to use the in cockpit controls.

@MacThai Glad to help. If anything doesn't make sense just let us know and I will do my best to try and explain things a bit clearer ( I'm certainly no expert though so Purgh or persons more in the know could hopefully be more helpful! )

@Purg, Having set up my controls as per how you describe, everything is working great except the forward scroll and backward scroll buttons. They work but only incrementally ( i.e I have to keep clicking to increase the value rather than just hold the button down ) Is there a way of getting the value to increase without having to keep clciking? BTW Thanks very much for your suggestion to use this function, it works a treat!

I'm afriad I can't really help with the VA profile side of things ( as Im not using this as yet ) I have just got the "center mouse" function to allow me to use the mouse better. Here is what I did to get this part set up: Assign a joystick to VA: 1: Download the latetst VA software. 2: Click on the "Spanner" icon. 3: Under the "General" tab click on the box "Joystick Options". 4: If no joysticks are listed - click the + icon next to the picture of a joystick, this will give you an drop down list of available devices. 5: Select the device you want to use ( i.e Throttle - HOTAS Warthog ), click "OK". 6: Click OK at the bottom of the page and "OK" again to close out the options page. Then create or import a profile: 1: With VA started click on the + button at the top ( next to the icon of the pen and pad ) 2: Click on either "Create new profile" or "import profile" if you have one. ( I'm using a A-10C profile I donwloaded some time ago. 3: If its a new profile - Name it "DCS Profile" or some such description. 4: Click on "New Command" 5: Clear the "When I say" check box and click in "When I press button" 6: Then simply click the joystick button you want to assign to center your view ( in my case my hog throttles mic button). 7: It should change from "Not Set" to Joystick 1 : Button 2 8: If it doesnt accept it hit the circular arrow button to the right of joystick. 9: Click OK 10: Below the "This command is executed : When I press a button" section is the "When this command executes, do the following sequence:" 11: Click on the "Mouse" box. 12: Click on "move" 13: Under the "Mouse movement relates to:" Highlight " Move to specific location" and find in the drop down "Cursor Screen Centre" 14: Click "OK" And that should be it! Everytime you clcik the mic button ( or whatever button you select ) the cursor will recenter itself to the center of your screen. You then just need to select the joystick buttons to assign the mouse commands ( Left click, right click, etc ) as mentioned in Purg's post. ( P.S If the cursor disappears just hit one of your "mouse" buttons to get it back on screen, then hit the recenter button ) Hope that makes sense and helps!

Hi, Would you mind describing how you set this up in VA? I have it but havent used it in ages, I've just tried to find this in settings but have failed miserably :( **EDIT** Cancel cancel, I worked it out! Huhzza!
