Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 8

Pre-Post Edit:Saw your bit on "alternating between TWS and HI" after typing a bunch of stuff on PRF....Not in a 'try again' mood, so sorry in advance...:D Pre-Post Edit II: Check radar elevation at a given range, as well, make sure you have your TDC at a certain range and altitude you'd like to detect stuff at (i.e. don't ignore all that stuff or something). Usually I do 80nmi DISPLAY range with 60nmi TDC/hi prf/alternating between low alt and high alt scan (along with dropping cursor down to 30-45nmi on occasion). Change your Pulse Repetition Frequency, or PRF, to high (right shift I to change). You'll detect fighter sized targets (all fighters are 5m2 in DCS, regardless of payload or angle, AFAIK) at about 60-70nmi. Setting radar *display* range (10-20-40-80-160) does not affect the radar's range itself...It will adjust your TDC and the radar elevation is tied to that. PRF ranges are basically as follows for fighter targets: Interleaved - 40nmi head-on, 20 tail on (IIRC? i dont use Int, ever!). High - 60ish nmi head-on, 10 tail on. Medium - 25-30ish head on, 25 tail on. Somewhat difficult to judge detection/acquisition ranges for beaming targets because of notching and all that... Also, note that current PRF is ONLY displayed in RWS mode, when using TWS you've just gotta remember what your PRF setting was - After practicing it is MUCH easier than it sounds (ok ok i have a few thousand hours in the DCS Eagle, WHATEVER! :smilewink:) On TEWS, if they have their radar on, you'll get the beams from that radar LONG before they detect you, and typically long before you detect them - Things like MiG-21 and F-5 are exceptions to the rule because their radar isn't very powerful. In my experience the -21 sees out to 16nmi and you get a nail at about 10nmi. Haven't tested that though so take it with a huge grain of salt (or a pile of it: https://shareitfitness.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/large-salt-pile1.jpg) EDIT: Oh FFS sniped by redcore - Also, ten (fake) bucks says this post makes zero sense whatsoever anyways.

Oh well, all this anti-trainer stuff is what happens when you make a lot of low performance trainers... T-38C would've been great! Still would be, I guess, though F-5F is somewhat more logical from BST...Meh, I want my fancy gadgets that you'd get in the T-38C. Also its a Raptor killer...:megalol: Whatever, I'll take an F-15D instead...At least there's a model floating around for that...Or there was about 3 years ago, IIRC. On another note: +1 - Would love some fictional T-38-like skins.

Ran out of gas and options, darn near went off the edge! I'm learning how to *slowly* move the throttle. "Kill, Tiger, left turn 2,000ft! Oh that's a flat spin...RIP!"

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. I don't know if I should laugh, cry, punch my screen, or all of the above? :D Edit: What? I can't have an extremely long "lol" without spaces? :(

I had the same issue...Until I pulled out the 1.5.3 TrackIR files! :)

Thought it was a Lima seeker, no?

+1(,000,000,000)

^+1 to all of that.

:megalol:  aaaaaaaand deleted, too easy to misinterpret! :P

IRL or in-game? In-game, it doesn't work that way - The missile goes after chaff and its *done*, it shoots off to nowhere and times-out or hits the deck. IRL there are other problems with low aspect targets - At least with older missiles... ;)
-
So you get killed once and its a bug? :megalol:

^I'll BFM you for that 120B DLZ! :D

Not sure I agree, but I'll let BST/ED decide.

So you pulled 14g for a fraction of a second and did 9+ sustained for about 3 seconds. That seems realistic enough. IRL, F-15 pulled 12g (in a conversion on a MiG-25, dogfight, so probably sustained for a few seconds) in combat and was *fine*, maybe some G-hours came off the jet, but the jet was fine and AFAIK continued to fly combat sorties. Not really. Flankers pulled 40+ G without consequences. Eagles can pull 13-18 if you act like a complete "delta alpha", you need LOADS of rudder at high G and transonic speeds to do that. That's not even mentioning the configuration requirements of the jet to do that. Its also been hinted to by "certain people" that you might not even have the hydraulic pressure to pull this 12G stuff in some/most regimes. In the Flanker, I could hit the wheel brake (disable AOA limits) or enable direct control and overload the jet...Overloading in that bird gave me this ridiculous capability to out-rate the bandit and snap/Archer his 'cans. The wheel brake thing is/was fairly realistic besides the fact that it was easy to abuse (13g in a loaded Flanker...*facepalm*) Bottom line, overload in a Flanker was extremely useful and VERY EASY to abuse. Overload in an Eagle is NOT useful and very HARD to abuse, if its even possible. ^Sustained 12g in the worst region for it.

Ditch the "shadows.lua" in config/effects

These pictures are really Bugging me, man. -
That pod, the shape, the drag..nope, not worth it! :P How about a fake/generic Flanker that gives you guys all the capabilities you want but doesn't simulate any specific variant? Pick *whatever* Flanker cockpit that could support those capabilities, even keep the current FM for all I care, and you're done - Fun, competitive Flanker and its somewhat realistic. Or in other words, its probably as realistic as we'll get for a long time.
-
Wanted to do some Flanker stuff in the testing round! :) I'll definitely go Blue in the actual Round!
-
Can't pick a new team in the test round? :(
-
TBF I asked if you wanted to learn the Flanker.......... :megalol:
